Stunning Recycled Jewlery from phone cards, bottles, etc.
inhabitat.com — We first discovered the stunning recycled jewelry of MANA back in January. Brazilian eco designer Mana Bernardes works with a collective of young women in Rio De Janeiro to refashion bits of urban detritus - plastic bottles, circuit boards, hairpins, phone-cards - into gorgeously thought-provoking jewelry.

- Narcism, on 05/20/2008, -7/+2Well, I had my comment prewritten out before I RTA, I imagined that the jewelry was actually gonna look like *****. Turns out it doesn't. I'm impressed.
- realveronica, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1jewelery.
- matschig, on 05/20/2008, -2/+2Dugg for use of the word 'detritus'.
- ptxyz, on 05/20/2008, -1/+8... creative... but ... not stunning ...
- RioMo, on 05/20/2008, -3/+7Don't forget the "stunning" misspelling of the word jewlery. That ALWAYS gives credibility to a story!
- chanop, on 05/20/2008, -3/+1Will you proof-read my essays for me?
- drkmccrthy, on 05/20/2008, -2/+2jewlery is like celery but with a yamika
- Olegovich, on 05/20/2008, -4/+4My girlfriend would definitely not put out if I gave her that garbage for our anniversary...
- Dave1337, on 05/20/2008, -3/+1anniversary.... em, should she not be your wife then
- Olegovich, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3Spoken by someone who's apparently never had a girlfriend...
- djdole, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1Anniversary - "the date on which an event occurred in some previous year (or the celebration of it)"

I see no mention of marriage there.
(Things girls like to romantically celebrate: First kiss, first date, first dance, first _____ )
- lacr, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1Maybe you should shouldn't think about giving her presents just so she'd "put out". She's your girlfriend, you should speak of her a little nicely don't you think?
- Olegovich, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1What are you talking about? Smack that ho and send her back to the kitchen! :D
- nvillalobos, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1Yea, I'm with lacr on this one.

- drkmccrthy, on 05/20/2008, -5/+4buried as inaccurate, I was expecting jewelry made from other jewelry :(
title should be "turn junk into junky jewelry"- Narcism, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3y'know, the title isn't really that ambiguous...
- drkmccrthy, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1are recycled bottles made out of credit cards?
- Narcism, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3y'know, the title isn't really that ambiguous...

- djdole, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2I sense a soul in search of answers.
- Michelldefrei, on 09/17/2008, -0/+0I liked it too I found some mana jewellery at this website http://www.muniquefashions.com
- removesstains, on 05/20/2008, -2/+87 different pieces of jewelry and they look average at best plus pretty much all look the same. Lame.
- tak84, on 05/20/2008, -1/+4Looks like trash.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=_0719DxMOUY - mstoneburner, on 05/20/2008, -1/+6That's not "stunning" at all. Writer is too easily impressed.
- blitzkriegpunk, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1Mmmmm... freckles.
- DramaStix, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1It's a specific aesthetic. I've seen similar stuff sell for a lot of money (mostly to older professor-of-poetry types) at the art jewelry stores in my hometown. Props to Mana for trying to provide employment/opportunities for recycling.

- zaphodfl, on 05/20/2008, -1/+4Not all that stunning... not even the chicks.
- Trav3133, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1I am stunned.
- Norma156, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3Some good design, but not stunning. Some of it looks flimsy, a wearable problem.
- bonds, on 05/20/2008, -1/+4It's.....stunning......that this submission made it to the front page.
- djdole, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Stunned as I was the first time I saw fear-factor.
//Not a good thing - vikki77, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3I liked the jewelry. It's not something I would wear, but as art it's pretty. It was definitely not what I expected, but the first one was not made with all recycled materials. Those hair pins are brand new; the plastic tips on them are in perfect condition.
- Plastic3D, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1I hear you on the hair pins.. and for a production environment they would need Billions of "used" hair pins to make a million necklaces.

- LordMonboddo, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1*Recycled* hairpins? Looked pretty new to me.
Designer: "Yeah, they came with this piece of cardboard that I bought at Sally Beauty." - username484767, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1not really "stunny" just sorta *****
- LordMonboddo, on 05/20/2008, -3/+1BTW, would you jackasses please refrain from generalizing "what girls like to..."? It makes you sound like boys who... don't know girls.
- nvillalobos, on 05/20/2008, -2/+1Word.
- lacr, on 05/20/2008, -0/+0As art, it's really pretty. I wouldn't wear it though.
- flink405, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1Cool looking art made from recycled crushed cans here:
http://toontoonz.com/canart/canartmain.html - andretii, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2garbage only looks good from the distance
- gkiltz, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0Assuming you like silly, pre-adolescent's jewelry!
- joecarolo, on 07/14/2008, -0/+0We went to LA and found a great gallery with recycled jewelry from old tires. Sound gross but it was very kool. Stuff is from Brazil. We ended up buying rings (one for me and one for my now fiancee!) made by Todd Reed of 18K recycled gold at Altered Space on Abbot Kinney Blvd (hands down the best area in LA). We want to plug this store as they were really on top of things and we actually had a good time while shopping there. Their website is http://www.AlteredSpaceGallery.com. Check em out. Joe C., NYC
- SA007, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Lol, Jewlery is expensive as *****!
http://thejewelryplacenow.com/ - SunAlex, on 08/30/2008, -0/+0of course nice, but not at all stunning.
