- allaboutdatiki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11This is very very cool. And to think that I spend ten minutes of my day, scurrying about the house, opening and closing the shades by hand ... :)
- MerryMortician, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Is the server shading itself from Digg too?
I'll wait for a mirror. - crimson117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6By the time you finished adjusting all the shades in a large building, the sun would have changed position and your shades would need to be adjusted again.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Regardless of whether building Green is too expensive or not, Green buildings are pretty damned cool in design and function.
- sivsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Dang, this institute kicks arse!
- zomgz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5something needs to be implemented already for pictures im soooo sick of clickin a story link and gettin a 404 ;/

- JerodSlay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Check out the Cal Trans building, too. It was built a few years ago before the green movement got underway, but it's got a similar system to shade it from the sun. It also has flushless urinals.
- froman98, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Now only if they had shades that could automatically shut when my neighbor across the street decides to do his naked aerobics. I can not stand to eat JELLO because of him any more.
- KKat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The Shure building in Niles, IL, does the same thing, but with metal internal blinds. It's funny because they all adjust infinitesimally at once, so as you walk by the entire wall will suddenly make a loud rasp of a thousand little chains clicking over one notch. Scares the new people. :)
The entire building is metal, glass, and concrete. Parts are beautiful and other parts like a parking garage, but the overall effect is brilliant. There is also a large metal sunshade that extends vertically along one side of the building, as well as the usual horizonal shades. It's by far both the most glass-intense and least solar-overheated building I've worked in. - RooDoG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well played

Think of it like thousand of camera apertures opening and closing independently, that is until it broke and now barely works at all. Also one of the most expensive buildings of its time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_World_Institute - CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1probably the same people that write them.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1did anyone else think of hundreds of verticle blinds going up and down all day like i did.
- TWINFM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It looks a little like a new-fangled modernized version of an old factory, with future shades
- t1m0j5, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2mirror needed ....
- trollick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Solar building" shades itself from the sun? That does not make any sense. It should be called a "shadow building" or something then.
- eloquator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0"Our blinds will blot out the sun!"
"Then we will fight in the shade!" - DevCo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0A 70's era building in Martinez, CA used by Contra Costa, CO does the same thing, it works fine, they move very slowly.

- darny, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1"very green" building? buried right off its very green ass.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1NSFW, ad on right showed bare ass with a smiley face on it. :(
- imacashew, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2dugg for the ad with nude woman ass on the right.
- icefox2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1We have this on our building, but the damm thing can't make up its mind. It opens and closes at completely random times. It makes no sense what so ever. We ended up installing blinds inside of all our windows so that we can close them when the sun is really bright and they decide to be open.
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Arse... shaded arse.....
- ribo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0AMAZING!
My house does this too! Shades me AUTOMATICALLY. I even have a large brim hat that does it too, and a tent!

What is Digg?
