- louiebaur, on 07/25/2008, -2/+29Rob Dyrdek is onto something here for sure. It sucks getting kicked out of skate spots and having skate stoppers put up and having to deal with security guards. We have all these skateparks around southern california that suck and don't represent the things skateboarders like to skate whether its transition or street stuff. Rob is an ambitious guy and his first skate plaza came out pretty sick! I hope he is able to get more made in the LA area which is the most skated are in the world probably.
- blogosphear, on 07/25/2008, -0/+23BOBBY LITE GONNA DO YOU RIGHT
- chomp, on 07/25/2008, -2/+14its a cool show and all but i knew him as that gnarly young DC kid that rips. he speaks the truth. im too old to break into street spots but i hope my kids will never have too.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+10That is cool that Rob is working towards building street plaza's that are like regular street spots so kids don't have to trespass or go to their local crappy unskateable skatepark.
- lostsymphonies1, on 07/25/2008, -0/+8I highly doubt MTV's lawyers let him trespass in that abandoned water park. I'm sure he had to get permission from the owners of the property to do all of that or MTV would have gotten sued up the ass when it aired
- lesleye, on 07/25/2008, -1/+9This is a great and noble thing Rob's doing. Having somewhere like these plaza's to go will make a huge difference to city kids.
- Dr00pieS, on 07/25/2008, -0/+722's! Rims as big as my arms!
- magneteye, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7Error establishing a database connection
RAD! - sayoshinn, on 07/25/2008, -1/+7Lights. Camera. Action. Mini horse its holllyywoooood. Rob is about as chill as a guy can get. This is an awesome and way overdue.
Its so refreshing to see someone just simply give back to the community, especially the one that put him where he is and not try to make a business out of it. - louiebaur, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6http://duggmirror.com/extreme_sports/Rob_Dyrdek_I_ ...
- palmer, on 07/25/2008, -2/+7"Plaza's"?
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6Rob is doing some amazing work with the skate plaza's and trying to keep kids off the streets and into authorized skateboarding areas
- mcool119, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6Now that would be cool. If they could have basically a plaza full of "urban" skate features, and have actual stores there and stuff, basically like a small skate town... that would be sick.
- Seanathan, on 07/25/2008, -2/+6Don't mind if I do.
- Trevor, on 07/25/2008, -0/+4skateboardingmagazine.com says: "I just want to build a real webserver, that won't crash when dugg!"
When asked about their webserver being up, skateboardingmagazine.com replies No- it ’s not! “Everyone that doesn’t know anything about browsing the web is always like, `Isn’t that half the allure?’ No! We’re not doing it to read the article! - djgargamel, on 07/25/2008, -3/+7Skateboarding is not a crime.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5Sounds like a good idea. Skaters get a place to skate legally and business owners get to stop bitching about punk kid skateboarders.
- badwithcomputer, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3yeah, you're probably right. i kinda realized that after i posted this, but i think just the way it was shot encourages your average non-mtv affiliated skater kid to check out closed off private property for the really cool spots.
- obsolite, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3He's tired of seeing kids getting caught riding dirty.
- mictron3030, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3I upvoted you because I love skateboarding but I dislike most skateboarders.
- palmer, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4Plaza's?
- supremebeing18, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Finding new skate spots is part of the fun in skateboarding, no matter what you get sick of skating the same thing day after day. At least with wood skateparks you can change it up and build new *****, but with the concrete stuff he is proposing it is extremely difficult to alter a park once it's been created. This stuff would be nice for awhile, but I do not want to be confined to skating the same thing everyday.
- bruthaman, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Hmmm, it's gonna take a lot of Sacred G to get that done... He might even need some help from Master J!
- jerbaker, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3Ok, it's "plazas" not "plaza's". An apostrophe is never used to make a word plural. Second, you need a comma to set off a quote. It should be: When asked about trespassing to skate certain spots, Rob replies, "No- it ’s not!" Third, what's up with that random quotemark? It never closes. It should've been before the word "No" and ended at the end of the paragraph.
All in all, that's some pretty crazy writing. I'll get buried for being a grammar Nazi, but those are some fairly bad errors. - havocjaw, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3That's because the "Plaza" owns!!!...... something
- HayString, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3^^^Not if they signed a waiver.
- rileyhallwood, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4Horrible misquote in the description. It really reads "`Isn’t that half the allure?’ No! We’re not doing it because it’s fun; we’re doing it because there’s no legal place to do what we do"
makes it seem like skateboarders are breaking in for fun. - theotheragentm, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3I'm sure Monster would've been none too happy either to have their truck run down a fence so they could skate.
- tecpatl, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Aww, come on. Let the skateboarder's put apostrophe's where they want.
- green1152, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Here's a good example of what he's doing:
DC Skate Plaza
http://www.skateplaza.com/plaza_main.asp - algaeturd, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3The problem with most skateparks is that they're designed and built by bureaucracy and people who have never skated or are out of touch with modern skating. There are some good ones; Rob's park in Kettering is nice but there's no transition, barely any banks...it's a ledge, steps and rail place. If you're hot into ledges, rails and steps, you can sit there and eat your lunch.
- amanilaenvelope, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Mirror ?
- kawaiirobo, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Despite the numerous grammatical errors and misspellings, I have to agree with this article. I used to skate constantly, and despite what people think, I would only jump a fence or avoid security because all the good spots were hidden, not because of some irrational thrill from trespassing. In particular I remember a great spot that was behind a post office, you could sneak through the truck gate during business hours, and skate these two banks that bordered the dip for unloading mail trucks. I hated when security would run us off, not because we were busted, but because it was so long till we could hit that spot again. The truth is, skateboarding for this generation has been and still is bread in the streets of cities and suburbs, not in parks, and kids need urban environments to truly hone their skills.
- Branbot, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I'm not a skater personally but I like Dyrdek, he's very open minded and philosophical individual. This just proves how much those kind of character attributes can change the world with a little push.
- louiebaur, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2http://duggmirror.com/extreme_sports/Rob_Dyrdek_I_ ...
- xilo32, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Rob has to be one the THE coolest dudes on this planet, EVER. What everyone loves him for is that he does things that are for the community AND his fans.
Do work son! - thaitan, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Hopefully we could get a replication of Embarcadero and Love park. I've always wanted to skate those spots.
- bigwillystyle, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2can someone post a mirror it keeps saying error cant connect to database
- mictron3030, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Skatepark designers tend to build things they see in dreams, or imagine skateboarders enjoying. Colorado has the most skateparks per capita, yet all are built by what seem to be amateurs who've never skated.
- TheLastEskimo, on 07/26/2008, -1/+3that's why they're putting one of these skate plazas in each of the 400 public parks. that's a different skate spot everyday for over a year.
- badwithcomputer, on 07/25/2008, -4/+6umm trespassing isn't part of the fun, rob? what about this:
http://www.shredordie.com/videos/501b785485 - mrzeero, on 07/25/2008, -2/+4I wonder how many times a day you hear the word "sketchy" there?
- pixelsoup, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I wonder. Wouldn't permission from the owners hold the owners responsible when one of them fell 50' to their death trying to do a tail slide on a 3' half pipe? Nice.
- urbandistrict, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3'I a'gre'e c'om'pl'e't'e'ly. le't i't' be' kno'wn.
- zizzo, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3Maybe he should first focus on building a real server.
- kappuru, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Yeah, the skate plaza in kettering looks like, well, a regular plaza. It's designed not to be a concrete eyesore like other big concrete parks. No transitions, but seeing as how it's for street it doesn't need them. I'd like to visit there someday, I still remember getting chased off of Navy Memorial in DC by secret service...
- ienjoyrolling, on 07/25/2008, -3/+5Luckily i live in kettering ohio and skate his first plaza all the time.
I also have seen him and the golf course i work at, and have played with his dad there. - Chirp08, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I won't watch 2 seconds of MTV's these days, now that I'm well beyond middle school, but I caught Rob & Big the other day and found myself watching a marathon of it for a whole afternoon, that show is flat out entertaining. Too bad there are 30 minutes of commercials every 10 seconds.
- joef3, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I agree. That's the one of the worst written articles I've ever seen.
