- dbizzell, on 12/12/2007, -7/+68I set a few brown trout free everyday.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -4/+26This article made me think of trouts driving little motorcycles away from trout nazis.
- JQP123, on 12/12/2007, -2/+17Actually, they just want to get laid. They were attempting to swim upstream to spawn ... after which they die.
- TeacherOfHeroes, on 12/12/2007, -0/+14Now *that* I'd pay to see
- platypibri, on 12/12/2007, -0/+14I'll round up the escapees. Let me get my tackle box....
- DrDragun, on 12/12/2007, -0/+13at last a result shows up on my search for [crazy escape pics]
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -1/+10This is complete crap to let these fish get away with this hooligan type action. Those fish should be water boarded and interrogated to find out who their leaders are.
- Ryan2845, on 12/12/2007, -0/+9Here is the same thing with an overly complicated escape route diagram, lol.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/new ... - dinobot, on 12/12/2007, -0/+8Andy Dufresne is not impressed
- FriskDown, on 12/12/2007, -9/+17I see what you did there.
- Rocketbird, on 12/12/2007, -3/+10The Salmon and Trout Association??? Talk about exclusive...
- irinotecan, on 12/12/2007, -0/+7Salmon die after they spawn, trout generally do not. But, yes, this is less of an "escape attempt" than an instinct to "swim upstream" to spawn.
- d03boy, on 12/12/2007, -0/+6I bet they don't swim upstream though.
- paechan, on 12/12/2007, -1/+6trouts kick ass
- ayeroxor, on 12/12/2007, -0/+5holy *****! DuggMirror got one!
- razrielle, on 12/12/2007, -0/+5lets just hope they dont taste human blood
- munkeyhatecleen, on 12/12/2007, -0/+5RTFA; they're just instinctively "jumping upstream" because it's mating season. They're not trying not to be consumed, they're trying to consummate!
- Roger, on 12/12/2007, -6/+11You mean animals actually want freedom and to live?
- wolvyne, on 12/12/2007, -0/+5http://duggmirror.com/environment/Trout_Stage_Dari ...
- FriskDown, on 12/12/2007, -0/+4Or put a screen on the pipe... whatever works for you.
- cfleap, on 12/12/2007, -1/+5As a longtime trout fisherman, I have never seen trout jump that high out of the water. Trout are certainly strong enough fish to do so. I just love it when nature makes fools out of men!
- thugok, on 12/12/2007, -1/+4I think the ones that try to escape taste the best. It's probably the extra will to survive that makes them so delicious.
- ladalang, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3Great story, I love when the underdog wins
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3i think that's a flower. MJ leaves have 7 leaves. not that i know or anything.
- MogusMaximus, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3This happens sometimes at fish farms, especially with salmon. Their instinctive urge to spawn where they are born is overwhelming. They will go to the absolute extreme to follow the 'scent' in the water to their birthplace, sometimes killing themselves in the process. Not sure if that's what these trout are up to, but I know salmon do this type of thing.
- ayeroxor, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3""We run a low-intensity farm and like to let nature thrive so we don't net our ponds. As a result we lose up to 40 per cent of our stock to predators every year."
Idiot. That's like running a cattlefarm without fences. It doesn't make you moral or anything. Just dumb. - Larakin, on 12/12/2007, -6/+9pic's? I only see one picture...
there are about 50 links to nowhere, I don't want to search through them to find other pics... - catalysis, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3You will have to wait for the full-length documentary.
- Roger, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3The article also gives examples of cows and pigs escaping slaughter.
And maybe they just want to get laid. Most people don't have a better reason than that for living. - FriskDown, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3Did you read the article? They thought the pipe was a waterfall and followed instinct like salmon.
- nibus, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3I love animals, they taste delicious.
- KingBunny, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Those who escape, pass on their genes. Those who don't, die. Isn't this how evolution works? Does this mean that we're going to have to fight for our food again, as the animals which can escape us become the norm?
Oh, almost forget the obligatory: "I for one welcome our new trout overlords." - JohnFlux, on 12/12/2007, -1/+3I think you mean air boarded.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2No, no. The brown trout come out of the chocolate starfish.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2NAAST (National Association for the Advancement of Salmon and Trout)...?
If so...are they advancing upstream...or to my plate? - Herostratus, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Most inspiring story of the last week. They're not the first escapee animals though. I read many a story of adventure in evading slaughter.
- sotopheavy, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2You mean you fired a torpedo.
- sjbdallas, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Not just a salmon thing, my urge to spawn has been overwhelming since I was 14.
- bosssmiley, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2Or hopping onto buses disguised as German trout, only being recaptured when they foolishly respond to a conversational gambit in English.
"For you Herr Trout, ze war iz over"
And...cue theme tune to "The Great Escape".
I for one salute the ingenuity and persistence of these piscine Houdinis. - joot2112, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg for "Come on lads, let's go for it!"
- sjbdallas, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Great diagram but I was sort of expecting a fake tree stump at the end that opens up so the trout can climb out.
- RobsaysHello, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Cool pic and trout are tasty but dugg for mentioning the military dolphin deserter.
- sjbdallas, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1By "predator" he means the bears that figured out 6 months ago that if they wait long enough at the end of the pipe, fish will eventually start shooting out.
- rondeth, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Life always finds a way.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1it looks like he's causing a disturbance to me. look at the splashes around the tail. Plus, even if they were coming out they'd have to get into the pipe somehow and i don't think the fish farmer is cramming them in there.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1http://youtube.com/watch?v=pmL6zkdEzwg
looks like Capt. Tureen got what's coming. - scotchsean, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1yeah, this BS story is much more believable than my explanation. You got me.
- sjbdallas, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, call the helpdesk.
And stop emailing me and calling me at my desk. I have other more important work to do. - sjbdallas, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Mmmmm, smart fish are more tasty. I'll bet one that talks would be the best tasting ever.
- catalysis, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Actually some people believe that meat factories are not moral.
