- wezults, on 08/16/2008, -5/+125we only need 1.21 jigawatts
- MetaMars, on 08/16/2008, -0/+57great scott!
- dougvfr750, on 08/16/2008, -5/+33Does this mean that the air in the US really blows?
- AWBoy666, on 08/16/2008, -1/+18Because fusion, while the holy grail, is still a long ways away.
- DarkShroud, on 08/16/2008, -2/+18I'm all for Nuclear power, but I fail to see why we should pass on free clean energy. Of course I'm for doing when it comes to energy it all and electric cars for normal daily driving.
- Greengoo, on 08/16/2008, -1/+16This thing's nuclear??!?
- cobophers, on 08/16/2008, -1/+1588 miles per hour!
- Murko, on 08/16/2008, -0/+14Only if you hit 88 mph.
- gavdana, on 08/16/2008, -0/+12I'm so distressed that you beat me to this.
- DarkShroud, on 08/16/2008, -0/+12A windmill could charge an electric car that is far superior to your rusted out *****. The Tesla Roadster goes over a hundred and gets full torque at all speeds.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+12Then we won't need roads.
- Haecceity, on 08/16/2008, -1/+13Nuclear fusion is 40 years off, and has been for forty years now.
- yoda7385, on 08/16/2008, -2/+11Great Scott!!
- bizmowacka, on 08/16/2008, -6/+15no more Back to the Future references please.
- suckaPU, on 08/16/2008, -14/+21i dont know about you idiots, but i support nuclear power. it's way cheaper than stupid windmills and way more reliable. nuclear is the future of america so get used to it you anti hydrogen fusing losers.
- rootnik, on 08/16/2008, -0/+6When I was your age we were paying $0.99 a gallon. So quit your bitching.
Wait... - AndrewDB, on 08/16/2008, -0/+6Well I'll be 39, so quit your bitching youngin.
- BoneheadFarker, on 08/16/2008, -0/+5Battery technology need to improve substantially before that happens, or better ways of converting the electricity into a form current cars can easily use. As it stands now, oil will be around for a while longer.
- AbsurdParadox, on 08/17/2008, -0/+5jigaplease.
- D3koy, on 08/16/2008, -0/+5I've said it once and I'll say it again...South Dakota...we can move all 1500 of the inhabitants into North Dakota and turn SD into a waste facility...then Mount Rushmore could glow in the dark!
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -1/+6The giant rotor blades will cool down the earth and save us from global warming.
- BossKey, on 08/16/2008, -0/+5The cumulative effect of wind turbines create a unintended resonant shockwave that happens to have its focus point over a forested mountain in China...where it kills a small butterfly flapping its wings.
- FTLJohnson, on 08/16/2008, -0/+41,000,000,000w = 1,000,000Kw = 1,000Mw = 1Gw
Do you use a computer?
Billion Bytes = Million Kilobytes = 1000 Megabytes = 1 Gigabyte (approximately - except that in computers it's actually divisible by 8... so instead of say, 1000 it's 1024... but close enough) - 3leggedHorse, on 08/16/2008, -0/+4Your not thinking fourth dimensionally, in 1985 the bridge is built.
- Kirizan, on 08/16/2008, -0/+4Back in my day gas was $.69 a gallon. And we had to walk up hills both ways just to get it. We didn't have this fancy "internet" you all seem to love so much..
Hey, HEY, YOU GET OFF MY LAWN. - AndrewDB, on 08/16/2008, -3/+7It's all that hot air rising from the White House and Congress.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -3/+7It's called a hole.
- D3koy, on 08/16/2008, -3/+7Ok, now all we need are 100 Deloreans...I'm making a time traveling crew, who is in?
- sgtawol, on 08/16/2008, -1/+5You should be in politics, or at least a govt think tank!
- BossKey, on 08/16/2008, -2/+6Your logic isn't flawless, it's just linear.
Careful...it was because of linear thinking that Khan lost to Kirk. - jdepp, on 08/16/2008, -2/+6USA used the equivalent of 3350 Gigawatts in 2004 and usage will rise by 2020 assuming Bush didn't totally screw over the economy.
So USA is going to generate about 3-4% of it's energy from wind, and hope for 96-97% business as usual. We'll see how that pans out. - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+31,000,000,000 watts?
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -1/+4Probably not, but its surprising to see an article about the US doing something good on digg.
- sadisticmind, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4its like a gigabyte (1 billion)....metric system man
- absurdist, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3You've never actually had an original thought in your life, have you.
- ricker2005, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4How exactly is size a negative here?
The US is way larger than Germany. It uses more energy, it has more people, and those people are way more spread out. It also has more natural resources available for providing energy. All of those things make the decisions for providing energy different in both countries because the countries have different needs, resources, and problems.
It's ludicrous to think there's some cut and dry idea of "bigger countries should use more wind energy". - ravage86, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Dig a big hole, line it with concrete. Perhaps throw a layer of lead in the middle somewhere, and put waste in the hole.
- avengingturnip, on 08/16/2008, -4/+7http://digg.com/environment/Wind_Energy_Causes_Med ...
- terencec, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3please excuse the poor scaling of the model, I really didnt have enough time to put it together
- Seidoger, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4Yes but, with 150 Gigawatts, you can send 123.966942 DMCs travelling in time at the same moment (Ohh paradox!)
- sadisticmind, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Giga is metric. kilowatt Megawatt Gigawatt.
watt is a joilt of energy in a second.. - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -8/+11Why the ***** would we need this crap when our entire society will be powered by Nuclear Fusion?
- Jack8274, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4DAMN!
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Bacteria. Is there anything it can't nom?
/fixed - BradMajors, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3It is all about money. Wind power has recently become cheap to produce. In the US whenever there is a way to make a buck someone will do it.
- subindie, on 08/17/2008, -0/+3Same here... but at the same time, I'm kinda proud. Good job diggers. ** pats butt **
- TheSalmonThief, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3okay I ONLY clicked on this so I could make a Back To The Future joke but they've all been done.
so I guess I'll make my comment worthwhile with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnqtXOi1iaY - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3Just this once?
- enewsreference, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3T. Boone Pickens has a plan... http://www.enewsreference.com
- WordsnCollision, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3Perhaps global wind circulation will slow down due to all the energy being taken out of the system. Nothing's really free, y'know... what will living in a world with no wind be like?
