- gbarberi, on 11/22/2007, -19/+94The most incredibly useful plant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_sativa
- AriaStar, on 11/22/2007, -4/+16Most of the wealthy people I know smoke it.
- ohsin, on 11/22/2007, -1/+9I used to have this tree in my backyard though i never knew about its multiple uses but its dried wood was very light and of good quality i used to make miniature models with it :)
- TerrorByteX, on 11/22/2007, -0/+5Yeah, we kinda know already. -_-;
- tk0680, on 11/23/2007, -0/+5I actually stopped reading after the 5th or 6th "omg the benefits are too many to contemplate so i'll just waffle on about where the tree can be found AGAIN".
- BobbyFansRPpl2, on 11/22/2007, -3/+8but does it get you high?
- Echarter, on 11/22/2007, -0/+4What an amazingly efficient gift.
- hudef, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3Anyway, it is not hardy is temperate climates. I wold nominate chestnut and persimmon trees for cold climates.
- itanius, on 11/22/2007, -1/+4Wow......My guess is the web designer used frontpage express on his win95 machine to create the stunning visual effects
- wakananda, on 11/23/2007, -1/+4A lot of the developing world uses machines that are a few years old. And the tree is really old. I mean, how many millions of years has that been growing. Just look at it... Can't we have some newer, cooler, faster trees?
- rush378, on 11/22/2007, -2/+4The Neem tree and Cannabis (Hemp) are also pretty good competitors for this title.
- isunktheship, on 11/22/2007, -1/+3you know CHEECH?!
- cherwilco, on 11/23/2007, -1/+3geesh dude didn't we ALL have one of these trees growing up and used their light yet quality wood to make miniature models? I feel sorry for ya you poor depraved bastard!
- thehikingcrew, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2This is Dr. Folkard.
Heh.. - arobar, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1They don't "have to give way" before the planet is ruined, not to mention many economic systems.
- jcsw, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1*Cough* Coconut Trees* Cough*
- arobar, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I'd say you have irresponsible friends if it's ruined their lives.
- hudef, on 11/22/2007, -1/+2"The Most Incredibly Useful Tree on the Planet" but not in colder climatic Zones. I nominate chestnut and persimmon trees as pest free gift machines. Paw Paw (Asimina triloba) has to be the most tropical exotic fruit tree that is hardy to Zone 4.
- crownrai, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1Did anyone else read "Drumstick shaped" and think of turkey legs and not the things you hit drums with?
- BearinG, on 11/23/2007, -1/+2"It's hilarious to watch it ruin someones life as they grow into their 30s."
Because its a gateway drug right? - Cooperfan, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1I love these kinds of web 1.0 websites.
- OfficialJoe, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1Actually, the web designer exported this particular piece of art using MS Word. The Office 11 variety to be sure (ya know, one can view the source of a page using your very own browser).
That being said, the tree is still pretty damn great and I am glad to have read the article. It is obvious that not everybody is supposed to have l33t web design skillz. - wakananda, on 11/23/2007, -2/+3There are a huge number of astoundingly useful plants - this tree, and cannabis being outstandingly versatile. But in our daily lives we consume food, clothing and other products made from a narrow range of species, often genetically engineered with the grower's benefit in mind (not ours, and certainly not the environment's). These products are shipped, burning vast amounts of fossil fuels, halfway round the world in many cases. But the good news: non-sustainable practices are just that - nonsustainable: they have to give way to more balanced methods, and that is going to mean growing and using plants more locally, to fulfill local needs.
- sameerb, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1believe it or not, this plant is considered sacred in southern India and they even developed viagra substitute from it http://www.digg.com/health/Kerala_Herbal_Viagra_Ma ...
- DontEatTheFish, on 11/22/2007, -2/+2no, but Tommy Chong went to my high school!(not so much went.. but he was enrolled there)
look it up, Crescent Heights High School, Calgary, Alberta(Canada) - xsspider, on 11/23/2007, -0/+0The article says its from northern india but its really from southern india.
- parasitewasp, on 11/23/2007, -1/+1The pods, flowers, and leaves can be consumed but they taste horrible if you didn't grow up eating it. My wife wants me to plant one in our yard I can't stand even the smell.
- cherwilco, on 11/23/2007, -2/+2@NGliam
oh yeah I personally cant stand to look at genuinely happy people either! makes me sick - itanius, on 11/23/2007, -0/+0lmfao....the "developing world".....i didnt kno Mich Tech was included in this category
- hudef, on 11/22/2007, -2/+3GIS: Neem
- Scopitone, on 11/22/2007, -7/+6Hey guys, ohsin used to have this type of tree in his back yard and he made miniature models out of the very light yet quality wood.
- Ozbred, on 11/24/2007, -1/+0can go the other way as well. hard to soft or even hard to methadone or similar program on to pot or alcohol. And NO many aren't genuinely happy people anymore going down that track (or call it a gate if you want.) far from it
- sethisastud, on 11/22/2007, -2/+2Did a second grader write this?
NM...just saw it's a snow cow from Michigan Tech...It's gotta be hard typing with those pudgy fingers. - Pottersquash, on 11/23/2007, -3/+1this tree is proof that God does not exisit
- nVoy, on 11/22/2007, -6/+2That's what she said
- inactive, on 11/22/2007, -5/+2Because .gif breaks can even make a site that old look stunning //sarcasm
- KewlerKid3, on 11/22/2007, -11/+7I like yours better.
- inactive, on 11/22/2007, -7/+2sorry but trees that give us lotsa wood are way more useful
- NGliam, on 11/22/2007, -24/+9It's hilarious to watch it ruin someones life as they grow into their 30s.
