- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -28/+63I have no problem with investing to protect against climate change. After all, climate change is what caused ancient Egypt, once a plush green fertile land, to turn into desert. However, the notion that man, via CO2, is causing the climate to change is a load of hooey. Volcanoes and decaying plants create 50 times as much CO2 as human activity does, and nearby planets are also experiencing a rise in temperature. Plus, CO2 is plant food for crying out loud!!
- betasp, on 08/28/2008, -9/+40We are not going to stop "climate change." Heck, we would barely be able to slow it. I am in favor on taking care of the environment, but I am not in favor of trying to stop the inevitable. This is like investing in keeping the sun from going super-nova.
- buddyw, on 08/28/2008, -4/+22So a climate change researcher wants us to invest in climate change research? How noble of him...
- TruthExposed, on 08/28/2008, -6/+23It is encouraging to see that you were not completely buried for that comment.
- Lucas123, on 08/28/2008, -1/+16I've always loved the George Carlin: “The planet isn’t going anywhere. We are. We’re going away… And we won’t leave much of a trace either. Thank God for that. Maybe a little Styrofoam… The planet will be here and we’ll be long gone, just another failed mutation, just another closed-end biological mistake, an evolutionary culdesac. The Earth will shake us off like a bad case of fleas.”
- TheInformer, on 08/28/2008, -2/+13Maybe Congress could pass a few laws against climate change, you know like forbid any warming or cooling outside of what's "normal", fine the sun for varying its energy output, and the like.
This would be a more productive use of their time than anything else they've done since fall 2006. - roddack, on 08/28/2008, -2/+12While preparing for a climate change, being natural or unnatural, is a good thing. I don't think government is the answer to that problem.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -19/+28How dare you speak such heresy?!? Don't you know that the Goracle and his Church of Global Warming & Cow Flatulence has already proclaimed that the debate is over?
Don't obfuscate the issues by presenting facts. The political decision has already been determined...and there is a huge amount of money to be made by an elite few when going green. - phydeaux70, on 08/28/2008, -4/+13Yeah....there might be some hope left for those of us who haven't totally succumbed to the B.S. train of the environmentalists.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -21/+30Another reason:
To line the pockets of various politicians, activists, scientists, and corporations who are more than willing to get paid by YOUR tax dollars at the demand of the government. - xsecretfiles, on 08/28/2008, -4/+12Great! more taxes to powered Al Gore's house
- brainnovate, on 08/28/2008, -4/+11I would dare say the government stands to make the most.
- 9bpm9, on 08/28/2008, -10/+17Yes, Investments will tell the planet to stop doing what it's done for billions of years.
- chewbacca77, on 08/28/2008, -2/+8*nova
Our sun is too small to go super-nova. - dekuscrub, on 08/28/2008, -9/+14"Climate change" is a front for socialism. Just another excuse to raise taxes and create more government.
Notice they stopped calling it "global warming" and started calling it "climate change"????? - WasabiBomb, on 08/28/2008, -2/+7Um, actually, it was overfarming that ruined the farming land in Egypt.
You know, human actions. - TheThirdWheel, on 08/28/2008, -3/+8I see you have "natural" in quotes. Just wondering if you are intending to imply that the recent earthquake in China, and the tsunami last year are a result of global warming?
Just wondering also, do you think we don't currently have massive funding going towards global warming research? - vanzan, on 08/28/2008, -1/+6Is this making it to the front page because the word "Climate Change" is in the title?
There's absolutely nothing special about the article. - scoottie, on 08/28/2008, -13/+18first prove that the current climate change is more than a natural process
- DragoonWraith, on 08/28/2008, -2/+6I cannot believe the ignorance displayed in this thread. I guess it shouldn't surprise me by now, but it does.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -1/+5Population control means you stop making so many babies.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -6/+10I smell a TAX coming on.

This is the same guy that was all over Digg yesterday and got banned. He spreads his vile filth looking for a response. But he's a bit more dangerous than that - DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF HIS LINKS. Some lead to a virus, some lead to browser hijacks. Just report him and move on. - wunksta, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4haha those figures are way off, even from the governments own data
http://yosemite.epa.gov/oar/GlobalWarming.nsf/Uniq ... - wunksta, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4jesus, no one reads the article
it wasnt about stopping it, it was about learning about it and learning how we can limit the negative effects on our society - Lynxplus, on 08/28/2008, -4/+8Totally agree, there are too many ***** sheep in this world.
- xsecretfiles, on 08/28/2008, -1/+5Why US and not U?
- PacManDude, on 08/28/2008, -2/+6I loveit, "Invest" now is the new liberal thing, we don't "Spend" anymore, we invest.
well unless it's for causes they don't agree with. - bobbarkerbilly, on 08/28/2008, -2/+5http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Researcher ...
Yeah, he wouldn't want to stop all those "big research bucks" from rolling in.
/sarcasm - Lynxplus, on 08/28/2008, -4/+7Any of you idiots that actually believe you can throw money at the planet and stop natural weather cycles from occurring are beyond crazy. This and everything like it is a scam to throw resourcing and funding into black holes.
- LokitheComplex, on 08/28/2008, -1/+4Except for people who loose the jobs under globalization.
- inajeep, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3Warm? I believe we need to cool them.
-sorry, I couldn't resist. - wunksta, on 08/28/2008, -4/+7its talking about preparing for the climate change, natural or unnatural
- dansvan, on 08/28/2008, -1/+4If you are going to treat climate change as something alien and 'not wanted' to the world, anything you do to try to help (like manipulating the environment) will only make it worse. They are natural changes, and people need to be less selfish about how they "don't like" climate change. It doesn't matter whether we like it or not, but undoubtedly, even a common person without prior, someone extensive scientific background can say that the Earth is changing in many ways (weather, ice caps, endangered/extinct species). We need to get over that fact, and leave the past in the past, and try to work with the changes rather against them to manage an already faulty status quo, maybe even hopefully make it better and less harsh on the environment. This "war" against global warming is a war 'fought' by people who do not like any kind of change. It's trying to fight our home, basically. You can do it, all right, but there will be consequences.
- Wargalas, on 08/28/2008, -1/+4Kinda like being hit by an atomic bomb vs. a regular bomb. You're dead either way.
- WasabiBomb, on 08/28/2008, -2/+5Do people like you ever do ANY research before you start displaying your ignorance? Volcanic emissions account for only .22% of the CO2 that humans produce:
http://md1.csa.com/partners/viewrecord.php?request ...
And, by the way, CO2 is NOT "plant food." Please do a bit of research on that while you're at it. And you know, even if it WAS "plant food", too much of anything is never a good thing. Ever overfeed fish?
Besides, we're clearing forests... so what plants are going to be left to eat all that nummy CO2 that we're producing? - norman619, on 08/28/2008, -4/+7It's about ripping off a gullible public.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -7/+10How do you invest against something you have no control over? That's like investing to stop the cyclical nature of the economy, it cannot be done. You may be able to slow it down for awhile, but it will happen whether you like it or not.
The earth cooled in the 60s/70s, now it is warming. Stop trying to implement your globalist NWO policy here. - ninepointfive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3remove denialism, and you've just described yourself. way to go! A++++
- Dynamoo, on 08/28/2008, -4/+6Global levels of CO2 are rising, and CO2 is a known greenhouse gas. I think most people in the world understand that. The problem is that reducing CO2 emissions is difficult and requires a real effort for change, and although I suspect that most countries (apart from the US) and individuals are willing to make some effort it will not be enough.
CO2 sequestration (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CO2_sequestration) is one possible way forward. Interestingly, CO2 sequestration can also be used to generate replacements for fossil fuels - http://www.sandia.gov/news/resources/releases/2007 ... - which is an interesting idea.
It seems to me that the solution is to reduce CO2 output as much as is practical, use CO2 capture to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and then make a major investment in renewables because the oil, gas and coal will surely run out at some point. There's big money to be made here, and any change agile big business should understand that. Companies that rely purely on fossil fuels will be facing extinction.. assuming that the human race doesn't die out first. - WasabiBomb, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2From "Desertification of Arid Lands", by H. E. Dregne: "The causes of land destruction were tree cutting, indiscriminate use of fire, and cultivation, which exposed the soil to water and wind erosion. Desertification was not the result of the Sahara spreading outward but of localized activity that could begin anywhere."
- Wargalas, on 08/28/2008, -2/+4If the earthquake in China was caused by us and global warming, I'm buying a Hummer and letting it idle 24/7. ***** China.
- wunksta, on 08/28/2008, -1/+3also, i like how you counter my government link from the geological survey with a .com website
well done.
and my point wasnt that we were causing all GHG but we were producing more than volcanoes. - anderson211, on 08/28/2008, -2/+4Researchers by the droves are starting to pile onto the "imminent cooling" message. Like a few people intelligently point out here, people create trivial amounts of change on this planet. Solar flaring and nino/nina events are far more impacting, and have already brought 2008 under the average temp through 8 months.
Digg readers will next jump to the "stop wasting our tax dollars on global warming" bandwagon. Use your own head people and do a bit of research. - wunksta, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2i agree but it could be suggested that the government has an obligation in trying to protect its populace and society
- follower64, on 08/28/2008, -1/+3I lul'd at the cow flatulence. Remember to keep your tires inflated!!

Right on weather.gov
Look for yourself when the next huge storms roll in over your state.
This also fits into the Problem-Reaction-Solution formula.
Create climate change via 'contrails'
Adding particulate matter to the air allows for greater potential for clouds to form.
The fact that there is a cooling trend suggests that something is absorbing the extra heat being moved by the extra water vapor.
Our reaction is that it is ' Climate Change' and something must be done.
There solution whatever it may be only furthers their agenda. - inactive, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2"Resources are limited, wealth isn't."
What a ridiculous argument. Wealth is relative to ressources.
The fact that we've developped technology and sophisticated welfare governments that allow to raise minimal standards of living doesn't make people wealthier.
And we're actually poorer. We just seem wealthier compared to societies of 200 years ago, but we are relatively poorer.
My grand-parents bought a three storey ranch house, with a farm, for a year's salary post WW2. Properties didn't cost so much because there was so much of it available.
Most people now need about 30 years to pay for a house.
And the fact that countries went from complete poverty to relative "wealth" by industrialization doesn't mean this can keep going on forever.
More people = less ressources
Less ressources = higher prices
Higher prices = poverty.
The only thing globalization does is make everyone equally poor.
It's owners of industry reducing the entire planet into their workforce at the detriment of more advanced societies and at the detriment of ecological and sustainable living.
A planet covered in factories and concrete = death of humanity.
A virtual currency doesn't actually make you wealthy. Ownership does. - Lucas123, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2No. I just think George Carlin was a funny yet poignant comedian who made people think. And, people are always saying "Save the planet", when what they really mean is "Save the human race"
