- EmitStop, on 12/29/2008, -0/+31I was hoping this would be about skiers listening to "Don't Stop Believing", but oh well.
- pradaaddict, on 12/29/2008, -0/+23Snowboarding and Skiing in the backcountry is serious business. People should really know better to not head off piste unless you have a plan, avalanche safety gear, radios, and gear in case you get stuck and have to spend the night. Too many people die from being ill prepared while attempting to ski out of bounds.
These guys got lucky, very lucky - santaliqueur, on 12/29/2008, -1/+175 Fahrenheit? Pretty cold, especially if you are stranded. Stop pretending to be tough on the internet, nobody believes you.
- vinceislegend, on 12/29/2008, -3/+18What were they listening to?
Coldplay? Ice Cube? Vanilla Ice? - 0260, on 12/29/2008, -1/+12Another reason to avoid the shuffle
- MattyDienhoff, on 12/29/2008, -0/+11Snow Patrol?!
- roderpol, on 12/29/2008, -3/+13Dugg for using Celsius insted of Fahrenheit.
- Owwmykneecap, on 12/29/2008, -1/+9Obviously the music kept their moral up so the could make it through the night.
But what was on their playlist?
Sleep now in the fire? - sockpuppets, on 12/29/2008, -1/+8Informer - 12 Inches of Snow.
- dext3r, on 12/29/2008, -1/+7Well, yeah, I'm sure it was warmer than -38 degrees while you were sleeping outside. Oh? Well I guess you were in an igloo then? No? Oh. You have a house. Well, yeah, that's real tough. Too bad for you, I live on the moon, where it gets to -170 degrees C.
- arcusxx, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6Yes it's not that cold. But given that they had endured the overnight situation with -15C, it must felt less than -15C even though the surrounding -15C. And with nothing much to warm them except the clothes obviously, the bodies losing heat and -15C is too much to handle. Don't you ever felt like when you go snowboarding and if you stop snowboarding/skiing/watever then you feel the coldness, not during you snowboard/etc.
- drewgibs, on 12/29/2008, -3/+8Dugg for the fact that it was a skier and a snowboarder, if they can get along together, maybe Israel and Gaza can get along
- Garay002, on 12/29/2008, -2/+7the "Zippo Lighter" app saved his life :D

Ok, you're in a ***** air-conditioned house, and if not, you're walking towards one, not stranded on the back-slopes of a mountain at night without a tent. Or food. Or water. - lamejoketeller, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5this article is dedicated to all of us who use our cell phones to find our way in the dark
it's like that, only, you know, life or death - DatDudeWiggs, on 12/29/2008, -1/+5Eye of the Tiger

- isunktheship, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3nay, twas the light saber!
- vinceislegend, on 12/29/2008, -2/+5You don't mention something nonchalantly if it's important, *****.
- earlvanze, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3Staying Alive by Bee Gees.
- Murdats, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3you do if its important to you but shouldn't be.
like when people say "I have this gay friend" or "I know this black guy" when it has no bearing on anything at all, it shows that it means something to you and that you see them as different in some way, not just a person, but a french/gay/black person - kenvsryu, on 12/29/2008, -1/+4time to carry a cree flashlight.
- davidrools, on 12/29/2008, -1/+4they were French so maybe it was an Archos.
- jayvisaria, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2Its probably an iPod but I don't think the British are as big on product placement and branded common names, except Xerox copies maybe.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2uhhh
wut? - evilrevolution, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2light emitting device saves...
- Halsfield, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2this is probably just mp3 player viral marketing. those bastards are getting out of hand these days.
- earlvanze, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2Had to have been Tap Tap. Can't go wrong with Tap Tap.
- drewgibs, on 12/29/2008, -1/+3***** you! two of my friends died living on the moon
- Spaceboy492, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2That's cold as hell for most people in the world. I've never been in weather under 30 degrees, and that happens only every other year.
- wipis, on 12/29/2008, -4/+5Zune? iPod? Or MP3 playing smart phone. I know the Android phone has an app the turns it effectively a flashlight and another that strobes colors that could probably signal a plane down if it had to.
- mannyfreshh, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1it definitely wasn't an ipod, b/c they only say "mp3 player" when its NOT an ipod.
- Halsfield, on 12/29/2008, -1/+2anything below freezing unprotected for an extended period of time can be very dangerous. it doesnt have to be -60degrees fahrenheit to freeze to death.
- AmnesiacJack, on 12/29/2008, -1/+2This isn't quite cats and dogs living together level.
- graemee, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1Had to be a Sansa 280, the blue ring can be seen from space. Try using one at night. Mine lights up my whole room.
- isunktheship, on 12/29/2008, -2/+3would make an excellent commercial if they announced the MP3 player brand... "ipod, saving lives since 2008..."
- flyinguitar90, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1Weather Report?!
- thayanmarsh, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1I was imagining them rocking out to stay warm. Turns out that it was just the backlighting. ::letdown::
- themastersb, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1This isn't the first article I've read where an MP3 player saved someone the same way.

-15C is 5F, by the way. - boebels, on 12/30/2008, -0/+0Definitely had to be "Don't Stop Moving" by S Club 7 they were listening to. They were only 22 and only had mild hypothermia. Didn't say anything about any frostbite...
- daridave, on 12/29/2008, -1/+1...and people call me crazy for having got that "SOS Torch" (a flashlight) app. for my iPhone. This is why everybody should do it ...
- inhaler, on 12/29/2008, -2/+1"but it when it ran out of battery power..."
Come on Telegraph, do some editing before you submit... - jerstud56, on 12/29/2008, -2/+1Where I live in North Dakota, it was under -13 F for a week, with -45 F windchills. That's cold.
I still wouldn't like to be stranded in 5 F though. That's not fun either. - karthan, on 12/29/2008, -6/+5I like how the article points out that the missing persons were French so nonchalantly, as if it were important.
Maybe the writer has some preconceived notions of French ability whilst in the snow? As a Canadian that just went through a snowstorm with temperatures dinging at -38 degrees, all I can do is really laugh.. But the end note is still rather odd. -
