Fedor Emelianenko - downneck, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2022 years ago a bus driver in a rural russian town lost control of his bus, crashing it into a small house by the side of the road. the bus slid through the front facade of the house, eventually coming to rest in the kitchen of the home, pinning a 10 year old Fedor Emelianenko against the refrigerator.
Fedor submitted the bus in the 2nd round. - maxtrix, on 01/29/2009, -1/+12Georges St. Pierre FTW....
on Saturday - diggleague, on 01/29/2009, -0/+9Can't argue with Fedor being in the mix in the "pound-for-pound" category after watching this clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i0iZcLIrTQ - Trunkhouse, on 01/30/2009, -2/+11How does Diego Sanchez make the list and not Miguel Torres??
Buried. - ZombieAaronBurr, on 01/30/2009, -2/+10List must be relatively old or by an author who has no clue what he is talking about. Big Nog looked terrible against Frank Mir, whoc able to outbox and strike him, without Nog ever taking the fight to the ground. Not gonna say he is done for, but certainly not on the best P4P fighter around today. Paulo Filho can't possibly be in this discussion either beucase of his terrible showing against Chad Sonnen, including FAILING TO MAKE WEIGHT. How you can be one of the P4P fighter, and FAIL at a facet of the game is mind-boggling.
- anaclagon, on 01/30/2009, -1/+9***** no Miguel Torres!
- Exodin, on 01/30/2009, -1/+8The article is dated January 27th, references an "UPCOMING" fight between Forrest and Evans... a fight that happened December 27th. Article old as ***** or the guy who wrote it doesn't follow MMA and did it for ad clicks. Buried, sorry.
- euroh, on 01/30/2009, -0/+7Heres some wikipedia for you:
Emelianenko's only loss in the sport is controversial, and came at the hands of Tsuyoshi Kohsaka at the King of Kings 2000 Block B event on December 22, 2000, via doctor stoppage due to a cut 17 seconds into the fight.[25] Footage shows that the cut was caused by a missed looping punch where Kohsaka's elbow struck Emelianenko's head. Elbow strikes are illegal under RINGS rules unless the striker is wearing elbow pads, which Kohsaka wasn't. Emelianenko says that this elbow reopened a cut sustained in his previous fight against Ricardo Arona.[26] Since the fight was in a tournament format, a winner and loser was required as draws or no contests could not be awarded. Since Emelianenko could not advance due to his injury, Kohsaka moved on (the match would have been a no contest or disqualification victory for Emelianenko otherwise).
illegal strike 17 seconds, they wanted to continue the tournament meaning one had to move up one had to move down - Burento, on 01/29/2009, -1/+7He can be in the Top 10 if he beats Mir in their coming fight.
- Burento, on 01/29/2009, -0/+6http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbFwdlp965s#t=4m45s
- blackjack06, on 01/30/2009, -0/+6I watched him knock Arlovski the f*ck out at the affliction fight last saturday. It was awesome to see him fight in person.
- Pstall, on 01/30/2009, -0/+6Hahahahahaha... no.
- katharsis, on 01/30/2009, -0/+5Just watch Fedor at the Affliction fight. He is by far one of the greatest fighters alive!
- marcin26, on 01/30/2009, -1/+6That's odd in 2005 he fought 3 times, 2004 5 times, 2003 5 times, 2002 3 times, 2001 5 times, 2000 4 times
What's your point, just because Dana White says some ***** doesn't mean it's true - enog24, on 01/30/2009, -1/+6I'd remove Filho and replace him with Miguel Torres. Filho couldn't even make weight in his last fight and looked like *****.
- TaylorTAP, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4This is a good fight too. He's got a lot of skill, that's for sure.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC_5Cfky-o0&fea ... - Kidtuf, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4Hey Rickson, when did you get a Digg account?
seriously, all these so called victories aren't even documented, and if you'd take a moment to actually read through the wiki page you're copying from you'd see that even his own father disputes his record.
Seriously, stop drinking the kool-aid surrounding this tool. - sathias, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4Lesnar is a great fighter, but it's going to be hard for him to make pound-for-pound lists when he weighs much more than any of the opponents he will likely face.
- DickMasterson2, on 01/30/2009, -5/+9This list is garbage. Filho has fought like *****, Sancez dropped to 155 because he can't hang at 170. I agree with almost everybody else, but Faber will probably lose when he fights Garcia this year.
- bugsy187, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4Yep, Feydor took out Tim Silvia easily in the first round. Tim was such a dominant heavyweight in the UFC and for a long time. It's yet another example of Feydor's talent.
- cheeze_ballz, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4you're kidding right? he's got potential, but he's nowhere talented enough to be on this list.
- mrhuberg, on 01/30/2009, -1/+5Pretty good list besides Evans, Nogueira, Sanchez and Filho...Nevermind, this list sucks!
- BrewBarry, on 01/30/2009, -1/+4For being posted two days ago on Amog, this is a pretty outdated (and odd) list. It lists Big Nog as "currently displaying his skills as a coach on Spike TV's TUF", so it's obviously not factoring in his loss to Mir. And Forrest Griffin? He's a fan favorite, and a constantly improving fighter - but lb for lb? No...
- greenlight2001, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3Brock doesn't belong on the list... at least not yet.
- Epik, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3"Nothing but champions" might be stretching it. But yeah he's very good and deserving of all the praise.
Unfortunately I've found out very recently he's into orthodox christianity. lulz. - billricardi, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3If anyone is wondering why the list is outdated, the guy took a couple other Best P4P lists, paraphrased them so that he couldn't be called a plagiarist, and published it. Of course he chose old lists with dated information, and didn't take recent results into account. No recent losses or events seem to sway the 'author' at all! Amazing.
Buried as clueless. - JackpotCity, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3Fedor Emelianenko sounds like a regular Mr. BadAss.
- Keggluneq, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3Matt Hughes and Wandy?
5 years ago, maybe. Definitely not today. Rickson is 50 years old. - octodd, on 01/30/2009, -1/+4This list is horrible. Some of the fighters belong there, a lot of them do not. I hate people who know so little about mma, but talk like they know it all.
- oldhat, on 01/30/2009, -1/+4Griffin? lol he's so soft and he leaks all over the place if you even touch him. Leave him on the side making smarmy comments, his real talent.
Sanchez? he's such a mean tough guy until he meets a slightly stronger dude. Then we get to watch what it looks like when a lil guy gets beat down and raped...not gonna make the UFC highlight reel, he's a lousy opponent. Nick Diaz would have taken dude if he was just a lil heavier or had more time to tire sanchez out and slowly choke the retard to death like a good gracie does. (seriously, ever hear him talk?)
actually I'm going to cut you all kinds of slack because at least you didn't toss up brock lesnar...what are we going back to, ***** toughman contests? Talk about another useless big bully no talent gas in the 1st round loser. Is that how badly they need a new great white hope? This tool? hah, good luck with that after he gets yet another beatdown. - roflmcwaffles, on 01/30/2009, -1/+4What the hell? Filho and Sanchez are nowhere near P4P. I could think of a dozen other fighters that could take their places.
- ZombieAaronBurr, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3Don't think you can be either Florian and Alves on the list yet since they haven't yet proven to even be the best in their weight class much less P4P.
- bcassner, on 01/29/2009, -5/+8Agree with all but Diego Sanchez, He has had poor showings the past few fights. I would have added Michael Bisping, Kenny Florian, Jon Fitch and the best ladies MMA fighter Gina Carano
- lilredsammy, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3Beat Big Nog 3 times, Cro Cop in his prime, Silvia, Arlovski. What else do you want? Mark Hunt is a good fighter with an iron chin and some the heaviest hands in the business.
- Grazfather, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3Yeah, and it looks like the gym I'd go to uses that sort of head gear (at first). and yeah it comes from ear rubbing while wrestling.
- sathias, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3It depends what you like in a fighter. I find him one of the most interesting fights out there, and I like watching the way he picks fighters apart. There are plenty of slugfests in the UFC if people want to see brutal KOs, and I enjoy those fights too. But I also enjoy a good technical BJJ ground-war for something different. By the same token, Machida's style is completely unique, so it brings something different to *mixed* martial arts.
Like he said in a recent interview
"Look at my past, when I finish the fight I go dinner and have some fun and the other fighters go to the hospital."
" Everyone has their own opinion and I really respect that. I am a martial artist, there is a lot of thought and strategy that goes into the way I fight. Give me time and in the future every one will understand my style. It is like jiu-jitsu in the beginning (UFC 1, 2, 3...), it was boring but now it is necessary. If you don’t like it, sorry. I always try to win. For some that is boring, I know, but I am beating the best in the world. After my fights I do not have nothing on my face, no scratches, no bruises. I am like a ghost they can not find me. If that is boring, that is their opinion. But I will be there for long time WINNING. Let everyone underestimate me. I will always be training ready for the next." - sumokitty, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3amen
- ZombieAaronBurr, on 01/30/2009, -2/+5Yeah, like the freakshow Hong-Man Choi, pro-wrestler Naoya Ogawa, and Mark Hunt. "Champions." Fedor is a great great man, but dude has padded his record a little bit with easy fights.
- walkertexas69, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3It's not most entertaining fighters pound for pound...
- IsraGeek, on 02/01/2009, -0/+2I find MMA fights fairly boring when they devolve into grappling matches.
- krets, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Tong Po is the man.
- krets, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2You want to replace GSP with Matt Hughes? You mean the Matt Hughes that got his ass handed to him by GSP? Is there some other Matt Hughes I don't know about?
- Bobbister, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Bob Sapp is pound-for-pound the best fighter in MMA history.
I couldn't even type that without smiling! - Grazfather, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2I would start doing mma but I don't want gross ears
- Kidtuf, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Those cauliflower ears don't really come as much from "MMA" as they do from wrestling backgrounds (and JJ). There a lot of top fighters, Fedor Emelianenko, Anderson Silva, and the such who have normal ears. In fact most strikers tend to be fine.
That said, if you are interested but still concerned there are a wide variety of headgears that you can opt to wear while training. - ZombieAaronBurr, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2And then following through on the rest of history...2 times in 2006, 2 times in 2007, and 1 time in 2008.
- sathias, on 01/30/2009, -1/+3It was nowhere near as bad as the Tito fans make out, otherwise he wouldn't have been winning on judges scorecards... he would have been penalised like Kalib Starnes was. Tito was just too slow to mount any form of effective offence, so he gave up and pointed the finger at Machida for making the fight boring, just like David Heath did. Machida completely negated Tito's wrestling, throwing him to the ground in the first round, and was tagging him with elbows, and Tito was lucky to be saved by the bell. Machida was pretty much striking Tito at will, and the liver shot he dropped him with in the third was a thing of beauty. The only danger Tito had him in for the whole fight was the triangle choke in the third.
Fair enough if you wouldn't put him in your top 10 most respected fighters list, or top 10 most exciting list, but the top 10 pound for pound best fighters list has nothing to do with that. Personally, I'd prefer to watch a highly technical striker like Machida over a boring lay and pray artist like Gray Maynard anyday. - downneck, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2lol, you're an idiot.
