Britta and GERBER hand pump HEPA Filters for water purification only cost 49.99 and are perfect for small scale purifications on the trail and in disaster situations, and are good for up to 400 gallons. Way more than this thing is. This is nothing more than a rip-off compaired with what is out there now.

The only reason it kills the bacteria in your mouth is because it also kills anything else it touches thanks to it being one of the most reactive elements on the table...

A wind up radio/flashlight isn't very practical either (unless you have a lot of time on your hands), and you probably don't get most of your power from a gas powered generator, but these things can save your life in a bad enough situation. Presumably, you should have bottled water in the case of an emergency, but if it gets contaminated in a flood or you wind up in a Katrina-like situation (or tsunami, or severely flooded river) where rescue takes days, such a device could save some lives.
One of the biggest problems with floods besides the water itself drowning folks is the diseases that crop up when desperate people consume that tainted water, either directly or through sources that they consider safe but have been contaminated. - Bainemo, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2Because you're not The Incredible Hulk

And minerals, depending on what area your aquafier is in. Anything else, and the EPA makes them shut down the well.
