- Avaseal, on 11/10/2008, -1/+17Hey the website's still up.. in all its 1997 style cult-website glory:
http://www.heavensgate.com/ - ghidorahnotweak, on 11/09/2008, -1/+14Makes me want a pair of purple sneaks though.
- DaviDTC, on 11/10/2008, -2/+15They probably discontinued them cause they are ***** ugly.
- unhg, on 11/10/2008, -4/+14Real reason: It's ugly.
- algaeturd, on 11/10/2008, -0/+9Nike is well known for stirring their own rumors to make their shoes worth more money. It probably was referred to as 'Heaven's Gate' by the designers. They can't call shoes certain names based on particular trademarks but they get the nickname going that eventually is the adopted name for collectors.
The Heineken dunk is just one example...obviously inspired by the Heineken logos and look but they can't call it that officially so it's just 'loden green/white/true red dunk' or something. Lots of them out there like that...so the designers get inspired, make the shoe, the name gets circulated but not advertised and the rest is history. - Lochie, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8Probably Turtle from Entourage, too.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5"I heard that Wildberry Pop-Tarts were discontinued because they reminded people of 9/11. "
That quote just made my day better - marshallpeck, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Shut the ***** up!
- TVarmy, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4They're worth it. But they come with an important disclaimer...
http://kareemabduljabbar.ytmnd.com/ - IvesMozart, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5$10 to make in China.
- ZeeZee2k, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4It's the i am rich of sneakers.
- MuffinFlavored, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4Nike SB!
- doublefelix, on 11/09/2008, -1/+5The color purple does not make you want to drink the kool-aid.
- smaster, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Grow the hell up!
- DeathJux, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Gawker media is taking over the front page.
- dragon76, on 11/10/2008, -1/+4Because, apparently, Nike's Chinese factory workers must be paid more than Reebok's Chinese factory workers. These companies that have zero differentiation from Wal-mart brand outside of marketing make me nauseous.
- ricoboy24, on 11/10/2008, -2/+5They're not idiots, they're collectors.
I can get purple dunks or SB's for less than 100 bucks. screw those. Might as well buy yourself a used car with 3000 bucks and drive it bearfoot. - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2They are all laughing on saturn now and were stuck here. with silly expensive high tops...
- spepin, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2They should be plastered with the leader's mug all over them.

Or at least, for that price, be the shoes that they all wore. - whatthefu, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Maybe it has something to do with this (from Wikipedia): The suicide was accomplished by ingestion of phenobarbital mixed with vodka, along with plastic bags secured around their heads to induce asphyxiation. They were found lying neatly in their own bunk beds, with their faces and torsos covered by a square, purple cloth. Each member carried a five dollar bill and three quarters in their pockets. All 39 were dressed in identical black shirts and sweat pants, brand new black-and-white Nike athletic shoes, and armband patches reading "Heaven's Gate Away Team."
- patpl22391, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2They should get the car and drive it off a cliff.
- ileftfark, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2They look a lot like my sweet Karl Malone LA Gear shoes.
***** you guys, I was in the 5th grade! - Mujokan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2"Rumors" from the guy who is trying to sell them on eBay, I bet. They don't look that much like them. Lower, different toe, different sole, different color.

- ajmccoll, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2The Baltimore Ravens remind me of the mass suicide, get rid of them!
- donkeyshow, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Does the $3000 include intergalactic transport costs?
If so, count me in. - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1lol, who was the fool who put that together then made the decision to can it?
- btnheazy03, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1At this price, this shoe better do my ***** laundry and taxes, and cure cancer, AND aids
- iLoveGoogle, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1i remember heavens gate like it was only yesterday...

Drink 'em in. Wait, was I unwittingly in some cult? Doesn't matter, I had *Catapult Technology* - south409, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Unless the cultists had giant white ticks on them, i don't see the similarity. Purple and black?
- jerrycan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Well it does now!
- r250r, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1 I offered $1.09, along with the following "contract text":
My offer is indicative of my opinion of your honesty in this listing.
Their response: Oh really? I guess you're a newbie to shoes. You obviously have no idea who I am and the type of stuff I have for sale.
Of course, they turned my offer down. - Hermiesan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1I offered $17
- beloitpiper, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2Buried for grossly misleading title and dumb as Hell article.
- toecutter169, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1So...no one's surprised at the existence of a blog devoted to Nike Skateboarding?
- hardcrocodile, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1I don't get it. This seems like a perfect marketing opportunity.
Heaven's Skate, anyone? - cicerojnr, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1I loved the section marked "Our Position Against Suicide."
Oh, the ironic brilliance of it all. And who the hell is still running this site?? - bjs3171, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1you can't make a shoe for 10 dollars, no matter where it's made. it probably cost $40 or $50. That completely justifies the $3000 price tag.
- funkytaco, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Some people leave their houses to follow hobbies such as skateboarding. I know these healthy excercises are an antiquated concept, but some people are just not as educated as you and I.
- Groovydoo, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1The next bubble, skate shoes, investors beware.
- dunkid, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1more discount nike dunks i recommend you this website http://www.dunkid.com
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1its kinda like barney getting cut off from the air, but barney didnt get get off because of the color of his skin, it was because he was gay.
- hardcrocodile, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1The Telah Foundation. Sort of interesting:
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread113809/p ... - funkytaco, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1The Heaven's Gate website is the first website I knew to be slashdotted. It must've been run on a i286.
That's also about the the first time I made my first webpage! - chickenloco, on 11/10/2008, -6/+6Has anyone else not even ever heard of Heavens Gate Mass Suicide?
- KrayzieKyd, on 11/10/2008, -1/+1Heaven's Gate didn't drink kool-aid. That was Jonestown. Oh yeah!
