- ForbesBingley, on 12/19/2007, -0/+8I imagine the common interpretation of conservation is excessive cost. But in most cases, eco-tourism, sustainable harvesting programmes and naturally-derived pharmaceutical products can massively off-set the initial expenditure, offoring a lucrative, long-term ROI...
- petrodollar, on 12/19/2007, -1/+0the operative word is "long term." Third world poors want cold cash, not some ***** 7% ROI.
- johndi, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1That may be what people want, but most people don't appreciate money when it is just given to them. look up the "burden of gratitude" to see just part of the reason why investing in countries helps the poor more than giving money away.

- westlingken, on 12/19/2007, -1/+4Eco-tourism will def. be a popular trend in the future.
- PhantomBantam, on 12/19/2007, -3/+7I love the nature conservancy. It's the type of organization socialists turn a blind eye to.
- xanjamanuo, on 12/19/2007, -2/+5This is great, we need to keep working towards a greener planet. President Bush is signing an energy bill today (12/19/07)... another good step. I never thought this administration would do anything green. He'll probably rip it up saying he wasn't fully briefed on the cost of the effort. hah.
- MicrosoftBob, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Or add some of his wonderful 'signing statements'.
- rand0mm0nkey, on 12/19/2007, -0/+0He did it to try to avoid environmentalism-based steel tarrifs on the US from the EU.
- ChazHollywood, on 12/19/2007, -7/+2Just remember that pro-environment is equal to anti-human. The best example: Last week's proposed tax on every newborn baby.
- petrodollar, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Maybe you should teach your children to not be total slobs.
- smithjls, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3That might be the most ignorant and shortsighted thing I've ever read on digg. You cannot separate yourself from our environment.
- MicrosoftBob, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4That's either sarcasm or you get to wear the Idiot of the Day Badge.
- ChazHollywood, on 12/19/2007, -5/+1I'm not being sarcastic. Besides sterilizing yourself and saving the environment, name one human activity that environmentalists approve of.
- TheDreadDiggerD, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2cannibalism?
- cschmitz, on 12/19/2007, -1/+1I'm sure they'd approve of you ***** yourself.
If you kick the chair that you're standing on out from under you you're just going to end up hanging yourself. (since you don't seem all that bright I'll help you out, the environment is our chair) - chalkboy, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3Smoking Pot?
- johndi, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Look up what the Nature Conservancy. They are not the radicals you're talking about who stir up panic to fill their coffers. They actually do useful things.
- xanjamanuo, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Comment directly to ChazHollywood: Where do you get your drugs, bro? I need something that'll ***** up my perception of things THAT much.
- thejokker, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2People should focus on different energy sources vs. conservation. Its good to protect areas and wildlife, but the world needs to find better sources to run its industry and homes.
We cannot continue to have a growing economy without energy. It would be great if the next era of energy would be something made in America and reduce our need to involve ourself in the mid east. - Adma1, on 12/19/2007, -1/+2OK I thought this said "Top 10 Conversation Successes for 2007" and was going to be a list about new trends in the way we talk with the number 1 being "that's what she said".
- captmorgan555, on 12/19/2007, -2/+1Can the lists get ANY LAMER?
- ritapluto, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Cool list, but of course we need to deal more with the things we can do, like using bottleless coolers like pureez instead of bottled water..
- didgital, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3phasing out the old light bulb (which just passed into law today, officially) should be high on that list.
- viking101, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0It is nice to know there is someone who wants to point out the good of the year, and environmental success is great!
