- sabach, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2Perhaps the caverns haven't always been underwater. Also some cave formations (such as some of those at the Lechuguilla/Carlsbad complex in New Mexico) are formed by sulphuric acid fumes percolating up through limestone.

Funny thing, I've never explored an under water cave, but I love the ocean! It feels like home to me :)

- eyebits, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1How do stalagmites and stalactites form under water. A stalagmite rises from the floor of a cave due to the dripping of mineralized solutions...or at least that is what I have been taught. I don't see how you can have that kind of action under water. Can anyone give me some insight?

The last time I checked 90% of the world's oceans where unexplored, a great deal of the Rain Forest is unexplored and there are still large areas of Africa that are unexplored.
