- ChronicColonic, on 11/03/2009, -3/+17There can be only one Greenfyre. Good start, but you need to start of by saying something like 'Rotfl - any eight year old can use a search engine to find out this important information.' You also need more links like this:

http://www.buyCFLsordie.org - jeffbw, on 11/03/2009, -5/+13Duly dugg down, drooling *****. Glaciers are in massive retreat absolutely everywhere on the planet. The question after the Himalayan ice packs have finished melting is going to be, where are all the billions of people whose lives depend on the Me Kong, the Brahmaputra, the Indus, the Ganges, and the Yangtze going to be getting their water from.

The bottom line is, whatever the hell your motivation is, you aren't being a whole lot of help, you evil piece of filth. Fold the ego up and start learning something about the world you live on. - CaptCarrot, on 11/03/2009, -2/+10Shorter, twitter-like introductions, more links. But not a bad first effort.
- novenator, on 11/03/2009, -16/+24I have serious doubts about the credibility of your source. It looks all official and scientific-appearing, but the articles seem to be designed to refute the truth on climate change.
For instance: "the claim of consensus [about scientists saying man-made climate change is real] is fake, designed to stampede you into actions that will cripple our economy, and which you will regret for many years." http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/02/160-physicis ...
This blog has the feel of a slickly designed piece of big oil or right wing propaganda. The fact is there IS a scientific consensus that anthropogenic climate change is a reality. One survey found 97% of the worlds publishing climatologists agree on this. 97%! I trust the scientists. http://scienceblogs.com/deltoid/2009/01/97_of_acti ... - Math, on 11/03/2009, -9/+16If you bothered to read the links mentioned in your article you would notice that they say that the melting glaciers are caused by a combination of deforestation and global warming.
- PhoenixTx, on 11/03/2009, -2/+8@Chronic LMFAO!!! Classic!
- namslam, on 11/02/2009, -10/+16it's sad, but nobody will really "care" about the earth until the entire mountain is melted.
- Math, on 11/03/2009, -2/+8Sun spots occur in a predictable ~11 year cycle and solar activity can be directly measured.
Current warming trends cannot be accounted for by changes in solar activity. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/03/2009, -6/+10Yeah! And that the same thing is happening to the polar icecaps as well as glaciers in Greenland and Europe is all just a TOTAL COINCIDENCE! People think that when it gets warm ice melts, but that's just STUPID. There must be some global conspiracy of evil, greedy scientists trying to sell us solar panels. Yeah, that makes WAY more sense!
/s - perryc, on 11/03/2009, -12/+16That guy, Al Gore - or whatever his name was - wasn't talking *****...
- Math, on 11/03/2009, -2/+6You should actually read those articles that you mentioned.
I noticed that you didn't even include a link, probably because they actually contradict your argument:
http://www.geo.umass.edu/climate/tanzania/pubs/moe ...
From the very last line of the paper :
"However, if atmosphere-ocean dynamics over the Indian Ocean become increasingly favorable to moist conditions in East Africa in the 21st century, as simulated by GCMs in response to future warming (Vecchi and Soden 2007), monitoring glacier behavior on Kilimanjaro could provide a further key to understanding implications of large-scale climate change for regional climate change in the tropics at high altitude." - Mercedes383, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5Well, perhaps not. The local climate around the mountain is a lot drier now which reduces snowfall and also causes sublimation of the ice. There have been studies of the area that much of this is caused by extensive deforestation mostly for farming. Less forests means far less evaporation, which in turn supplies less water vapour for cloud formation.
I'm not saying this is the sole cause, but just that it is recognised as having a significant impact on the mountain.
To me this further indicates that our actions often have far further reaching implications than we often appreciate.
I can't be buggered digging up the links for this, I'm about to go to work, but Google is your friend.
- fatherdoom, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3By far the dumbest post. Congrats. I wish I had some award to give you.
- Fitjarald, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3douche.....
- cuervoman914, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2thank you, thank you. i'll be here all week
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/03/2009, -9/+10When Florida's cost finally slips under the ocean it will be too late to prevent some of the most devastating consequences of global warming, and people will look to science and ask, "Why did none of you do anything to prevent this!?" and the scientific community will simply reply, "You didn't listen."
This, along so many other similar events happening the world RIGHT NOW, is just the tip of the iceberg that will have our children's children asking us what an iceberg was. - EddiePotato, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2Believe me, your spammer account will not last long!
- jp2535, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1they could have some spots of clean drinkable water, but its too overpopulated
- fatherdoom, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2They already did it. Its called Encino Man, and it sucked.
- Fustigations, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1I actually agree that people tend to jump to the wrong conclusions and go off the deep end. The proper scientific conclusions in this case have little to do with global warming. This does not mean that global warming does not exist. It's just an unrelated case study. This hampers education and feeds sensationalistic ***** to the populace to cloud reality. I know it doesn't make for good tv, but the best thing we can do for ourselves right now is to go cold turkey on all the stupid drama.
- cuervoman914, on 11/03/2009, -2/+2ok, im gonna be the douche in this thread, but....The Ohio State University, not Ohio State University.
- Fustigations, on 11/03/2009, -0/+0I realize this, but in the spirit of the apocalypse, it doesn't matter if you have an 8 car garage if the world is doomed. So all that money and wealth you just stole from the guy who ***** up the world is just as useful as a handful of *****.
Greed sucks like the vacuum of deep space. - digitalArtform, on 11/03/2009, -2/+2Agh! Dugg down in the prime of life by someone who wishes he had thought of it first.
:( - digitalArtform, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1Well I didn't literally mean poo *****. They can keep that, still.
- garyi113, on 11/03/2009, -0/+0Why is this bad?
- Fustigations, on 11/03/2009, -0/+0Some points.
"conservatives" are not really conservatives any more.
Blame does not mean *****. Major damage having still taken place.
Taking their ***** will not help anyone. Even the people taking the *****, because it is just *****. - 100100, on 11/03/2009, -20/+20its BS...
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/02/oh-no-not-th ... - jp2535, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1If you dam a river and the slit can't flood out..........yes that happens. Hardly climate change though
- geopiscean, on 11/03/2009, -7/+6Another environmental disaster...
- dustblink, on 11/03/2009, -4/+3I always thought sun spots and solar activity had an more to do with the Earth's temperature than Co2.
- HappyScrappy, on 11/03/2009, -5/+4Kilimanjaro hasn't been receiving enough snowfall to maintain its snow cap for decades now. There's no known connection to human action in this, I don't think one is even suspected.
- iancgi, on 11/03/2009, -4/+2shhhhhh! they dont know that!
youll ruin everything! - dawnraid101, on 11/03/2009, -22/+19Please do not digg this sensationalised *****. If you actually had a look at the papers being discussed you would draw different conclusions than what the article is trying to offer.
For example read (If you have access to)
"Climate change and its impact on the forests of Kilimanjaro" Hemp, A. African Journal of Ecology 2009: 47(SUPPL. 1) 3-10 - 2009
"Quantifying climate change in the tropical midtroposphere over East Africa from glacier shrinkage on Kilimanjaro" Mölg, T. et al. Journal of Climate 2009: 22(15) 4162-4181
"Modern Glacier Retreat on Kilimanjaro as Evidence of Climate Change: Observations and Facts" International Journal of Climatology. Vol. 24, no. 3, 329 p. 15 Mar 2004.
Quoting from the latter, "Glacier retreat on Kilimanjaro is likely the result of a radical reduction in atmospheric moisture at the end of the 19th century and subsequently drier climatic conditions"
Not THE OMG ITS TEH CARBON LETS BUY GREEN SHOPPING BAGS. Go ahead digg me down. - Barackalypse, on 11/03/2009, -5/+1Great news since Africa has longer suffered due to lack of access to clean drinkable water, and water doesn't get much fresher than glacier water!
- AntithesisVI, on 11/03/2009, -6/+2The ocean levels have been rising and falling for BILLIONS of years. Now, in the last hundred, you think it is science's responsibility to stop it?
It's Florida's fault for making such a big deal out of beach front property, and if you don't want to be a victim, just move away.
The land area of the state of Texas is enough to afford every man, woman and child on the globe over 1,000 sq. ft. per individual, so don't tell me we don't have enough room and the world is overpopulated. It's just mismanaged, is all. - mwrl, on 11/03/2009, -7/+3um, it is spring in Africa. The snows should be melting duh.
- digitalArtform, on 11/03/2009, -6/+2Maybe something cool and long buried will be uncovered by the receding snow. I'll make it a plot point in a screenplay. :D
- partrow, on 11/03/2009, -5/+1Not the first time in history, and won't be the last. Happens every Spring.
Relax, and enjoy the interesting variabilities of nature. - digitalArtform, on 11/03/2009, -7/+3It's fine to let Conservatives have their way.
All we have to do is build in the Conservative values of Accountability and Consequences, so if they are wrong, they, and only they, are ruined.
Have your way, but if you are wrong we take all your *****. All of it. - Swillys, on 11/03/2009, -4/+0And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time...
- Militaris, on 11/03/2009, -6/+1Maybe the mountain should be moved to Antarctica, that should prevent the remaining glacier from melting.
- captininsanity, on 11/03/2009, -7/+2The snow can always fall again. If it's the sign that's needed then it's better that happen than to ruin the earth...
- Barackalypse, on 11/03/2009, -6/+1Are you really suggesting that starving women should not have 2.7 children? Racist! =)
- captininsanity, on 11/03/2009, -10/+2It's not BS. What that article is trying to say is that climate changes due to increased farming have caused less snow to fall on the mountain. That's fine and all, but that does not account for the reduction in ice. The long term portions of ice caps on mountains are not dependent on yearly snowfall. It's temperature they depend on...
- inactive, on 11/03/2009, -17/+1Good. I hate snow.
We already had some accumulation in ***** NY. Let's warm up the globe NOW.
