- lilhelper, on 04/01/2009, -0/+6100 million is definitely not enough.
- williepepper, on 04/01/2009, -1/+6Well sh**, I'm just gonna put 'em on the card, paper my roof wit 'em, and wait for the next governmnent rescue package!!

- jander99, on 04/01/2009, -0/+3Great to see people investing in solar power. The more people invest, the better the technology gets, and the cheaper everything becomes. Solar already comes as cheaply as coal, unfortunately we just don't have the capacity to store solar energy at night to really combat coal technology.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -0/+3What?
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2Well, he spelled efficient right. *shrugs*
- diggydougie, on 04/01/2009, -0/+2This is the way to go. The reason that I haven't gone solar or wind powered is the high up-front cost.
- BrutePhysics, on 04/01/2009, -2/+3This is awesome!
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1Sorry, this stupid comment was not made by me.
- mikemehak, on 04/01/2009, -1/+2I have been using solar power for the last 20 years easily. Not once was I offered grants, etc...
I started off small. Primarily my calculator. But as I grew older I invested in solar powered moon lights as well as several more solar powered calculators. - tordon, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1Solar Power is only just getting started I believe the next economic boom will see a great shift to Solar Energy.
http://solarphotovoltaicproducts.com/store/ - mikemehak, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1I seriously looked into going solar but it's out my price range even with the great govn't programs we have here in Ontario.
I priced a wind generator and I was looking at a $20,000 minimum investment just to start. And it wouldn't even power my house, let alone the entire farm. And I'm in a high wind area.
I would however consider doing a solar powered pool heater. I think I could piece most of it together for cheap. - pumanegra2012, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1The slowdown has hit us really hard
- enantiodromia, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1/me is happy he is still in the tech industry
- someguy92, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1Solar (photovoltaic) panels are NOT cheap for the amount of power they generate. Also, the manufacturing process isn't particularly eco-friendly.
Wind energy is much cheaper, more consistent throughout the day, and can be applied cost-effectively in many different geographic regions.
"The more people invest, the better the technology gets"
-- Plain old silicon photovoltaic cells can't be improved much. With the thickness of the silicon wafer optimized to reduce electron-hole recombination, there's not much more that can be done. While recent advancements to alternative photovoltaics, such as gratzel cells and thin films, have proven that solar cells can be made cheaply, they have yet to match or beat the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of silicon. Very little, if any, of this money is even going towards researching alternative photovoltaics anyway. - atarijedi, on 04/01/2009, -0/+0I'm thinking that a stirling engine with a solar concentrator would probably work better.
- MartinusV, on 07/02/2009, -0/+0This is really good. Many of the major solar projects that we have heard about for the past few years have been put on hold due to the recession. I'm glad to hear that new money is being put into solar again.
- armakaryk, on 04/01/2009, -3/+3here ladies and gentlemen we have the obvious troll. these are quite common on our internet safari. the obvious troll is generally a solitary creature, but they have been known to operate in packs when the situation calls for it. obvious trolls are by nature rather easy to spot, they will appear in a normal sensible internet conversation and make poorly worded non sequiturs designed to provoke anger from the internet user. the best defense against the obvious troll is to simply ignore it, without emotion to feed on the troll will either die out or move on.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1Kip? As in Mudkips? ROFL OMG LOL
- gaiserrc, on 04/01/2009, -1/+1With all this April fools stuff going on, at first glance that title made me laugh a little. Panels... p#$@s
- syntaxgs, on 04/01/2009, -6/+4thios a bit alarm-,ist becaosue solar power not really the solutions to our problem we need clean coal and efficient oil burns like car ngine =P
