I think they may have something here. Crashes from 1,500 feet will be much more entertaining.

Rather than a loop race, make it a drag race from dead stop takeoff to pass the finish line. Zzzzooooooom.

Each team can get extra points for a flaming fireball finish...

People die in nascar too, so a plane crashing these races wouldn't be the death of the sport.

I dont see the attraction in this other than "I watch nascar only for the crashes." It would be ten times as boring as nascar, baseball and football put together, and what I mean by this is that it would only be a thrill if you are performing or "playing." Also, what is the point? Couldn't we put all of that money into something actually beneficial instead of spectator sports? Oh, wait, that should be happening with all sports... wow, our priorities seem really pathetic sometimes.... "Hey, stop buying football gear, put it into education?" "***** that, I want to see the Raiders win the superbowl, I've got to act as a fanbase or we can't pump millions of undeserving dollars into pompous chooms!"

I've been my friends try and come up with insurance for a roller derby league... how in the hell could a business get insurance to put on this kind of an event. Pilots will die, not just break ankles. And god forbid they crash in the stands.

I'm gonna be glad to see this fly.

It's Speed Racer in Mid-Air!

The success of this venture will require not only an interested public audience, but also competent mangers who know something about rockets and airplanes, but also the sports entertainment industry. It will require TV sponsorships and viewership, even for those people on the ground. It will require a level of safety that will not result in publicly spectacular deaths, or even worse, government regulation and oversight into such hazards.
Given the FAA's new concerns about safety, but more importantly the expertise of the people running this venture, I suspect this won't make it past the exhibition phase of the game.

Oooo great! Like NASCAR crashes weren't spectacular and dangerous for spectators as it was, now when one of those suckers falls to the meaty scene of the crash, we'll all get to see the "tragic" videos of those who were dumb enough to watch in person rockets racing in circles!

How is this better than the Red Bull Air Race that's already been established? Buried for being the XFL of airplane racing.

Are they using rockets just so they can say "Rocket Racing"? I mean a jet engine is much better suited to this. With the rocket they've only got a few minutes of burn time before they're out of fuel, I hope these planes glide well.

Oh, that's scary. Just a few days ago I was wondering how we got to the 21st century without air races. Then this hits the headlines.
