- anothersaab, on 10/10/2008, -2/+12good lord that's awesome. i'd love to cruise that around, but not where i live. i'd need full body armor.
- chase129, on 10/11/2008, -3/+12Blatant marketing.
- BradMurray, on 10/11/2008, -1/+9$2200 for 20 mph and 1 hour of ride time (and problably only that long for a very light rider)? Also no mention of recharge time.
- blqysmg, on 10/10/2008, -1/+7yeah, that's nice! I've got a Zappy 3, and the Zuumer addresses all three issues I have with the Zappy. First, the Zappy is too short. With the power on the front wheel, you have to get VERY close to the handlebars when accelerating or going uphill to prevent the wheel from spinning. Second, the wimpy 350 watt motor doesn't climb hills well (it's fine for flat ground, but I live in a hilly area) and Third, you can't take corners fast, because it doesn't lean with you.
$2100 is steep, but justified by the 1000 watt motor, the rear suspension, and the Li-poly batteries. - amneosis, on 10/11/2008, -1/+6OMFG 20 mph! Is it possible for man to breathe at these speeds?! Have experiments been conducted?
- stubarwick, on 10/10/2008, -1/+6man I wish my mutual fund didn't tank... otherwise I could have bought one... now i have to hope i score big this christmas for the the cash to swing this...
- rainskyla, on 10/10/2008, -2/+7I think its environment friendly too...Nice machine :)
- jerryn, on 10/12/2008, -0/+4I dunno about this one. I've got a Schwinn s1000 for the family. I use it, the wife uses it, my 3 sons.. plus we have our regular bikes too. 20mph, 15 miles per charge, I paid $249.00 for it. We actually ride our bikes more often. But this does work ok.
I think $2k for a similar eScooter is way too much!!!! - jmanjam, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4Bad Ass! I want one.........
- 200mph, on 10/10/2008, -4/+7dugg it nice
- skippydog, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4Wow I love that suspension setup. I think the price is in a good range due to the design and options. Not to mention the price of the lithium batteries alone.
- franklymister, on 10/11/2008, -1/+4I don't care if this feels to some people like the submitter is "selling something." Enough people thought it was digg-worthy, and I think it's a damn cool scooter.
It's a legitimate blog about electric transportation, and a good article.
As soon as these make it into the sub-$800 range, I'd love to have one. - BlackGum, on 10/11/2008, -1/+4Hah Hah he said he has to wait" 3 months to get his hands on his own unit'
- wizzroom, on 10/11/2008, -1/+4wtf, no seat?
- nathron, on 10/11/2008, -1/+4nerd bashing time?
but seriously, this scooter is the anti-poon. - brainflakes, on 10/11/2008, -1/+4For people who need to travel quicker then walking, but slower then driving, and who've never heard of a bicycle
- Angostura, on 10/11/2008, -1/+3I wonder if these will need to be licensed for road use on the UK.
- franklymister, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Dear god, how do you ever ride a bicycle? You must have a hard time keeping alive on the streets.
- KampfGherkin, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Actually, I take back what I wrote above.
After having watched videos of this thing in action: Sweet! I'd totally take one now. Better batteries and improved electric motors will in the longer run totally improve on what looks to be a solid platform.
Too bad I can't unbury the story. :( - linagee, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2How much does it cost so I can go ask my bank for a loan? Oh wait....
- KampfGherkin, on 10/11/2008, -3/+4It's not like you could ride it in traffic. Or on a pavement for that matter. So this thing has about as much utility as a dirt bike or skateboard. Buried for being an expensive, functionless toy. Then again the carving part/suspension sounds cool. Meh, still buried as advertising.
- clawatticas, on 10/11/2008, -2/+3I think I saw a doctor buying one of these after his scooter, Sasha, was in the middle of a police shootout
- Robstahcraw, on 10/11/2008, -3/+4I blew two grand on this goped and now I'm guilty about it. You should buy one too so I'm not alone in this massive mistake. Bury this ***** and go ride a bike.
- Dr3w, on 10/11/2008, -2/+3You could paint some flames on it
- blqysmg, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I've been riding a motorcycle for 30 years. Loud pipes don't "save lives," they just annoy people. I like the nice, deep rumble of a big twin, but the neighbors like quiet pipes.
BTW, the only thing keeping cyclists alive is being more aware of what's going on around you. People in cages only see things that can break their cage, bikes are invisible (and silent) to them. - reikiman, on 10/11/2008, -1/+2I to have ridden the Zuumer and think it's a totally awesome machine. It is totally unlike anything I've ridden before. http://www.7gen.com/blog/20080912/24897-electric-s ... ... http://visforvoltage.org/forum/4832-rode-zuumer ... They've carefully engineered it for regulations in the U.S. but in the UK I understand the requirements for electric bicycles are more stringent (yes.. it's not a bicycle but that's the closest regulatory niche it fits into) ... As for where to ride it, it fits the same places where bicycles fit. It won't make sense to ride in the stream of traffic because it's not fast enough but just as bicycles can ride alongside traffic so could this.
- franklymister, on 10/12/2008, -0/+1Really? Because I live in Manhattan, and I ride a bike all over the city. So do hundreds of thousands of people every day.
Ever been to Tokyo? Even more bicycles, even busier city.
You must get scared very easily. - uncertain, on 10/11/2008, -1/+2It was kind of crappy of the writer to put the $250 figure where your eye will catch it before you read more than a word or two of the article. Of course when logic kicks in a couple seconds later, you realize there's no way this is selling for $250, but still my heart jumped at first. $2200 is a little steep; and I'd have to buy one for my wife, too.
- chaiguy, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1When you're building these types of alternative transportation devices you also have to think about how you're going to secure or store them. What do you do with this thing when you drive it to the store? Or to your job? You need to be able to lock it up somehow.
- MalTheObscure, on 10/11/2008, -1/+2Uh.... for that much money, get a moped, IMO
- greenvortex, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Your point is still valid, though. Current laws in 99% of communities prohibit riding this thing on the street. You cannot use it to go get a carton of milk at the corner store. You can't use it to get to work even if you live only 3 blocks away. Until local governments wise up to the energy-saving and lifestyle-improving benefits of small electric vehicles like this, America will continue to squander billions of dollars using SUVs for short trips. The real hypocrisy of these laws is that it is OK to ride a bicycle on the street, even if it has an electric motor. What is the freakin' difference?
- gracias, on 10/11/2008, -5/+5Burried as SPAM
Get a new marketing guy, actually, never-mind, you dont need one because there is absolutely no market for these stupid things. It makes the Segway look cool and will never replace a bike, skateboard or motorcycle, for numerous reasons, one of the biggest: (from the site) "the unit didn’t slow down all that much going uphill."
fail - Averness, on 10/11/2008, -3/+3No seat to sit down. FAIL
- Rockkybox, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1My god, you're actually David Brent
- Cr1mmy, on 10/11/2008, -3/+3Go-Karts still are better
- adkenc, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1you live in Baghdad?
- ak666jk, on 10/11/2008, -2/+2It's almost as cool as a segway.
- benjorino, on 10/11/2008, -6/+6I like to pull the heads off dolls, stick them up my ass, and ***** them out for sexual pleasure.
- 808ethan, on 10/12/2008, -1/+1Yeah, its pretty damn bad. Try riding a bicycle on city streets and see how long before something scary happens.
- franklymister, on 10/11/2008, -2/+1Are you kidding?
If you need a "tough guy" ride, you're probably more like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA9jWqrTaGI - CanadaKyle, on 10/11/2008, -6/+5Agreed with chase129, this is blatant marketing. Buried!
- 808ethan, on 10/11/2008, -3/+1If you don't have a cage of metal around you, a noisy engine is the only thing keeping you alive on the streets.
If they hear you, they know you are there. - cheeseron, on 10/11/2008, -3/+1that would be much better if it had four wheels and was basically a motorized skateboard.
- Cr1mmy, on 10/11/2008, -2/+0Scrubs
- snowblind113, on 10/11/2008, -4/+1Broken with only 100 diggs.. good job
- nurbsenvi, on 10/11/2008, -8/+2While I like the idea I didn't like the aesthetics of it they should make it look hip like iPod on wheels instead they made Windows XP on wheels.
