IT means to curse something....- uhhNo, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4The FSM does not care about using "damn" as a figure of speech. He is just happy that they can now cook about 35k pots of spaghetti per day by using renewable energy only.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Then say your happy but dont cuss...very simple...

- xsuite, on 03/18/2008, -5/+1What? That India is known for delicious food? That hella surprised me.

- nitsnipe, on 03/18/2008, -17/+2I wonder how the cockroach problem is going to crawl out in this one.

- jlee2081, on 03/18/2008, -13/+6solar power... great...
What we really need is a way to prevent curry odor after you've down down a plate of saag- mstoneburner, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Why? Curry smells good and tastes good. MMM MMM CURRY.
- CryRightardCry, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3I think he means the curry oder coming from his body, not the delicious odor of yummy curry.
- mstoneburner, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Why? Curry smells good and tastes good. MMM MMM CURRY.
- surKaz, on 03/18/2008, -8/+6Hmm... 20,000 meals a day on average?... $5 million cost?... I think it's worth it.
Hopefully more solar kitchens like these can be set up in other places in India (many places that have crazy amount of sun all year round... But now... where to get the food to cook?... Hmm.... Well, one step at a time..
Also, can't the solar power also be used to power homes, provide electricity?.. or would that be much more complicated... maybe..
Anyway.. Kudos...- surKaz, on 03/18/2008, -4/+4-4 diggs?... What'd I say?
- neopherine, on 03/18/2008, -3/+5I dugg you down for not knowing why you were dugg down.
- foofoobee, on 03/18/2008, -2/+1Because Digg is just strange and arbitrary like that. For what it's worth, I'm gonna bump you up.

- meshman, on 03/18/2008, -1/+27"World’s Largest 38,500-meal Solar Kitchen in India"
You mean there are smaller 38,500-meal solar kitchens around?- displaced1, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2clever, I digg it.
- borez, on 03/18/2008, -4/+61 chicken Balti, 1 pilau rice 1 Keema naan and a portion of sag aloo please thx... I'll pick it up in half an hour.
- displaced1, on 03/18/2008, -5/+6Overhears talk in the background "We ran out of chicken, how much dog is left?"
- CedEx, on 03/18/2008, -2/+0If you think about it, isn't dog just another meat?
- displaced1, on 03/18/2008, -3/+0Dog, the other other white meat?
- CedEx, on 03/18/2008, -2/+0If you think about it, isn't dog just another meat?

- bromac, on 03/18/2008, -1/+5All of the energy on earth, including fossil fuels but excluding nuclear, geothermal and some chemical energy, comes from the sun. Harnessing it in efficient ways like this is forward thinking
Once we realize that we are tied to solar and only solar (and it's variations such as Hydro, which still uses the sun to evaporate) its easy enough to theorize how much energy it's possible to collect. I also don't know why geothermal isn't being developed more: we are living on a giant, superheated ball of magma. You'd think we'd learn how to use that heat. - displaced1, on 03/18/2008, -8/+5Dammit women, I don't care if its cloudy outside, get in there and make me a sammich.
- MaxPayne3476, on 03/18/2008, -18/+4India... good food? Nope. Didn't put that one together. Last time I had Indian food.... guh
- MisterNipples, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4Here's your ketchup, sir.

- MisterNipples, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4Is there enough mayonnaise on your turkey club, Todd?
- brjndr, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6Since forever

Go Back 2 McDonald's, philistine. - sk11, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2Since when is American food fattening?
- Herrold, on 03/18/2008, -2/+3Finding clean water is a bigger problem.
- malex, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6True, but projects like this are closely related. The need for firewood causes huge deforestation issues in many regions, which in turn damages the watersheds. Also, solar ovens are used to distill contaminated water.
It's all connected. - mukund, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2But they can use the Huge amount of HEAT to clean the water I guess

- warispeace21, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9Damn, it's lunchtime and now I'm in the mood for Indian.
- brjndr, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8Yeah, I'm definitely getting Indian food for lunch now. MMMmmmmmm...chicken tikka masala.
See you other diggers there.

- scitz0frenic, on 03/18/2008, -4/+1Wouldnt all that steam be put to better use making lattes, Cappuccino, Caramel Macchiato, and Café Au Lait!
Solar powered Non-Fat Triple Venti Caramel Macchiato-Extra Foam - amoore260, on 03/18/2008, -3/+1But how good does solar taste.... I've always been a charcoal man my self.
- regeya, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1I know you're joking, but it should be comparable to electric.
- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Mmmm, tandoori.
- badqat, on 03/18/2008, -8/+1So, will wives in India still die in "kitchen fires" in this?
- regeya, on 03/18/2008, -0/+7That's awesome. I've seen several examples over the last 20+ years of India using forward thinking just to keep its citizens alive and relatively healthy. Whether it's solar, methane, or other forms of energy, they've done it. I'm constantly amazed that they continue to pull it off in such innovative ways. Kudos.
We here in America could learn a thing or two from the developing world. I'm not joking. We need to invest in a bigger way in solar, need to find ways to wean ourselves off our current mentality, and in the end, we'll probably still be comfortable; probably not as cozy as we are today, but we can do it all in far more efficient ways. I was lamenting the fact that 100 years ago my wife could have taken the trolley from the school she works in to the office I work in in another town--and we live in a fairly rural area, about as rural as it gets east of the Mississippi! Nowadays, we have to drive, or we could walk for a loooong time or ride a bike, I suppose. Why can I not take an affordable train ride from SIU-Carbondale (Illinois) to St. Louis if I need (I don't mean "want" I mean "need") to go to St. Louis?
It's ridiculous that a period of "dangerous period of no growth" in America means "nobody's buying houses" and that that allegedly is defined as "financial disaster and end of Western civilization for all."- nayajhen, on 03/18/2008, -3/+1The reason those things don't work in the US is because people don't "NEED" it, they just wish it was so. Where as in India it is impossible in many places to have basic necessities.
- angiepow3, on 03/18/2008, -2/+0And on a cloudy day does your food go bad? I'm not much for warm milk if I haven't heated it myself.
- mukund, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3in rajasthan u'll find no cloudy day
- nomp, on 03/18/2008, -2/+0how do you cook fourth meal?
- jjustice, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1I'm gonna guess that either
(a) it's the worlds only 38,500-meal solar kitchen or
(b) that it's more-or-less exactly the same size as every other 38,500-meal solar kitchen - encrypter, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1Apu should set one of these up in the Kwik-e-mart.
- Deathrideshorse, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1Petition:
We, the undersigned, call on the Governments of the world to use some common sense when distributing Energy subsidies.
Why must the taxpayer subsidise the largest cause of man-made Global Warming(Fossil Fuel electricity generation) whilst alternative energy solutions such as Solar Thermal are forced to struggle?
Why must the consumer be asked to pay extra for "Green" Energy when his/her taxes are subsidising the very antithesis?
We, the undersigned, are not impressed with such hypocrisy.
