- dhughes, on 10/13/2009, -1/+47 The Boston police would have blown it up ten minutes after it was put there.
- davincih, on 10/13/2009, -3/+41Why are deaf people reacting to a sound in the video? That is... odd.
- CB810, on 10/12/2009, -0/+34Sound effects = cleaner parks. Who knew?
- boulderomen, on 10/13/2009, -0/+28I don't think they were all deaf, the lady who was inspecting the trashcan was signing that it sounded like a 'bobm', she then continued to correct herself and spell 'bomb'.
- AngryDeuce, on 10/13/2009, -0/+25"QUICK JOHNNY GO GET SOME ROCKS LOLOLOLOL!!!!"
Somehow, I could see something like this getting abused here in the U.S. That's if the sound ***** actually stayed in the can and didn't get ripped off in broad daylight. - awinn233, on 10/13/2009, -0/+23That's not a recycling bin, it's just a trash can.
- irfanmp, on 10/12/2009, -2/+15If you make recycling fun, what's to stop people from throwing away non-recyclable materials in those bins?
- waj5001, on 10/13/2009, -0/+11Linda (The deaf lady) from Sesame Street used to bob her head to music all the time, used to confuse the hell out of me when I was little.
- StevieJanowski, on 10/13/2009, -0/+7I'd throw everything in there just to hear the sounds over and over again
- jaybol, on 10/13/2009, -0/+7This blows the old lady's mind at 0:32 with the glasses and white jacket
- InfiniteNothing, on 10/13/2009, -1/+8I'm pretty sure that wasn't a recycle bin.
- marko777, on 10/13/2009, -0/+7Would be more successful if they used a NOM NOM NOM sound and called the bin "Feed the troll"
- Atario, on 10/19/2009, -0/+6No way. First they would have blocked off all the surrounding streets and highways, snarling traffic all day. Then they would have set up a perimeter about 500 yards in diameter. Then they would have called in a bomb squad. Then they would have held a press conference about the awful terrorists they valiantly fought that day.
- rusty0101, on 10/13/2009, -0/+5It's part of their image building process. They want potential customers and existing owners to feel that Volkswagon is part of a community of people who care about the environment and people's health.
Personally I Preferred the 'un-pimp your auto' series, but it takes all kinds. - boulderomen, on 10/13/2009, -0/+5This reminds me a lot of that vid where the guy is hiding out in the mailbox and throws out people's mail as they toss it in, didn't end too well from what I recall......
- k3rfuffl3, on 10/13/2009, -0/+5Yep. Like anything organic you can use them as fertilizer.
- boulderomen, on 10/13/2009, -0/+5A lot of the time the signs are pretty similar in shape and structure and you can usually get an idea of what they're trying to communicate. But, being that American Sign Language is based on French Sign Language I'd guess that the Swedish would have a lot in common with ASL.
- markyman, on 10/12/2009, -0/+5People are really nosy...
- Mawds, on 10/20/2009, -0/+3Aye, we need them for Soylent Green
- jonathanseely, on 10/13/2009, -1/+4I'd be shoveling stuff into there.
- k3rfuffl3, on 10/13/2009, -0/+3If those were near where I lived I'd be smashing them with a baseball bat so I could sleep at night. NIMBY NIMBY NIMBY
- Schmich, on 10/13/2009, -0/+3Don't take into account digg titles as they're usually false. As it states in the youtube title (okay don't pay attention to them either in other cases) and in the video it's just a normal bin, not a recycling one.
- casspa, on 10/13/2009, -0/+3These should be everywhere.
- Schmich, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2The footage is from Sweden and I assume you could read her when you're from the States. I always thought the international sign language wasn't learned much. Do you both just happen to know it or are the letters the same in most languages?
- rusty0101, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2Oscar Bin: "Hey thanks for the TRASH!" (See if you can find a Denis Leary sound alike)
Kermit Bin: "Hi Ho! <Splash>"
Big Bird Bin: "Hey! Thanks for picking up the trash!"
Someone some where will probably build a bin that tosses trash tossed into it back out. Perhaps with a 'Not good enough!' soundtrack.
one should have the soundtrack from the old American Indian weeping over litter commercial from the 70s.
I don't remember if there was a School House Rock episode about littering, but the soundtrack for the intro or exit from the episode might be 'interesting.'
Loud 'ticking' with a 'pop' at the end.
build one with a scale built into it and a voiceover saying 'You just threw nnn grams of trash away! Thanks" Extra credit for doing this in multiple languages. Double extra if the languages are not commonly used locally.
Variation of the keyboard steps version would be to set up 8 or 13 of these side by side with a xylaphone chime for trash thrown away.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Start your engines! <I don't wanna start sound if the temps below freezing, NASCAR engine start otherwise>" - milkmage, on 10/14/2009, -0/+2only lazy americans fail at sorting their trash.
- boulderomen, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2ASL = American Sign Language
- anthropodeus, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2@boulderomen
ASL? - mt3ck, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2the fact they are just getting people to throw ***** away is enough i was surprised to see people looking around for trash to do it again.. the idea is perfect
- seraph1982, on 10/13/2009, -1/+3<3 VW
- explodingzebras, on 10/14/2009, -0/+2I wondered what jacko did with his leftovers
- andyp7, on 10/14/2009, -0/+2ooh snap!
- Philbert, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2Kinda goofy that it has the slide whistle noise. I would've had more fun with it if it was just the noise of the item hitting the sides all the way down.
- osteor10, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1WHAAAT?
- RaulMuadDib, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1They said in the video
- chaos7, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1awesome
- sgvprelude, on 10/13/2009, -1/+2I don't see how this is related to Volkswagon. They build fun trashcans so now I should buy their cars?
- freakFlag, on 10/13/2009, -1/+2KABOOOOMM!!!!!
- RaulMuadDib, on 10/13/2009, -1/+2How did those deaf people hear anything?
- Philbert, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1See the response to "davincihdavincih " above, it was explained.
- hogg1371, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Cool idea, Im thinking of some different mods for bins right now.
- DanAtkinson, on 10/14/2009, -0/+1Simple but effective! I'm impressed!
- inactive, on 10/21/2009, -0/+112/m/southern california
Oh, wait, you mean... Oh, nevermind then. - overtoke, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1low frequencies can be felt
- komodovaraan, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1The Efteling amusement park in the Netherlands (a fairytale theme park) has had trash bins with sound effect since 1959.
It is based on the same principle of making it fun to be tidy.
The bin's are shaped in the form of a fat boy with a big round mouth, called 'Holle Bolle Gijs' and softly call out: "papier hier" (paper here) when you throw some trash in their mouth they reply with a deep voice "dank u" (thank you).
Great fun for kids. - sgvprelude, on 10/13/2009, -1/+2FAIL
- Apolitik, on 10/18/2009, -0/+1Imagine walking by one of these at night while a homeless person is pissing in it.
- Hu99, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Hey it's my lucky day. Thelma sounds hawt!
- mishabear, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Great idea but I can see it getting old after a while. Now if they were done with random effects or different changes over time, it might last a while.
- Agalychnis, on 10/13/2009, -2/+2If that's a recycling bin, whats to stop people from throwing anything in just to hear the sound? I hope they have a good way to separate out the random crap people throw in.
