- Patogrande, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30Yay downloads! I've always wanted to have no tangible proof of something I own, and then be told when and where I can use said content!
- xOKxWhy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27I love downloads. I also love lamp.
- nymphetamine, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Because it brings us porn!
- CaptShmo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12how about "we all have ADD because of the internet and need it NOW and if it's free, all the better!" =D
- PixelEater, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Buried as inaccurate. Compact Discs aren't dead yet.
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10you maintain a 1:1 ratio of Bumper Stickers to shirts? You either smell bad, or have a very ugly car.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Dugg, but I have a question.
There's a lot of crap involved in getting that CD into your hands, but what about getting those bytes onto your computer? It takes a lot of electricity to power the internet, then there's all the cables, satelites, home computers, etcetera. So which is really more efficient? - P373Y, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4837609090332617729
- killeryugi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7A compact disk is a CD. Ever wondered what it stood for?
- Patogrande, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6backups? You mean like, say, CDs?
(I was talking mostly about Steam, anyways) - shibz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7most software that you buy you don't actually own anyway, you just have a license to use it in the ways that the company dictates in the EULA
- skyshock1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9It's all AOL's fault!!!!
- neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Or you could download non-DRMed software and keep backups like most of us do.
- UtahApocalyse, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6That will be my new T-Shirt and Bumper Sticker.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5AOL is responsible for about 5.4 million of those
- xXShadowstormXx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sucks to be you.
- Crisender111, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3But I burn everything I download on a CD/DVD :-(
- kamakazi17, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying that because you saw it?
- TheSpook, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I can accept that I got buried for sarcasm, but why did this get digged +5? It is wholly incorrect.
- HerrSchnuff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yeah sure, iTunes or Steam have like zero customers...
- Tabris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have lots of sex with my money, too.
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Best. Comment. Ever.
- toxie86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it adds fun to sex with my finance so does whipped cream =p
- AwesomeAndy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The ideal air/fuel ratio is a bit more 14:1 by mass. So burning 6 lbs of gas also burns over 84 lbs of air. 15% of the product (by mass) is CO2.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combustion - Sliver85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Backups like say, zip or rar files.
- kriminalintent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I do it to save the environment to. Less Gas in the ozone, no wasted plastics. I download because im Green.
- toxie86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dude you fail =/
- TheSpook, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And all this time I thought there was a difference between a compact "disc" and a "disk(ette)". Thank you for correcting me.
- loungechair, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why stop when you get married? I'd way rather watch porn with my wife than by myself.
- brownspank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Try boiling away a liter of water into the air in your room, perhaps that's a better visualization.
- fli7e, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did you make that up?
The law of equivalent exchange says that can't be true. If it were, the world would be getting progressively heavier until it divides by zero in some sort of event horizon of pollution, and even El Nerdo can't convince the internet that every gallon of gas I burn puts 16 pounds of unaccounted-for matter on this planet. - toxie86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1well with the way technology is heading these days im sure that a less green house producing soloution will come around soon.... i mean i carry all my files around on a two gig flash drive, and that data can be rewritten without having to use a new cd, and for bigger filse a removabel hdd can be used... digital music sounds just as good as compact disc, if its encoded to a high bitrate.
- grumpyrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The chemical reactions involve more than just the stuff in your fuel tank. The laws of conservation of energy and matter tells me that there can not be an increase in matter, however if it was argued that
6 pounds gasoline + 20 pounds air = 22 pounds CO2 + other crap
Then this is indeed possible. But elnerdo, quote your sources. - repete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Remember...You can love the LAMP...Just don't LUUUUUUUVE the LAMP.
- Kedyn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah, but why pay when you can get all that for free?
- Kedyn, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Who pays to download things?
- repete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You mean "...like most of us SHOULD do". Still trying to recover my RAID array three weeks later *grumble*grumble*grumble*.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2The idiot who wrote that ***** has a grudge on living. If you cannot think in enjoyment terms then stop breathing, there will be one less mouth to feed. Life is for living and enjoyment. CD music is far superior to MP3. A hi-fi system is far superior to computer music coming from a sound card.
Sure technology has created a few problems. Without technology living life on the planet would be worse. We can all abandon technology and go back to the horse and cart days. Horse ***** was a prime cause of tuberculosis related deaths. Women died in childbirth because of the lack of medical support. Children worked in coal mines to feed themselves.
My point is this. Humans are resourceful creatures. They will find a solution to global warming. If not the planet will compensate for it. The giant kelp rotting in the Earth's Oceans generates more greenhouse gasses than your computers and CD players. Send out the "GREENIES" to rip out the Giant Kelp. Meanwhile enjoy your CD's. - elnerdo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1They also need to be shipped, and burning fossil fuels produces a LOT of greenhouse gases. Burning six pounds (one gallon) of gasoline produces twenty-two pounds of carbon dioxide.
- frozenwalkway, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0thats made packaged shipped. so that includes the actually acquiring or synthesis of the plastic the molding machine or how ever they make a cd. putting it in a spindle or a jewel case packaging it, shipping it either by plane boat truck.
- PwnisherX, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3This makes me want to buy the programs now. Pollution rules.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0it is innevitable and ebdless process that brings us happiness....Downloading-burning-Downloading-Burning
- Vikkiey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Okay.
Pardon my complete and total blunt-ness..
But doesn't it seem that EVERYTHING we do is affecting the environment?
So.. would it be better if we all just.. became vegetables that didn't do/want/need anything? Seriously.
The world, by the sounds of things nowadays, would be much cleaner.. - theclaw1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0For someone pro-pirate like myself, this is interesting news. Downloadable commercial software or CDs requiring online activation can be difficult to get around their restrictions...
- Vash3001, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1i'd rather own a cd then pay to download.
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Porn in the loving, tender comfort of our own home. Awwww =]
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4dugg for the headline ... right on the nose
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4I have dial-up. Buried.
- dranire, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1It's "disc" you ignorant ass.
