- MysticKatDaddy, on 07/12/2008, -3/+18I call ***** on carbon credits. In fact, I can sell the cheapest carbon credits out there. Just send me $100.00 US and You can offset your SUV for 5 years! I'll keep 90 dollars and give 10 dollars to some charity and you can feel better about yourself.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -2/+17Anyone who buys into the carbon offset scam deserves the financial loss they get.
Here's how to be more environmentally friendly, the jwoulf way:
Get a motorcycle. (I have a small, economical dirtbike. It gets me where I need to go at 70MPG)
Turn your TV off when you're not watching it. (I rarely even watch TV these days)
Install eco-friendly lighting. (one good 24w CFL is all I need at night) - Backstab, on 07/12/2008, -1/+13Teller from Penn & Teller says they're *****. I believe him over someone who owns the company.
- bsmeteronhigh2, on 07/12/2008, -2/+11What a scam. Well, I have decided that Methane gas could in fact cause the surface of the earth to erupt into a giant fireball of death. In order to prevent it from happening, I propose that you either put a tube up your rear-end to capture the stuff or you have to pay money to fart. It is that simple. In addition, because cows also have high amounts of methane, they shall be tethered to posts made of materials that formerly absorbed carbon and shall have tubes stuck up their behinds. Cows in India used for worship purposes will not be exempt from these requirements, nor shall our elected officials. Of course, because administration fees are required to facilitate my plan, an adequate FART FREEDOM FEE will be charged in addition to a rental fee for all tubing and related equipment. This money will be deducted directly from your paycheck in a voluntary manner (you'll never miss what you never see) and if you can prove that you have reduced your consumption of certain foods which historically have induced flatulence via receipts and careful logs and journals) we shall reduce your FART FREEDOM FEE by an amount equal to your adjusted net toilet paper expenditure for the previous year. Now, prepare to bend over once again...'cause you gotta be used to it by now!
- IslandJeff, on 07/12/2008, -1/+7I know you mean well by "making a change", but why must it be forced down the throat of free people by a group of self-appointed 'enlightened' ones? You've "raised awareness", but did the concept of liberty ever cross your pragmatic solar-powered radar? Profit is a de facto motivator, not forced coercion. If someone (besides the ravenous maw of the Public Sector) can benefit by taking a risk on "alternative energy", we'd have it by now, Friend.
- snowhite7185, on 07/11/2008, -7/+12Seriously...in a greenwashed world, it's good to get tips on how to make sure you're getting what you think you're getting.
- jmarvel, on 07/12/2008, -2/+7Carbon Offsets and the like are little more than purchasing indulgences and pardons for the modern era. It's the Church of Green; I want to do something "bad" (i.e. drive a car, work on my computer, survive), so I can purchase this indulgence and feel as though I haven't done anything wrong. It's a hoax, it's nothing, a waste. Really what we need is a Reformation in environmental consciousness, not more money making schemes. When is someone going to nail 95 Theses to the doors of the EPA.
- frofisrael, on 07/12/2008, -0/+5Thanks for the laugh: gorebull scamming! ha ha ha!
- Murdats, on 07/12/2008, -0/+5there is a lot of money in slave trading, next you will say the only reason we dont trade slaves is because of 'a group of self-appointed 'enlightened' ones'
- dana19812, on 07/11/2008, -8/+13Really great information about RECs and carbon offsets!
- cardinalgill, on 07/11/2008, -8/+11Lots of misinformation out there...very cool to hear from a source who knows. Dugg for deep, quality info.
- mjacks3, on 07/11/2008, -7/+9Glad people find it helpful. Feel free to email mike at villagegreenenergy.com with questions or comments, or of course just add them to the post!
- IslandJeff, on 07/12/2008, -4/+6Laughing and crying at once: I gave that site a hit.
Of course, the "hits" those site owners take are likely a carbon-offset, so I guess my nuts are okay. - right75, on 07/13/2008, -1/+3What a load of crap. Carbon offsets are nothing more than scams, for people like Al Gore and his kind to monetize their "climate change" fiasco.
- sodade, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1If government would stop subsidizing the polluters by not holding them accountable for the true cost of goods sold then the "clean" competition would be more profitable than ***** out dioxins, etc
- inactive, on 07/13/2008, -0/+1You should stop doing that.
Just another form of Troll feeding. - Andysan, on 07/13/2008, -1/+2A carbon offset is nothing but a carbon permission slip granted by some public or private organization that has no idea what effect carbon is really having. All they know is that if enough people fall for their BS, they will make a pot full of money while accomplishing various political hidden-agendas.
Eventually, all the smoke and mirrors will be revealed when their doom predictions do not materialize. In the meantime it will cost all of us dearly for being dragged into their web of ignorance. - palehorse864, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Captain Planet got a lot more surly lately. :(
- goon5000, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3I am the ultimate carbon offset, the greener you get the more crap I get to burn. suck it greenies.
- IslandJeff, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3It is, indeed a thought-provoking article. Great find. I'm sorry to disagree with the basic premise, however. Thank you, in any case.

Using High Tech For Conservation http://reno.broowaha.com/article.php?id=4327
We Love Sunlight Spills. In this article, How American Energy Independence Was Won, http://www.broowaha.com/article.php?id=3907, the author wrote,
“Voila, 4,641,748,800 megawatts a year. America’s heir and a spare to American energy independence. The Feds lease this land to U.S. Solar, Inc. (a strong, proud and patriotic USS for the stock exchange with We Love Sunlight Spills as its’ slogan) for The Nevada Solar Plant. U.S. Solar, Inc. is a red-blooded true blue American capitalist mega-corporation. U.S. Solar, Inc., through it’s Nevada division, Nevada Solar, Inc., gets the usual Federal and State tax subsides and contracts awarded to mega-corporations. A new breed of lobbyist is born, one driving electric cars with a solar panel on every roof. U.S. Solar, Inc. immediately pays it CEO $100 million a year plus perks and bonuses. U.S. Solar, Inc. hires illegals, has zero retirement and health care coverage, is non-union. It charges its’ employees for plugging in their electric cars, and each car has a solar panel on its roof. Ownership of electric cars is a condition to employment and the power generated by the solar panel on each car’s roof belongs to the U.S. Solar, Inc. electric grid. For those just not getting it :-( more ;-) tongue-in-cheek sarcasm going on here. Nevada Solar, Inc pays it CEO $50 million a year plus perks and bonuses. Within two years Nevada Solar, Inc., replicates itself in Montana and other American states, then goes global. It’s Another Great American Story. Brings a tear of patriotic pride to my eye, ‘cause boy, we really won that American War for Energy Independence. “ - DerangedPenguin, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3Carbon offsets seem like a good idea for larger corporations, take a boiler off line and you have carbon offsets you can sell to another corporation, this helps to offset the expenses of having a boiler off line not producing product. Carbon offsets for personal use is a way for hypocrites like OwlGore, to say sorry about wasting so much energy, but hey boys and girls, do as I say and not as I do and oh yeah, I purchased carbon offset. Rich fat elitist pig...
- karenfw, on 07/11/2008, -8/+8Thanks! Really appreciate this insightful and balanced review.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -2/+2Why don't you just go by Mike?
no way why should i change? He's the one that sucks! - inactive, on 07/13/2008, -1/+1@"money in slave trading": There is a benefit to the ecosystem if you, and everyone you know don't exist. Will you go die in a mass grave?
Oh, next you'll be saying that making an argument based on assuming that I like all forms of environmentalism (or money making), regardless of the social, human or moral costs is a really stupid thing to do.
Oil companies don't promote pollution, they sell a product that provides you with the life you enjoy. If you are not happy with that, as it seems many are, you are free (at liberty) to shrug off modern health care, food, access to information and learning, a social life, and just about anything else that seperates you from the typical dirt farmer of yore. I double dog dare you. put your barter-system-equivalent of money where your mandibles are. - LeadOffMan, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0sucker
- goon5000, on 07/12/2008, -1/+1loser
- mjacks3, on 07/12/2008, -3/+1Thanks mobiledigg. I would really encourage people bashing offsets to read the article. I agree with you in almost all cases and explain the problems with most offsetting strategies. But there is one way to do it well - to purchase carbon permits out of regulated carbon markets, like the European trading system, where your purchase forces power plants and other polluters to cut emissions.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -5/+3Great article; thanks for sharing!
- illroble, on 07/12/2008, -3/+1I am the carbon master and carbon emminates from my pores. carbonLORD, you have NO chance of touching my carbon making skillz.... BOOYAH bitches!!!!!
- life38, on 07/11/2008, -8/+5The one thing I am looking for is a way to make a change and show oil companies and others who promote pollution that their days are numbered. What a way to bring price down but then they will win. While the price hurts today, it is worth it if there is dramatic change in the next five years. prefer sooner.
- Carbonlord, on 07/11/2008, -10/+7No, not carbon OFFSETS, CarbonLORD!!!
- marabout40, on 07/11/2008, -8/+5I started buying offsets from Terrapass for my SUV a couple years ago.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -4/+0Did anyone actually bother reading the interview? Oh, this is Digg...nevermind. My bad for asking.

What is Digg?
