- speezer, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30Coming soon from Apple- The iHome. It's going to cost .99 cents every time you open the front door and you have to buy a new one every year.
- shaitanx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22Servers must be tiny too.
- Azslande, on 10/11/2007, -8/+29#3 Sustain Mini Home... Where white-trash meets white-collar.
- sephiroth965, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I think I could pretty easily live in one of these. The loftcube would be a really nice first house.
- rnwen2750, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19The LoftCube looks gorgeous. I would consider adding one on to a rooftop just for a meditation room or a tea room.
- crammaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11You have only been a member since May the 2nd and you have only dugg 12 stories.....
gotta love thos bandwagons huh... - dizzoknows, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12A large list of pre-fabs ready for purchase can be found here - http://fabprefab.com/fabfiles/fablisthome.htm
There are some great dwellings on that list. Anyone have a patch of land that I can, um, have? - skoles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I just wanna make an omelet!
- JimmyTheClam, on 10/11/2007, -8/+16"May we all live in one some day!"
Screw you! If you want to live inside a Habitrail, then have at it.
For me?
Hell NO! - dietprozac, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8that kind of goes against the philosophy around which it was designed doesn't it? These houses were meant to reduce the excesses of modern life. I live in a large house now, and all the extra space is only good for accumulating junk that I never use. I would love to just toss it all and move into one of these houses with only my laptop and a few books.
- Hush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Loftcube "boasts an affordable pricetag at just $55,000"
55k? - JamesWilson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Check your bathroom wall.
- artliquide, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I like the concept and it's great for people who live alone and don't need space for personal projects. I need more space, personally, or I'd have to have get a studio or workshop somewhere else anyway. I like the loftcube as far as design goes though.
- BrianKDav, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"May we all live in one some day!" ?? I think you meant to say "May we each live in one some day."
- OakRidger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Amen to that - I had to laugh at the line "At just $125 per square foot..." My house cost cost $45 per square foot. Granted, it was built in 1944 as part of the Manhattan Project, but its got four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and you can't see out the back wall from the front. I do like the EcoContempo - but that is still well out of my price range.
- qpPeteyqp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'd like to see the inside of that Micro-Compact home.. How do you fit a bed, a bathroom, and dining for 4-5 in that little thing? Damn.
- sephiroth965, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I would obviously need to have electricity tho. hehe
- yomomo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I end end up in one of these my life went really, really bad.
- Freshjive787, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4mirror anyone?
- manicallday, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Just find some friends and do a land trust. Although you wouldn't necessarily own the land your expenses of ownership would be dramatically reduced. In addition, you can also pick your neighbors.
- gutistg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3But it comes with a smug sense of superiority.
- matthewaaron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I could have sworn the title said "horses" instead of "houses" at first... I quickly re-read the title after noticing the description...
- unknownsoldierX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Seems like a better deal than the Microcompact Home. 77 sq ft. for 55,000 euros? That's about $73,900 US.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The video is here, however dubbed in German:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSjPj5I2cl4 - ultrafez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3And you are buried for being so retarded.
- ChaosSeven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I want a Loft Cube or a WeeHouse!!!
- Kahnza, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've seen Beyond Tomorrow playing on The Science Channel late at night sometimes. Just an FYI tp anyone that might be curious.
- rnwen2750, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I would like to as well, however I currently live in housing that I do not pay for. I also could not move out, so my comment was meant as an add on to my current situation.
- lolcat77, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't know.. But I'd have no shame bringing a girl back to one of these trailers!
- kirakun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I actually like the Sustain MiniHome very much.
- ritteh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You don't generally tow these things. They are, for the most part, meant to be stationary. If you need to move them, you hire out. There are many house moving companies that have all the equipment needed. You can lift them over houses and put them in a back yard, you can put them on a crawler to get them to just the right position, even on hilly terrain, etc.
- BackwardsPanda, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Better mirror: http://www.paara.org/equipment/images/BigGreenTrailer.jpeg
- Here4TheFight29, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1that's crazy i cant even imagine living in a house that's smaller than my bathroom..but i guess if it gets that bad I'll consider that instead of a box even tho the box is a little bigger
- kerouac906, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Same thing that happens to any other house. It gets destroyed.
- kerouac906, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'll take the 800 Sq Ft version of the WeeHouse. At that price it is the same as buying a condo here in Portland, OR, but the advantages are obvious, no HOA fees, no shared walls, your own land to develop however you want, and the inherent equity of the land and unit will rise much much more than most condos in the area, if not all. If you can live alone or with 1 other person in one of these it makes too much economic sense.
Couple the WeeHouse with solar panels for electricity and solar water heaters to feed in floor radiant heating and you are off the grid. Just need a good wi-fi setup and it's bye-bye to most bills.
I really like the land trust concept above, split the land with friends and throw down 4 WeeHouses... Maybe skip solar and go with a communal wind turbine... - OpNash, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Guess what happens when one of these get hit by a tornado.
- AlexanderZero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Those houses are awfully expensive for their size. $50,000? I would rather buy a regular sized home for a much better deal.
- siszam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's a lot classier than the obnoxious McMansions the capitalist, consumer whore, yuppies live in.
- LeeSoong, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1B-52 BUNGALOW in a 24'x24'x24 configuration would be ideal.
Big enough to live in all-year-round,
small enough to put anywhere... - CompIsMyRx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Don't forget the proprietary key technology. Lose the key and you're screwed.
- LouisC, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'd live in the Loftcube with a wife, but not with kids.
- papashawn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There's got to be a better path to sustainability than living in a closet.
- unfinite, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Same here. But I didn't read the description and was shocked when my gallery of freak horses were actually little silver boxes.
Hopefully someone will make me a TOP 10 mini horse article. Until then http://elliottback.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/worlds-smallest-horse.jpg hahahaaha OMFG IT'S SO SMALL!!!11 - zigspective, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4I really hope these people aren't designing these things thinking this is actually a practical solution. Most people do not want to live in a walk-in closet. People have lives, kids, pets...they own *****. None of which is going to fit in these eco-friendly claustrophobia boxes.
- etidmdk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1this guy has the right idea, sustainable design will rise, f'ing go solar
- etidmdk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1fabprefab is an awesome site for info and pics of prefab dwellings. you should also check out containerbay.com it is a site devoted to minimalist prefab and semi-modular homes made using recycled shipping containers. im a design student and this is my thesis, got to love prefab.
- paulpavlish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but where do you poop?
- craftycorner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You can pick up a second hand Recreational Vehicle to live in for a fraction of that frickin' price! You can get a sweet heart for just $10,000. Jezus! And the nice thing about RV's is if you got a neighbor driving you nuts is you pick up and MOVE!
