- Wind4ever, on 03/26/2009, -1/+12That's amazing. I would guess that many of these solar systems were installed on houses. I'm glad to hear people are still willing to put money into their homes.

Check their balance sheets. Growth is almost exponential.
This site proves the inevitability of solar:

- Ferretman, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5I don't think that's actually quite what the law says (though thank the Lords of Kobol I don't live in California).
I think the rule is that if you HAVE solar PV and a neighbor's trees grow up in front of them, THEN you can sue to have them taken down. If the trees were already there and you put your panels in their shade--well then, you screwed up, huh?
Boulder in Colorado is considering a similar rule, as I understand it. - AntoniusMaximus, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4US Solar Market had record growth in 2008 -because- of the economy. Independence from energy suppliers is good for your wallet in these hard times.
- arbysrocks, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3i remember ibd forecasting solar to be next big thing about a year ago. were they right?
- demiz23, on 03/26/2009, -1/+4You can hate on solar power but it HAS to be our future, and this is good evidence that that future is not too far away. Stop seeing problems and realize that there are nothing but solutions.
- beauley, on 03/28/2009, -0/+2With Global Warming on many people's minds, do we have any ideas of the best way to lessen the impact on our future, or maybe a possible relief of its possible ravages or even a possible key to its eventual reversal. Many scientific experts have proposed

Solar Power: Source of Endless Energy - thcobbs, on 03/26/2009, -2/+4That and the almost free cost is great for people in California. Hell, in California you can even sue your neighbor to have them cut down their trees so you can get more sun on your PVs.
- lornali, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1It's a good sign

For the solar PV US installed 360MW capacity in 2008. Good, but nothing more than a blip on the radar when you compare to what happened in Europe. Germany installed 5 times US (1.86GW) and Spain installed 7 times US (2.46GW).
http://www.solarbuzz.com/Marketbuzz2009-intro.htm
It is unlikely that Spain can make the same giant leap in 2009 in solar PV, but I do hope to see US making a much larger increase in 2009 than done in 2008. - demiz23, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2anyone that wants to digg me down at least explain why solar isn't the greatest idea for power generation in the long term?
- fountainbleau, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1Burning coal to generate heat to produce electricity to heat water is very inefficient and frankly, plain stupid!
The most efficient use of solar energy (after growing plants) is to heat water.
Solar water heating could successfully superseed fosil fuel in most applications.
What makes you think the technology is awful? Aren't nuclear and coal even more awful?
If the subsidies bother you why not complain about subsidies on coal and nuclear, and let renewable technologies compete on a level playing field? A proper life cycle analysis will show numerous renewable technologies to be a logical choice in many circumstances. - EMGroup, on 03/27/2009, -0/+0With gas prices going back down, their growth should slow down.
- demiz23, on 03/27/2009, -2/+1stupid double post
- tacotomato, on 03/26/2009, -5/+2What a stupid comment based on ignorance.
- RoughCoffee, on 03/26/2009, -5/+2I say we just use squirrels as the new fossil fuel, there's plenty of em.
- ousthouse, on 03/26/2009, -6/+1Pretty much any industry which the government throws cash at will have record growth despite economy.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -5/+0Probably because the government hands out billions in subsidies. They're awful pieces of technology.
