- Marrach, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3The smell of the Stinkhorn is indescribable. It isn't immediately overpowering-- but once you notice it, you can't escape the stench. Mix the smell of day old dead mouse with fresh dog ***** and you come close. And the plant itself is utterly slimey to the touch-- even though latex gloves.
When I first noticed the smell in my back yard, and saw the pink tubular shapes and the flies buzzing around them I honestly thought some alien space seed had fallen into my lawn and hatched. They weren't beautiful, they were alarming, evil smelling, and eeeyuch!
And like vermin, there is no such thing as ONE of them. You get rid of one, a handful grow up literally in hours a few inches away. I had to dig up a square yard of my lawn to find all the 'corms' and dispose of them. The gloves I used stank so bad, I Threw them out.
One good thing about these disgusting thingies-- They prove Evolution is an Actual process. One would think and hope that God would have been more aesthetic in the details of his creation. Somethings we could do without, though.
