- roostersheep, on 07/10/2009, -8/+48I hear everywhere that U2 is the biggest band in the world, and I'm yet to find anyone who actually likes their music.
- cobophers, on 07/10/2009, -10/+44Bono
The 2nd largest piece of sh*t in the world and weighing over 80 Courics. - Jektal, on 07/10/2009, -2/+32Shift Happens.

- pathouston22, on 07/10/2009, -5/+28Well somebody call Al Gore, maybe he can rent out his mansion for them to play in?
- Jooze, on 07/10/2009, -3/+25Shift fail.
- bjs3171, on 07/10/2009, -2/+19the guy raises money for AIDS in Africa. Honestly, I've never heard him even mention the environment.
also, i like how they use the statistic of flying from Dublin to London, to compare to a world tour. - buddamus, on 07/10/2009, -8/+24Its true, he is the worlds biggest turd
- ZincSaucier, on 07/10/2009, -2/+16where u@?
- 1337Einstein, on 07/10/2009, -0/+13What? Never seen a capital 2 before?
- BubblesTheChimp, on 07/10/2009, -2/+15We all understand the facts. However, U2 has labeled themselves champions of the environment and underprivileged peoples. This makes them hypocrites.
- Bense, on 07/10/2009, -7/+20This just in, celebrities are gluttonous.
- chadchadbinks, on 07/10/2009, -2/+14Fix it then. Make suggestions on how someone can travel around with all the stuff they need to entertain tens of thousands of people and not make such an impact.
Or...we can help raise awareness and get 90,000 people to decrease their impact and offset the entertainment that they like and enjoy. Finger pointing is a stupid, stupid thing. - scoottie, on 07/10/2009, -2/+13Just like Al Gore
- acknotSW, on 07/10/2009, -5/+16Like gore and many other people, he feels that because he does so many other good things that the rules shouldn't apply to him.
- bjs3171, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12wow. you just mentioned the Rolling Stones as being "in the gutter". wow.
- cygnus2112, on 07/10/2009, -2/+12I like U2's music. But have always thought Bono was a self-righteous *****.
There. You've met one. I'm right here. - Bowd99, on 07/10/2009, -4/+14Wrong. They are only band whose members are smug enough ***** to think they have some sort of moral superiority over people who have a carbon footprint a fraction the size of theirs. Bono once forgot a hat at a gig and had it delivered by private jet to the next stop in the tour!
- jhandfield, on 07/10/2009, -5/+15Don't worry, they'll just buy some carbon credits, that'll make things all better.
- hackiavelli, on 07/10/2009, -1/+10Joshua Tree was the first album I ever bought. It's a classic.
Everyone has wished at some point Bono would just shut the hell up (including the other members of U2). - gambl0r, on 07/10/2009, -3/+12This just in, U2 plants 20,118 trees.
(you know it's coming...) - edrodgers731, on 07/10/2009, -1/+10I love U2, I have since 1982. I figure that Bono's ***** is countered by The Edge's coolness.
Actually, The Edge makes up for the entire rest of the band come to think of it. - Lust4Me, on 07/10/2009, -3/+12It is only 460 km from Dublin to London. Compare that to a flight from Dublin to Sydney spanning 17,210km.
So 90,000 people from Dublin to London = 2,400 people from Dublin to Sydney, or approximately 5 round-trip flights for an aircraft carrying 250 people? A big deal? - SpinningHead, on 07/10/2009, -0/+8I'm not defending them, but am I to understand that nobody in a band that tours should be able to promote environmental protection? By that logic, it seems like we should only support presidents in bed with big oil since presidents travel in motorcades and private jets.
- surfergirlsc, on 07/10/2009, -4/+12Where U@?
- Waynerz99, on 07/10/2009, -5/+12Two articles on front page in less then an hour bashing U2.
I love digg. - gizram84, on 07/10/2009, -1/+81....2....3.....14!
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -3/+10Early 80's U2 = great. U2 from like 1990 til today? Douche Bags. Irrelevant.
- ksgant, on 07/10/2009, -2/+9While that may be true that he's an *****, why are we so quick to believe this "environmental organization"?
Sorry, this story is a bit short on the details. Where are they getting their data on how much carbon U2 is producing? Or is this attack on them politically motivated? I mean, it wouldn't be the first time.
Hey, I'm all for going off half-cocked as the next guy...but how about some more detail instead of just the knee-jerk reaction of "U2 SUCKS!" or whatever...We have no idea if this is even true. It probably is...but come on. - endisnighe, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8Another scare tactic by the Nviro wackos.
- Phelyx, on 07/10/2009, -0/+7Your post really nails the way statistics can be tweaked. Which is something that should be taught to every kid in every school - in a class called Critical Thinking.
That article could have just as easily been praising U2, and the headline could have said, ”U2's Environmentally Conscious World Tour, Carbon Footprint Comparable to Only 5 Round-Trip Flights to Sydney!“
To compare, the article could have ”exposed“ a lot of companies that routinely send a single executive on even more round-trip flights to Sydney or the equivalent every year to attend conventions or meetings, etc...
And people would be saying, ”Wow! U2 is such a caring and thoughtful band! I love those guys!!“ - roostersheep, on 07/10/2009, -2/+9On top of that, he genuinely believed that he saved those 4 kids from a manbearpig.
- thinkb4utype, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5U2's carbon use represents all performers' abuse of our environment. All musicians everywhere must immediately stop entertaining people and wrecking the environment. The Earth is too valuable to loose in return for a few fleeting moments of happiness. Musical entertainment is not a right. It should be outlawed to save the environment.
- MacGyver2210, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5You made me spit milk out of my nose.
- Johnagain, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5"Their voice or reason does more good than their concerts will ever do environmental harm"
One reason most people doubt that is bono's RED thing for aids. They spent $100 million advertizing and fundraising... and raised $18Million...
Then there's the day he forgot his hat... he dispatched a guy to go fetch it and have it brought to him via a private jet. Someone needs to tell him about Fed-Ex.
You see, Bono wants us poor people to take the electric bus and plant trees and recycle, but he's still using 2 private jets to fly him and his posse around, everywhere they go. And sometimes another jet for his hat. That's just ludicrous.
If he wants to burn a lot of fuel, fine. He just neds to shut the hell up about the environment unless he's willing to act like he cares, instead of just talking like he cares. - DarkMatter911, on 07/10/2009, -10/+15Bono...what an ASS
- nicepants, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4I wonder how much carbon is *NOT* being generated by the thousands of people who are attending these shows instead of performing carbon-generating activities?
- theartfuldodgr, on 07/10/2009, -0/+41, 2, 3, 14!
- CaptainNoPants, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4In his defense, that was a kick-ass hat.
- freeridstylee, on 07/10/2009, -9/+13Well ***** you Bono. You turd.
- Lucas123, on 07/10/2009, -2/+6And you're going to take the word of a for-profit business consultancy to judge them on that?
- rbarnes, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4It's U2, not Simple Minds. These days, Simple Minds are proudly generating no carbon footprint whatsoever.
- DankBuddz, on 07/10/2009, -4/+8Gore is the definition of hypocrite, and turned the issue of climate change into a completely politicized issue, rather than a scientific one. Not to mention he purposely excludes the affects of CH4 (21x more potent than CO2) from his presentations. Why? Probably because he comes from a cattle ranching family.
He's a douchebag. - CaptainNoPants, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4If the Stones are in your gutter who's living in your mansion? Mozart?
- Dragonfly2905, on 07/10/2009, -7/+11Yes, isn't Bono meant to be pro environment?
- theartfuldodgr, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5It's called practice what you preach.
