- reflex768, on 06/03/2008, -0/+16Is it a dupe? Damn. I even manually searched for it.
- groo68, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Did you search with digg or with google, cause digg search wont find anything close to what you want. type "site:digg.com" before your search to search only digg. you can replace that with any site.
- MoralThreat, on 06/03/2008, -7/+1Stop submitting them then.

- dmerc, on 06/03/2008, -18/+12Pretty dramatic.
- mikedoth, on 06/03/2008, -2/+3I say not enough.
- willk281, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Not so much. What is this crap you're trying to feed us here reflex? It's this kind of spam that is causing Digg to lose its value as a news site. http://exposingtheflock.blogspot.com/
- angryredplanet, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2I disagree. I think it's a great way to get a very important and timely point across. People need to dispose of their rubbish properly, everything as innocent as a cigarette butt to a chunk of plastic. Most of our ditched rubbish ends up in the oceans where it does a lot of damage that is not seen by anyone. It's presented in a way that is brief, concise and easy to understand without droning on about it.
This is not spam as it's not selling anything other than information. Your comment, however, is signed with a link, presumably back to your own blog. You realise that self promotion is a type of spam?

- Dylson, on 06/03/2008, -6/+59I can't stand jellyfish.
- leerayIG88, on 06/03/2008, -6/+2you just gotta catch them with a jellyfish net says spongebob.
- emeraldclaw4, on 06/03/2008, -1/+9I live near the beach and haven't been there in over 5 years because i hate jellyfish so much.. I got stung on my nipples once, I wasn't particularly thrilled by it.
- dorkino, on 06/03/2008, -0/+17Sounds kinky
- Navicerts, on 06/03/2008, -0/+7When i was a kid i would swim in the chesapeake bay and get stung a few times a week on average. quickest relief is to swim to shore and rub sand on the sting to stop it from stinging you further (it just helps remove the leftover tentacles). don't worry about the palm of your hand when doing this - you cant be stung there (although it might get you in between the fingers a little if you are sensitive).
all that said; this had nothing to do with the picture.- michaelb1, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1I used to get stung 8 or 9 times everytime I would do surfing in Galveston. I got used to it.
These weren't man-o-wars or anything, just these round reddish little f**kers.
- michaelb1, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1I used to get stung 8 or 9 times everytime I would do surfing in Galveston. I got used to it.
- photokeith, on 06/03/2008, -0/+10Jellyfish can't stand.
- DemDude, on 06/03/2008, -1/+6Seriously, I hate them.
***** JELLYFISH! - MrBobyMan, on 06/03/2008, -3/+0They are pretty interesting but the irukandji and box jellyfish can burn in hell for all I care.
I almost lost a good friend in Australia do to a supposed irukandji sting.
- adamlaz2, on 06/03/2008, -4/+213Does that "Battery" look like a Keystone Light can to anyone else??
- drastik21, on 06/03/2008, -6/+20Keystone light that's 10X worse than a battery, I feel sorry for the fish.
- lukemandese, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I'd rather drink battery acid than that *****
- Mard, on 06/03/2008, -10/+6You've had one too many drinks pal. It's time to call it a night.
- skidooer, on 06/03/2008, -3/+5Yes. I also thought it was a beer can until I took a closer look at it.
- GorfTron, on 06/03/2008, -2/+25Have I been drinking batteries???
- chrisj33, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3Nah, just ***** beer
- aaronandwine, on 06/03/2008, -1/+3I keep going back and looking at it and it still looks like a Keystone can. What kind of battery is that?
- DoTheFandango, on 06/03/2008, -1/+11I can guarantee that the item pictured is a Keystone Light can. How do I know? I go to college.
- pdt4life, on 06/03/2008, -2/+0amen
- lolwutpear, on 06/03/2008, -1/+19It's a battery for college students.
- mhunter2, on 06/04/2008, -2/+3That is 100% a Keystone Light can there is no doubt.
(I'm in College, believe me) - Iluvator, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Yes that was my first thought
No that's not what it is
Maybe this confirms my theory that Keystone Light is mostly battery acid. - thacked, on 06/04/2008, -0/+0It is not a beer can. I, too, am in college and I can recognize that as a battery. It has a terminal on the left end, and the letters "igh" probably come from "High Power" or some other phrase on the non-alkaline cell...NOT "Keystone Light."
- knarg, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1BITTER BEER FACE!?!?!1
- drastik21, on 06/03/2008, -6/+20Keystone light that's 10X worse than a battery, I feel sorry for the fish.
- D3ADBOLT, on 06/03/2008, -24/+5Let me guess, there's some non-existent floating island of trash in the Mediterranean too?
- D0m0kun, on 06/03/2008, -0/+13Is it really all that hard to believe that with all the trash we produce that a percentage of it ends up in the oceans? It's really not complicated. And it's not a conspiracy.
- D3ADBOLT, on 06/03/2008, -8/+1Yes it is hard to believe that somewhere in the ocean is a floating, continent-sized garbage heap that no one has taken a picture of

None of this is a "Floating toxic plastic garbage island twice the size of Texas", its little bits of plastic that gather in the ocean currents.
Even your little video says that people try and pass it off as hyperbole, THAT'S ALL IT IS.
Tell you what, when you can show me a Google picture of a floating island of plastic doom, maybe then I'll give a rats ass....Maybe - Gravey9, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2you are a moron there is no "island." There's no stationary blob in the middle of the ocean you can see you ***** tard do you research before you bitch.
here I'll make it easy for you as you failed to read the video post.

watch ALL of them especially part 10.
God you really are a bolt. - D3ADBOLT, on 06/04/2008, -2/+1Hey ***** face, my original point still stands, there's no such thing as a continent-sized floating island of garbage.
- Gravey9, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Then stop asking for pics. "***** face" haha what are you 12?

- solarweasel, on 06/03/2008, -5/+286Last time I was at the beach I swam with a school of condom-fish.
- Jist, on 06/03/2008, -7/+8Did they impregnate you too?
- iiBeLiEvE, on 06/04/2008, -0/+6Do you know what a condom is?
- H1tchh1k3r, on 06/03/2008, -6/+2You gotta watch those condom fish, they're kinda snappy.
Plus, when you eat em, they sometimes have some big bones inside.- teh_techie, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3It's actually the small bones you gotta watch out for!
- Shawn4168, on 06/03/2008, -0/+4Gross.
- spuddly, on 06/03/2008, -1/+8Ya I caught a 6-pound black knobbler the other day. It was at least a foot long.
- mydigga, on 06/03/2008, -1/+21I didn't get to see any condom fish last time I was at the beach. They weren't allowed out because the sanitary pad fish was in town :(
- recruz, on 06/03/2008, -2/+2this is the most disgusting thread i've read in some time ... keep it "coming" ... ?
- mockupscaledown, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3That would be called the "Coney Island Whitefish"

- CrackyJSquirrel, on 06/03/2008, -5/+143You know for a discarded "sanitary pad" it looks quite clean..
- Narcism, on 06/03/2008, -2/+33Yeah, and those condoms, once untied, are still usable.
- DalamarArgent, on 06/03/2008, -1/+12BAD IMAGE
- patho, on 06/03/2008, -0/+4It's a trap!
- Psalm, on 06/03/2008, -1/+50I'm sure the Sanitary Pad is the only one that actually smells like a fish though.

- Owned1Up, on 06/03/2008, -11/+2my balls hurt
- CrazedLeper, on 06/03/2008, -0/+10Have the third one removed. It's actually an egg laid there by a rare species of spider called the "nut dweller".
- Narcism, on 06/03/2008, -17/+1Took me a while to figure out they were all shaped like fish.
- computerusr, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1I didn't realize that till you said it.
- bag2p, on 06/03/2008, -15/+6I think i'm more worried about a real shark, than a glass bottle shark.
- Supurcell, on 06/03/2008, -0/+4More people have been seriously injured by glass bottles than by sharks.
- Hefelumpman, on 06/03/2008, -9/+37It's disgusting how much of our refuse ends up in the ocean, and how long it takes to decompose/disintegrate.
- Peetweefish, on 06/03/2008, -5/+8It's disgusting how much of our oral refuse ends up on Digg.
Save the interwebz!!! - Navicerts, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2yea, it takes about 4 or 5 years for trash on the shore to make it's way out to eh gyre's (sp?)
- Peetweefish, on 06/03/2008, -5/+8It's disgusting how much of our oral refuse ends up on Digg.
- aenima987, on 06/03/2008, -5/+76Headcrabs are way worse.
- AUniquePerson, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1But they can't swim...... right? Oh *****...
- stealthc, on 06/03/2008, -17/+11If you are one of those people who thinks humans are inherently poisonous to the earth, I recommend you adopt the strategy at the following link and get as many of your environmentalist friends to join you.
http://www.vhemt.org
I won't participate, but I wish you nothing but the greatest success.- ahawks, on 06/03/2008, -2/+15If you think the only 2 options are "produce millions of tons of disposable ***** and throw it in the ocean" and human extinction, perhaps you SHOULD join their movement.
- falkonv7l, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2One way or another, something is going to happen, it appears that "ignorance is bliss" is the current path humans are going down.
Personally I don't want kids and I rather like my freedom and extra funds, thats just me. - Escapade, on 06/03/2008, -2/+1your vhemt theory will only work if the people like you are gone first, not the environmentalists.
- Pstmann, on 06/03/2008, -1/+2Pussy!
- CrazedLeper, on 06/03/2008, -6/+23I knew before I clicked that it would be us.
- destron, on 06/03/2008, -3/+129Interestingly enough, most of these items are recyclable.
- chikuten, on 06/03/2008, -10/+4more than half the people who check this digg out aren't smart enough to do so
- liquidpele, on 06/03/2008, -1/+14And some of it is overly dramatic. Aluminum cans? Cigarette buds? Those are elements you find all around the world, and the descriptions of why there were bad were far fetched. A piece of drift wood could do the same damage as a some of the problems cited. The plastics I admit are a problem though, as they tend to float and are more easily ingested by marine life.
- Navicerts, on 06/03/2008, -1/+1tin cans are fairly harmless, the larger crime is that they were not recycled and the process of making more causes more pollution than recycling?
- mstrebe, on 06/03/2008, -1/+5Yeah, those condoms look perfectly good.
- MuskokasFinest, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Recyclable, not reusable...
- MarkDenali, on 06/03/2008, -11/+22Beautifully designed and powerful.
- ryancalderoni, on 06/03/2008, -5/+9to avoid serious digestion problems, do not ingest any of these organisms
- Ursapater, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1I will be sure to put up signs for all the marine life not to do that
- asalim6, on 06/03/2008, -13/+13beer caps, beer cans, cigs, and condoms...heaven. thank you for showing me where the party is at.
- palmer, on 06/03/2008, -7/+3"where the party is at."
What is the "at" doing at the end of that sentence?
- palmer, on 06/03/2008, -7/+3"where the party is at."
- Elliottx, on 06/03/2008, -24/+11Oh for the love of christ. Go away nature lovers. The ocean is big, big enough for me to throw my cans into it. (Yes, i do that. I also stick electric cables into koi ponds for funsies)
- halobender, on 06/03/2008, -2/+6I think you're joking but FU if you're not.
I'm so tired of all the stupid Americans taking over our country.- Carl306, on 06/03/2008, -2/+5You're sick of the Americans for taking over America?
- elementop, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2I think he meant he is tired of stupid people taking over America, or at least, that's what I *hope* he meant. Unfortunately, his choice of wording points him towards said group of people...
- Devotia, on 06/03/2008, -0/+5Maybe he's Sioux?
- teh_techie, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3Keyword in his comment was "stupid". Why'd you not catch that?
- BoonTobias, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1the pronounciation for sioux is so funny i had to laf when my 8th grade teacher said it
- Elliottx, on 06/03/2008, -4/+3I live in England. I also smash manatees with my jet ski and pull fish out of the water and leave them to flop around on the floor gasping for air. :O :l :O :l :O :l :o :[
- skidooer, on 06/03/2008, -1/+2I hate it when the people of a given country take over said country as well. Oh wait...
- Rekutyn, on 06/03/2008, -2/+1You're from Iraq?
- slvrbullet87, on 06/03/2008, -1/+1I am sure it is the Americans who are causing the problems in the Mediterranean. Seriously we are so close to it
- Carl306, on 06/03/2008, -2/+5You're sick of the Americans for taking over America?
- SQLserver, on 06/03/2008, -1/+3You really are that stupid, aren't you?
- Elliottx, on 06/03/2008, -1/+2Sure looks like it. ;)
- halobender, on 06/03/2008, -2/+6I think you're joking but FU if you're not.
- xero69, on 06/03/2008, -12/+10but fish like plastic bottles and cigarette butts, they need something to play with out there in the middle of the ocean
- starmanfalls, on 06/04/2008, -0/+0That's ***** funny.
- Brownds, on 06/03/2008, -16/+6Buried because I can't trash Americans for this 8(...
/sarcasm - bhuppz, on 06/03/2008, -7/+2Good One
- flogistan, on 06/03/2008, -6/+408I am a marine biologist. Those were not sea creatures. It was just a ***** of garbage.
- Mard, on 06/03/2008, -0/+72Your comment should be republished in Nature.
- blackgt93, on 06/03/2008, -1/+7I dunno, I think we need to consult the scientists who conducted the "Food looks good when you're hungry" study for the results to be really conclusive.
- bsdrocker, on 06/03/2008, -0/+36Let me guess - your name is also Art Vandeley
- buxmeister, on 06/03/2008, -0/+8I didn't see any golf balls on the poster
- mstrebe, on 06/03/2008, -11/+4Please GOD make an Environment topic so all this crap can't keep polluting the "science" thread
- TyPhyter, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5please GOD let "this" moron discover the wonders of the filter, and realize that this is environmental SCIENCE.
- talonstriker, on 06/03/2008, -0/+5You just made your alma mater proud!
- mgill3, on 06/03/2008, -7/+0I'm no marine biologist, and I even knew they weren't sea creatures!
- EwMo, on 06/04/2008, -1/+1You win epic comment of the day.
So simple, yet so... brilliant
- RobotKeaton, on 06/03/2008, -2/+45What do they expect? We need to avenge Steve Irwin somehow.
- Joomal, on 06/03/2008, -5/+12I want to be a bottle - avg lifespan: thousands of years.
- Soval, on 06/03/2008, -0/+9And everybody gets to suck on you.
- saigumi, on 06/03/2008, -2/+2Even worse are all those rocks at the bottom of the ocean scraping across habitats. They have a lifespan of thousands of years as well. Someone think of the animals and get all the pebbles out of our oceans!
- ep53, on 06/03/2008, -0/+9I wanna be a condom, and spend 15 mins inside a vagina then the other 30 years floating in the sea, with other seamen.
- ligyron, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2Sanitary pad will give you more time with the vagina at the cost of less time at sea
- ep53, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1Ah but mine will be inside the vagina,
- ligyron, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2Sanitary pad will give you more time with the vagina at the cost of less time at sea
- knoxchris, on 06/03/2008, -7/+1Like the idea but... but does a "certain sea creature" feast on paper bags or something?
- blackgt93, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2Neptune's retarded cousin perhaps?
- pe5t1lence, on 06/03/2008, -3/+151This is why I don't use condoms!
- AnarkeIncarnate, on 06/03/2008, -4/+19Virginity paid off for you, eh?
- MiamiRox, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5This is also why you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes and a slight touch of syphilis.
Hope it was worth it! :)- iziizi, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2and cat aids. Dont forget the cat aids.
- MiamiRox, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5This is also why you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes and a slight touch of syphilis.
- AnarkeIncarnate, on 06/03/2008, -4/+19Virginity paid off for you, eh?
- Ph0biA, on 06/03/2008, -11/+5I see what you did there.
- ventralnet, on 06/03/2008, -1/+13does anyone actually tie their condoms into little knots like you are supposed to?
- Teh1337Pirate, on 06/03/2008, -1/+5yes
- ligyron, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2They say you should tie a knot and throw it in the garbage, but I imagine most people flush it. Who wants evidence lying around?
- AnarkeIncarnate, on 06/03/2008, -2/+1where's pedobear when you need him (after comments like that)?
- ligyron, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2Actually I was thinking more along the lines of adultery
But the fact that that's the first thing that came into your mind is kind of creepy. You poor virgin, you have so much to learn about the world - AnarkeIncarnate, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Yes, my poor poor virgin self........and my pregnant wife will somehow get over the stigma of somebody on the internet calling me a virgin.
- ligyron, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2Actually I was thinking more along the lines of adultery
- AnarkeIncarnate, on 06/03/2008, -2/+1where's pedobear when you need him (after comments like that)?
- gmiley, on 06/03/2008, -4/+4I usually just toss them on the bitches floor or tuck it under her pillow when I'm done.
- DownkeyKowng, on 06/03/2008, -0/+5Hell yea bro! or just leave it up in her! UUUHHNG!
- ventralnet, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2gotta fling it on the wall so it sticks
- jarjarwang, on 06/03/2008, -0/+12Why does the soda can last 500 years, but other aluminum items only 10?
- ryanarchy, on 06/03/2008, -0/+20Aluminum cans have a plastic lining on the inside that prevents sodas and other caustic materials from eating through them.
- Shawn4168, on 06/03/2008, -0/+9The More You Know...
- pe5t1lence, on 06/03/2008, -1/+2Then shouldn't a scratch in this coating allow for it to degrade at the normal level?
- EwMo, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1it would then have a tiny surface area to volume ratio and it wouldn't make much of a difference. If the scratch expanded, then it MIGHT, however.
- pe5t1lence, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1OH! So how about this for a cool experiment then:
*Take an FULL Soda can
*Use a nail or wire brush to score the outside, allowing an area for oxidation to occur
*Don't touch it.
Maybe the plastic shell filled with soda will be all that left in a few decades.
Ok, so i thinks its cool. Like when you dissolve an egg shell of a raw egg and are left with just the fluid filled amniotic sac.
- ryanarchy, on 06/03/2008, -0/+20Aluminum cans have a plastic lining on the inside that prevents sodas and other caustic materials from eating through them.
- StacyWebb, on 06/03/2008, -5/+16What no mention of "Fat Hairy Guy in Thong"?
- Mr.Gone, on 06/03/2008, -11/+6How can this be "powerful" or "dramatic"? Maybe if the people viewing it think that every little thing is dramatic. Why would I want to save a planet that at every turn is trying to kill me. Examples? The Seaphu, ants capable of killing a full grown man. The box jelly, a 50 cent piece sized jelly fish that can kill an adult human. This planet keeps coming up with more creative and bizarre ways to shorten my life I say we have to kick it's ass before it kicks ours!
On an aside have you seen the plastic island in the Pacific? That's pretty sad.- ahawks, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2I've heard of the plastic island. ..
But I just went to google to find images, and found http://www.plasticisland.net/
Which... I'm totally confused right now, but it looks like a line of women's fashion?
- ahawks, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2I've heard of the plastic island. ..
- MerryMortician, on 06/03/2008, -4/+3food wrappers are good with butter sauce.
- bossm4n, on 06/03/2008, -2/+116How is it that those white plastic grocery bags last 30-60 years in the ocean when I can't even make it from my car to the house without them disintegrating.
- flashingcurser, on 06/03/2008, -1/+9Ultraviolet light and oxygen break down the bags. 10 feet below the surface there would be considerably less of both, though I doubt that that would translate into decades.
- Darakiss, on 06/03/2008, -3/+4because bags have a maximum capacity u must not be aware of

- jaredcat, on 06/03/2008, -8/+3I think this is really good news. I had thought that much of this stuff would last for thousands of years. 5, 10, even 500 years is not even a blink of an eye for Earth's ecosystem. Just imagine if the dinosaurs were using batteries and plastic bottles; it wouldn't have changed anything for us millions of year later, would it?
- jedimasta, on 06/03/2008, -12/+7I'm all for keeping the planet clean, recycling, etc..., but these advertisements are over the top alarmist. Sure, if ingested any of these things would clearly be harmful to whatever consumed it, but animals ARENT that dumb. This trash needs to stay out of the ocean, but fish and really any living creature has thousands of years of evolution telling them what and what not to eat. Ever tried to give a dog a pill wrapped in cheese or meat? They're pretty dumb animals, but they know somethin aint right about what yer givin em.
Some clown fish isn't just gonna come along and eat a plastic bag.- NJank, on 06/03/2008, -1/+7plastics are shredded/broken down overtime into tiny pieces (dust-like). These are consumed inadvertently by marine life. we then consume them, etc., etc.
- monoa, on 06/03/2008, -1/+5Next time you feel the need to share your wisdom, spend 60 seconds searching to make sure it's not actually just stupidity:

- LoneJeeper, on 06/03/2008, -12/+12can't we just stop fish from eating garbage? That seems like the easier solution.
- J4k3, on 06/03/2008, -8/+2Or we could just stop throwing our ***** in the ocean. How about that?
- LoneJeeper, on 06/03/2008, -1/+6.... sarcasm....

Regarding the giant garbage patch in the middle of the Pacfic.. swirling around eating random ships and small islands...- Saikou, on 06/03/2008, -1/+5I am all for keeping our oceans clean, but this kind of over the top padding of the lifespan of these materials actually undermines our environmental protection argument. Bottle caps do not last 300 years in an ocean environment. Old bottle caps rust away and even aluminum ones are subject to galvanic corrosion. Glass when subject to wave action breaks into smaller and smaller pieces, and the sharp edges are the first to go. It is not like glass will be sharp enough to cut things for thousands of years. Glass is made of sand, for goodness sakes. Plastics are a real problem, because they do last a long time and some marine life eats it, but the other things are padded to make them seem nearly indestructible. Give us real numbers and talk about the amazing amount of garbage that finds its way into the ocean each day for a given area. That is more useful information that silly assertions of cigarette butts lasting 10 year and glass lasting 1000’s
- wrathofg0d, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2Really well done, I love it. Props to whoever made this.
- otbeverly, on 06/03/2008, -0/+0So I can use cans of Bud Light as batteries? ... I think they were stretching on that one.
- WhiteMike87, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1well the animals shouldn't be stupid enough to eat them. we have to let them figure it out themselves, just like we had to...some of us had a rough childhood...
- MaxIsBored, on 06/03/2008, -1/+1How are fish supposed to party without all our cigs, beer and condoms?
