We ***** get it. The guy did this stupid, ***** stunt in the middle of a ***** hurricane. It wasn't that interesting the first time and it is not any better now. The worst part is that dumbasses above me think this is totally original and just copied and pasted comments that they made about some other stupid ***** just to sound cool. - marlb0r0, on 08/20/2008, -5/+15Duplicate:

(sorry :) - matthewaaron, on 08/20/2008, -1/+10I predict this will make the front page at least 9 times before it dies down...

- NovaPrime9, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6Really? You don't blame him for being stupid as ***** for doing this in the first place? If you're going to do something stupid, bad things can and will happen to you. And the rest of us are waiting, ready to laugh.
- imnojezus, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4They already have that award: you get your own show on MTV.
- MysticSavage, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4If you can dodge a bullet, you can dodge a ball.
BLAM!! - scoot2006, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Maybe she should have a talk with this guy.
- Rodalli, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Tropical Storm Fay NOT Hurricane Fay. Big difference! Hurricane force winds are in excess of 75 mph, whereas Fay's winds haven't topped 45 mph. Yes, It's still quite a daring feat but to put things in perspective, as a kid, I've flown kites, jumped on trampolines and just ran around the yard making airplane noises in the middle of tropical storm force winds - so long as you're not near anything that could fall on you, tropical storms aren't terribly dangerous. Just messy - and quite a lot of fun!
- norman619, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4My two year old daughter has more sense than this idiot.
- pika, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4From a FL resident: IT WAS A F'ING TROPICAL STORM!!! NOT A HURRICANE!!! people just love to panic for no reason...
- SumguyTwentyOne, on 08/20/2008, -4/+7Really?

Looks like that dupe algorithm needs a little tweaking. - papastout, on 08/20/2008, -2/+5INSANE! Vid Should be called: Aiming High for Darwin.
At least he made it to the hospital - jakdracula, on 08/20/2008, -3/+6This has been on Digg more than once. Buried for duplicate.
- wrathchilde, on 08/20/2008, -3/+5Well, I guess I will gouge my eyes out since I saw this one instead. Damn you, fourth dimension!
- Zizhou, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2You actually just have to remove yourself from the gene pool, so rendering yourself alive but unable to reproduce will count as well. It's just more common to do so by dying in most cases...
- mohsenxp, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Why doesn't he let go after he bounces off the ground?
- Residents, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3I think after the first fall I would have let go.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2agreed - just don't make it one of the top diggers who already does that
- fascistpig, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2No kidding. I can forgive a dupe from a year ago or even a month, but the damn thing was duped 3 times in a 24 hour period.
- Monarch818, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2But why would a read a title that incorrectly uses the LEET Acronym of Pawned? Because some prepubescent thinks Pawned = Owned?
yes, pawn as in chess - blah247, on 08/20/2008, -3/+5I guess no one showed him where the quick release was... or demonstrated that letting go of the handle will depower the kite...
- vdgmr1213, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3As a life long Floridian, I honestly can say that while this man is an idiot, he is also very unlucky. The winds here aren't that strong, and the thunderstorms are weaker than our ever day afternoon showers. No one even thinks about Fay that has lived here for years. But that still doesn't excuse kite surfing now.
- chkdg8, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2This is exactly why kite surfing designers need to perfect that waist band latch in order to break away on emergency cases such as this. Once you're latched on, you're at the mercy of the wind and your life is at stake. Just look at the death toll in this sport. Darwin or not, that dude is lucky as *****.
- NinjaBoy, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Man i hate to say it but i think digg needs some form of moderation system. Now i know that sounds drastic but we have tons of people gaming digg now days and most the time it seems just for the adsense money. We should have some type of elected digg moderators (be it digg employees or just digg users) that search out such tactics and remove obvious dups (I.E. both on the front page at the same time) The bury as duplicate never seems to work once it hits the front page due to the number of people digging it without reading it (social bookmarking).
- bushout, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3no, you're in a harness - although they tend to have ways to kill the power, i dont know if they work in hurricanes(!) and he probably didnt manage to pull it in time anyway
- encephlavator, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3OK, WE GET IT. It's a dupe, now stfu. BFD! What's more annoying than dupes? The dupe Gestapo.
- Misinformant, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3I thought he WAS the kite the first time I saw it.
- LiberalKid, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2I can understand why he's holding on while he's in the air but when he's being dragged through the sand, really?
- fingaz, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Dodge, dip, duck, dive and...dodge!
- captain4004, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1What u bet that'll be the last time he'll tries that ***** again?
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1LOL!! What a tool. dude was hauling ass...funniest thing I've seen in months.
- surf314, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1I don't get why all the florida residents are getting dugg down for saying it was never a hurricane and is really not that big a deal for us. Also a lot of people surf hurricanes, it can be dangerous but it is also when the surf is the absolute best. Most people just surf the waves they send over when they are offshore, its a bit safer that way.
Edit: I didn't watch the video yet, I'm an idiot. Yes this is incredibly retarded from the comments I was thinking of windsurfing, like in water (although now that I think of it that would also be pretty stupid in high winds). Regular surfing in hurricanes is very popular here though. My dad was actually in one of the big ones and said he'd never do it again. - monorailmedic, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1I actually got to watch this 'almost live.' They were showing kite surfers and I said, "man, wouldnt you lvoe to see one of them get plucked out of the air like in a cartoon?" Thent hey cut away only to go back to the same camera shot 2 mins later explaining that 'just after' they cut away that happened. It made my day.
Last I heard the genius was at Broward General Medical Center with broken bones, scrapes, etc...and oh yeah, a cerebral hematoma of some sort. - senfo, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Same applies for you. A person doesn't have to die in order to receive a Darwin award. Their genes have to totally removed from the gene pool so that they can't possibly reproduce.
- ramiro1975, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1I'm sure it was exciting the first 3 seconds
- ashwinmudigonda, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Nail biting finish for this Darwin award. But, I think Grampa McBush might win it this time.
- Lynx77777, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1dumbass
- W0utR, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1The only thing i can say is: that must be painfull
- inMotionDev, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1To all those opinionated non-kitesurfers out there who don't really know what they are talking about, but feel they need to have their say, let me clarify a few things about the sport. Kitesurfing can be dangerous if you do not do it responsibly. A lot has been done to improve the safety in our sport. We do have safety release systems on the kites. He couldn't just let go of the bar though, as he is harnessed in. It is possible that while being yanked at that speed and with such force, that he couldn't release his safety before his first impact. Thereafter he may have been too stunned. Nobody knows what went through his mind, so please stop speculating...!!!
As a kitesurfing instructor, I can say this though... Nobody, no matter how experienced, should be kitesurfing in tropical storm conditions! It is not like surfing... I hope he will be OK, and that he will learn from this mistake... - whatever01, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1buried for being a dupe compliant.
- selrahc, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Nine times this week the way things are going. What is up with duplicates making it to the front page in such short time frames lately?
- Ansible, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Here's an article with a lot more info.
