They tried this in Back to the Future 3. As I remember they did not have much success. Also Locomotives are badass...and we also don't say "locomotive" nearly enough anymore.
Buried because nbc11.com employees are submitting every other story from their website. There are approximately 2000 TV stations in the US and approximately 35,000 world wide. What if they all had employees doing this?
Current price of sugar is $2/gallon according to the site. Ethanol usage increases + protectionist sugar industry in the US == Expensive sugar! Sugar is a bitch to make too.
1) I'm assuming there's no distillation going on here, or the ATF would be all over it and want licenses out the wazoo.
2) How does it separate the ethanol from the rest of the fermentation leftovers? Or am I pumping a bunch of trub into my tank? (A little home brewer lingo there)
3) Aren't they worried that something will gallons full of ethanol is going to get broken into for "party time"?
I would get it for the community :)
If there are 25 houses every one would pay just around 400 bucks! http://video.nbc11.com/player/?id=249110 is the video to it
So.... Unless I'm not reading this right... This is basically a product to take all the guesswork out of making moonshine. $2 gets you a gallon of pure ethanol which you can then either feed to your car or yourself. The only problem is that initial investment. $10,000 is quite a bit more than what it costs to make a still.
