- oboy, on 03/18/2008, -2/+39Indonesia destroys 300 soccer fields worth of forest every hour.
EVERY HOUR!
There are only 4000 Java Gibbons left. Help raise awareness for the cause. Help because they're cute. Help because they have a name that makes you wonder if they can program. Just help.
This message brought to you by the Diggers for Java Gibbons foundation. - ipek, on 03/18/2008, -1/+32Wanna bet how many guys will think of something completely different when they'll read "Java"?
- saxreturns, on 03/18/2008, -0/+21Yeah, my first thought was 'Java gibbon = code monkey?'
- Flappy3, on 03/18/2008, -0/+15Code Monkeys?
- Protoss, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9Those Gibbons are so damn Gutsy!
- dvsbastard, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8It's not they are easy prey - it's just that no one likes a show off! :P
- jjustice, on 03/18/2008, -11/+19Are we talking about Sun Microsystems or Ubuntu? I'm confused.
- bromac, on 03/18/2008, -1/+9This forest is being decimated to feed a Palm Oil based biofuel economy.
I'm all for biofuels, but we need to wait until algae hydroponics is mature, instead of hacking down the forest that's left. It's one step forward, two steps back to hack and slash carbon sinks like the Borneo forests. In the end, it's all about selling another product for short term gain. Eventually, if we don't get our ***** together, we might not have a market to sell to. - eyloni, on 03/18/2008, -1/+9Acrobatics help them up on the tree not when they are on the ground. Unless juggling coconuts is good survival skill :)
- gtluke, on 03/18/2008, -0/+7they slash forrests in asia for wood to ship to california because california banned logging to save the spotted owl.
sounds fair - slvrbullet87, on 03/18/2008, -2/+9If they are acrobatic why are they easy prey on the ground?
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6System.exit(0);
- bromac, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6No, actually Canada provides more softwood for this. They slash the forests to make way for massive palm oil plantations to feed the biofuel economy.
Lets use biofuel to stop global warming...by burning the carbon sinks that are keeping at bay. - searcade, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Il adopt one and il feed it and everything! i could start a whole new gibbons family!
- livejamie, on 03/18/2008, -1/+6Coffee?
- jrtcs, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5Do they like Fritos, Tab, or Mountain Dew?
- TeacherOfHeroes, on 03/18/2008, -1/+5I thought it was about Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon...
- VladislavIII, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4I hope they save them because I don't want to port all of my code to C# Gibbons.
- tjl30, on 03/18/2008, -1/+5lol pwned
- invinciblechunk, on 03/18/2008, -1/+5I was gonna digg it for just "Java Gibbons", but I am now definitely digging it for "Diggers for Java Gibbons".

- antechinus, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2No *****!
- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2Remember, when you slit your wrists, you want to do it lengthwise and not side-to-side.
- theviceroy, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3I don't think letting any species of Anthropoid be eradicated is good but that's just me as a silly old Anthropologist.
- Bamborzled, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2kpsfire's thought process when writing his comment:
1. kpsfire observes that the article contains the word "scientist".
2. kpsfire observes that the word "scientist" is very similar to the word "Scientologist".
3. After having this word hammered into his brain by Diggers, he decides to make a joke based on this word.
4. For some reason, instead of typing the "s" key, he hits Shift+4 in place of the "s" because he likes to substitute the letter "s" with a dollar sign.
5. He submits it, and smiles at himself smugly after making a biting, cruel, articulate, intelligent, and totally original comment. - Cybie, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2Quick! Somebody call Leeza Gibbons
- BlueCyclone, on 03/18/2008, -11/+13***** THE RIAA
- Phlex330, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2Those Poo Flingers should stop free loading and get jobs! Like little Gibbon butlers and Little Gibbon Korean Grocers.
- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1They're torturing the poor little things too.
Footage (I swear, under penalty of bannage that this is NOT a Rick Roll): http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids. ... - bromac, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2I don't think you get the point.
We're animals. By slashing the forests, not only do we kill other innocent animals, we devastate the environment that we're dependent on. Imagine if someone came and tore down your house for salvage. You'd be in some very hard times. Now take that house analogy, and apply it to the "house" we live in called earth. Eventually it'll affect you. It probably has, but you'll dismiss it as you sit inside, eating processed food that's causing epidemic health problems, and in front of a computer that's drawing energy.
They're chopping down the forests to fuel your cars and your diesel powerplants, at the expense of the organic environment that life thrives in. It's typical human arrogance to assume that we're somehow totally disconnected from the world around us, while thousands suffer from famine and water shortage. Wake up and smell the coffee: you need organic food, clean water and air to live. Why would you trade these things haphazardly for shiny trinkets? - DanOnTheMoon, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Programmin', foo'.
- lilricky, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2We must save the Java Gibbons! How else will we have freshly squeezed Java Gibbon juice?
- GorfTron, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Ya, but the C# gibbons are rocking.
- tjl30, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2They should make a lol Java gibbons site with pictures of dead gibbons next to there burned down forests with the words PWNED at the top. LOL!
- JonTheGoose, on 03/18/2008, -3/+4I'm in ur Javaz savin ur munkeez.

- krytz86, on 03/18/2008, -2/+2Anyone else click this expecting something to do with coffee?
- murlox, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1Sun Micro derived the name Java from the slang nickname of Coffee. Why Java? Because the island of Java in Indonesia was/is famous for its coffee.
- iofthestorm, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1"Code Monkey get up get coffee"
- jesuswuzanalien, on 03/18/2008, -2/+2Ohhhh THAT kind of Java. At least you can't call them dangling pointers!
