- elliotys, on 06/18/2009, -3/+35Cool fish, but just took an alpha out of the gene pool : (
- chrisinsocalif, on 06/18/2009, -1/+25Man Lands 575-Pound Salmon Shark? I didn't know they could fly.......yeah i know lame joke.
- Langford, on 06/18/2009, -3/+13Kinda sad that such an impressive critter isn't living any more.
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -0/+8Looks like 573 lbs MAX to me.
- doitchinkstyle, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5SALMON SHARK read the ***** article
- janinekahn, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5Ahahaha. Spot on!
- bromac, on 06/19/2009, -1/+6I love how you PETA folk will look down on hunters and eating meat, in order to protect a shark...
A carnivorous hunting animal. So it's OK for sharks to eat meat and feel no remorse after a kill, but we become immoral when we do it?
Oh, and the amount of disrespect you've shown towards black people and their struggle by comparing it to a damn FISH is pretty extreme. Killing a person out of pure hate so far away from hunting prey for food that it's offensive to imply that they morally related. - alpha94, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5That's because it's a shark......
- HamSandwich, on 06/19/2009, -1/+5KILL IT WITH FIRE! ...and charcoal... and then drizzle some lemon juice on it...
- chaiwalla, on 06/19/2009, -0/+3For anyone who thinks this is cool, you should see the film Sharkwater. We have killed 95% of the world's sharks. They are the lions of the ocean. They are older than the dinosaurs. This is a stupid thing to celebrate.
- MDawg957, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3This is a moron, not a competent person.
- Sangreal2007, on 06/19/2009, -0/+3...and you will be dugg down again for referring to it.
- IgorUnchained, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2This uhh... thing youre talking about.
It had the body of a shark, and the arms and face of a man?
Thats the chap.
Holy jumping jackfish!
Mr Gerbik - ZenMojo, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2Om nom nom...?
- modifiedbears, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2Doesn't really sound impressive.
- diggadigga, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2This reminds me of when I caught a really big fish in Zelda OOT. It was bigger than the biggest one reported on this Zelda strategy guide I used.
- KingGorilla, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2GET TO THA CHOMPA
- calypsoschnitzl, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3not as cool as that half man - half shark/alligator
- FlyingCaveman, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2I used to think it was scary when you'd accidentally catch a 10 lb dogfish. Those things are viscous, all teeth and spiny tail.
- VisualRhetoric, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2That's funny because from where I sit it looks like a reading comprehension problem.
I'd hate to see if the article was about a "sperm whale"... - smashblu, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3To me it look like a shark to me. All you gotta do is look down in the water. Everybody who seen the shark say "yeah!"
- Trekd, on 06/19/2009, -1/+2Much as we both love a good salmon steak/fillet, unfortunatedly, and regrettably you had to leave us Mr Shark - RIP, hopefully they got
plenty of fish for you to chase in Shark Heaven. - booyahbitch, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1I really don't know what a salmon shark is, nor have I ever even heard of one before...is it some x-men version of a shark?!?
- pe5t1lence, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1It's ok, I came here to post the same thing...
And now for my next joke:
Take my wife... please. - inferno10, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1If that man auctions that fish at Tsukiji Fish Market, he'll be RICH!!!
- Sheepsterbaby, on 06/18/2009, -4/+5But will it blend?
- mybad4990, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1He ate too much cocaine.
- tensaibaka, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Are there any marine species in Alaska that AREN'T huge?
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -1/+2Shut the ***** up you self righteous prick.
- cygnus2112, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2In Soviet Russia, Salmon Shark sees you?
- mrogi, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Is shark meat tasty enough to justify taking an alpha male out of the gene pool?
- scarwars, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1A salmon shark?!
- Rulex, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1I expected to see Sarah Palin there...
- Spotacus, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Did anyone else miss "shark" in the title when they opened it? That picture made me go WTF, that can't be a salmon.
- phrakshun, on 06/18/2009, -2/+3Fishing, Digg? Really?
- darthsand, on 06/18/2009, -3/+4I would love to eat that on some rice
- ZiggityZhang, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1I'm pretty sure if it grew to be that large it would have already um.. mated.. many times.
- vdopower, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1this is disgusting. all pigs who support this cruelty will get whats coming to them.
- Leezus, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Sneaky sneaky.
- Turtle1286, on 06/22/2009, -0/+0This article is definitely bull. Look at the date on the article then go here to http://www.orioncharters.com/sharks.htm and look at the date and notice the pic
- bromac, on 06/18/2009, -3/+3I used to see the sharks brought up onto the docks in Seward, Alaska, and they are monsters.
Usually only one or two charter outfits in a port are actually equipped to fish for them. Basically, they strap you and your gear into a chair. When the shark hits, you hold on best you can...and the captain guns the boat. You then drag the shark until it's tired enough for you to crank in dead weight.
Basically, yes, it's a brute force battle. There's no other way. - dramaqueenmama, on 06/18/2009, -0/+0Damn....and me without my lemon and butter, bit of garlic. Tartar sauce on the side?
- YourNameHere1, on 06/19/2009, -0/+0I like how I got dugg down for mentioning that shark is similar to swordfish in taste and preparation. I've been a cook in restaurants since 1994, and have been a surfer since 1987. I've spent plenty of time eating fresh seafood on both the east and west coast and have worked in a few seafood restaurants at the beach where shark was on the menu.....
Sharks are cruelly killed in certain places, and shark finning can be especially cruel. I rarely eat sharks as a karma thing so they don't eat me when I'm out surfing. And I'm going to limit the amount of Yellowfin tuna I eat now because of the serious danger of extinction that they're in due to overfishing.
As tasty as shark, swordfish, marlin, and ahi tuna are I can always eat something else that's not being endangered by human ignorance..... or at least only eat it once or twice a year. - inactive, on 06/19/2009, -4/+4I made the same sort of comment but people dugg me down :(
- zjbird, on 06/19/2009, -1/+1I'm sure you all eat things that have weighed about the same. I'm working at a fish packing company for the summer and we just got a 530 pound tuna in today, and that's without the head. They said the average weight for the salmon shark is 200-400 pounds, so 575 doesn't comparably seem extremely impressive.
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -2/+2Murderer
- ouka10, on 06/19/2009, -0/+0wow that is a pretty gruesome looking shark.
- tjdeerslayer37, on 06/23/2009, -0/+0Thats not how it was done on this boat. i just got off the phone with Al (the guide) and he said that they kept pulling up halibut heads that were bit off. He rigged up some airline cable and a filet of cod while the clients were watching the shark off the side of the boat. The shark dove down and they dropped down the line waiting for a few moments and the shark grabbed hold. Al let the shark freespool for a few seconds and locked the reel in and set the hook and handed off the rod to the client to fight. the boat remained stationary and the shark was fought only by the client and not by the boat. He wasnt strapped into a chair either.
congrats to Joe and to Capt. Al -
