- casspa, on 10/06/2009, -0/+11Definitely the best Big Wave Surfer, and the most innovative......but you really cant argue that he's the 'best' surfer of all time.
- nunney, on 10/06/2009, -0/+11Immense. But better than Kelly?
- nullcodes, on 10/06/2009, -1/+11Yeah she's bad ass, they sent two Terminators back in time for her and still they failed.
- civilizedevil, on 10/06/2009, -0/+9I think being out there with waves that big would quickly change your mind. Kelly and Tudor are amazing surfers, but big wave surfing, IMO, deserves an entirely different level of respect. Dropping in on 70 foot waves is a kind of insanity that cannot be matched by any amount of style. I'm not saying guys like Slater don't surf at a level that is unbelievable, because they are do. In fact they still routinely drop in on waves big enough to make the average surfer crap his pants, and the do it with a degree of skill that is unmatched. I'm just saying that if you crank that up to 70-80 feet... dropping in on waves that big is out-of-your-mind ***** ***** insane in a way that you can't even comprehend.
- inactive, on 10/06/2009, -0/+9seriously bad ass...
- MacBookForMe, on 10/06/2009, -2/+9Dugg for that Monster Wave Maniac
- YvesKlein, on 10/06/2009, -0/+6Can he out surf Kelly on a shortboard? No. How about Joel Tudor on a Longboard? No. He's a big wave rider, it's just different not better. Style is a huge factor in surfing even bigger than the wave size IMO.
- kelvintso2005, on 10/06/2009, -0/+6Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku is the greatest surfer who ever lived!

- kelvintso2005, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1is it on blu-ray yet?
- vanguardanon, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1Also, tsunamis aren't even that tall. The point behind them is that they are very wide, it's like raising the sea level they are so wide. In terms of height that video had far taller waves.
- digitalArtform, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1These headlines are messed up, then, because they suggest a long ride inland.

If you are in deep enough water a tsunami could pass by you without a noticeable trace. - k17ch3n, on 10/07/2009, -1/+2No , absolutely not. Anyone who knows an iota about surfing would recognize that he's being towed in , and he's strapped; in this isn't snowboarding it's surfing. Kelly Slater and AI pretty much embody what could be perfect surfing. People paddle into waves bigger than this chump can get towed into, and they do it modestly for the love of the sport. This is a pathetic post, next time google surfer not lame as wake boarder. Next thing to come on here will be the paddle board bros with standing on their boards rowing around like a bunch of indians. Learn to paddle, learn to stand on your own, and enjoy the contours and mysteries of a wave.
- slapded, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1HAHAH
- syrinx1993, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1Cliffs on both sides... I'm not gona paddle to New Zealand!!
- inactive, on 10/06/2009, -1/+2Surfing is really about style, think of it like dancing on water...so is there a best "dancer" to have ever lived, not really.
He's probably the best big wave surfer of all time. - rambomcfly, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1Kelly and Laird are in different classes of surfing. Laird is a big wave surfer. They're both untouchable in their own right.
- mjsilva, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1PC or Mac?
- jseres, on 10/07/2009, -0/+1No he just swam over the top of a rolling tsunami.

... - akroeper, on 10/06/2009, -1/+1There's no best, just best for a given break or best for a given moment. But Laird has taken the big surf game to a whole new level...
If you surf or jet ski and you haven't seen him in action, find a DVD or 2 of this guy in action and prepare to have your mind blown! - rrwest, on 10/07/2009, -0/+0I wish people would really get with the program.
Its not about how big the waves are, or how many miles you can ride the waves, but the love of the sport as k17ch3n says.
And its also about how you interact with others, but sadly it isn't what it used to be. The camaraderie is no longer there. People aren't really "hanging ten" anymore, but trying to get the best waves, thee best sponsorship deals, the best boards and compete, compete, compete.
Since the days when the Beach Boys were in their last days as a group, things have become comercialised to extinction. - quadline, on 10/06/2009, -1/+0of course he is the best surfer in the world, he was in born in a ***** bathysphere
