- ragmaster, on 10/10/2007, -20/+122This is total BS. What about all the emissions from getting the oil out of the earth and getting it to the services station. Then you got those fat truckies eating triple the calories of a normal person while they are delivering the petrol.
- freexe, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23And the embodied energy in the car itself. And the energy you use in driving the car. And the energy in keeping the road network usable to cars. And the gains in being healtier. This artcle is total BS
I'll stick to riding my bike.- Jablinsk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0And the energy used to make the car... It goes on and on when you look at it from this perspective. This IS complete *****.
- ToadLeg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9How about the fuel required to transport the fuel to the car? The amount of emissions from turning crude oil into gasoline? How about the difference in the type of pollution from a cow as opposed to gasoline refining/burning. I have serious doubts about this "study," especially because it takes an order of magnitude more energy to move a car than to move a human. This "study" will probably be used in every anti-environmentalism argument for the next decade.
- pring, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Agreed, plus if every one were to stop walking or using public transit and use their cars, then there would be even more cars idling in traffic using up even more fuel. I suspect this is written form a Big oil lobbyist.
- rebuilder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You know, that's something I never understood. Why are truckers legendary for eating so much? I mean, how much energy can you consume sitting down all day?
I guess part of it is they only stop so often, and get really hungry in between stops, but c'mon - buy a snack or something to go.- matador3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Have you ever eaten truck stop food? Deep fried everything. I don't think they eat that much more, they just eat really bad food.
- rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Check up on who owns that rag, and you'll understand the agenda behind that article.
- octopod42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thumbs up for truth.
