- 4DFX, on 03/23/2008, -1/+10Obviously, you're missing the plant drivers.
- phronko, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5Well the article did say "legally blind", which probably just means that they aren't allowed to drive vehicles.
- ashbttrfli, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5 I think it would be great if these scientists could use this sonar algorithm to come up with something like an MP3 player-type of device for visually impaired people to use in their every day lives.

- WraTH017, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4Not. He was just bat ***** crazy.
- J3Holaday, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4That was interesting. I wonder how long before they try using it to find people growing pot out doors.
- lonewalker, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3Reminds me of The Sound Machine by Roald Dahl
- katrink, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3Phew, I was nervous about the title of this article. I was afraid of learning about terrorized screams coming out of my salad bowl.
- oojamaflip2006, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3Hopefully not before harvest time.
- smotpoker1, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2what does a pot sound like? I get the impression of Towel from "South Park" saying "you wanna get high?"
- glinsvad, on 03/23/2008, -1/+3cat: /dev/plant: No such file or directory

- thefinger, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2Just going by the headline, I had to respond:
"What Does a Plant Sound Like?"
Well, there is one plant species called Diggus Userus Imbecilus which says things like "meh", "lolz", "I call *****", "am I the only one", "***** the RIAA" and others. For a complete vocabulary index, see Digg.com - Cattywampus, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2There's an old photo of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, wearing a pair of headphones, listening to a tomato plant. Maybe he was ahead of his time (or not).
- ileftfark, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2if only this conversation had happened on irc. bash.org would happily welcome your comments!

- trowelfaz, on 03/23/2008, -1/+2This just in:
The RIAA issues a John Doe seponea to Mother Nature for 'making available' music through the Plant2Plant pollen sharing network. - fwertz, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1Great, but can you turn a plant inside out without folds or creases?
- ElbertF, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1Heh, me too. I'm never mowing my lawn again thanks to that book.
- antdude, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1Where do we get the plants? Are they open sourced?
- yujie, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1It sounds like chicken?
- Premier, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1Dugg for best use of a pointless spectrum graphic
- tapeworm77, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Guano... it's called guano.
- Ramble, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1What I'd design is a microwave/radar type thing that sees in front of the blind person, and then using holophonic technology construct a 3D sound space so the blind person can accurately see where the object is, and how fast it is moving. Perhaps using different sounds for different objects.
- Tetraca, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1***** Digga Usoris Bardis. It's actually a species of the genus *****, believed to be closely related to the Neanderthal, and thus also closley related to the human. Like the Neanderthal, their range of sounds is limited by their lack of a mental protusion on their chin, possibly an evolutionary advancement to allow a closer view of a computer monitor. Although remains suggest that Usoris Bardis could speak a language, it is generally agreed upon that they could only speak a proto-language due to their small cranial capacity. This speech is often in defiance to the authority of other species of ape --- such as Pan Religionis --- though in common practice the species would only speak utterances of joy, anger, apathy, Rick Astley, Portal, or other such emotions.
