- TeCuervo, on 12/11/2007, -0/+39But have they tried any abstinence only programs?
- sotopheavy, on 12/11/2007, -2/+18Finally a way to stop crabs from getting crabs and forming a super fractal crab. (I know they're not insects.)
- Bridea, on 12/11/2007, -3/+13Buried as inaccurate blogspam. The article has nothing to do with insect contraceptives. Rather, it discusses recent developments in post-coital behavior modification.
Oh, and the original Reuters article can be found here: http://uk.reuters.com/article/scienceNews/idUKL092 ... - inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+9As long as it is specefic to only the species they want to control and not to other insect species,it sounds good.
- alekkss, on 12/11/2007, -0/+8Inevitable sexual tensions between bugs. lol
- john2kx, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Well, crabs were never a problem anyway, since you can always just attack their weak spot for MASSIVE DAMAGE.
- hernam19, on 12/11/2007, -1/+6so whens sterilized lube for these guys gonna be invented?
- jolshwar, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5OK, now that's done, back to curing cancer...
- Rekutyn, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5Is this the prequel to "Children of Men (2007)" ?
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5This could ***** up the food chain.
- chuckDontSurf, on 12/11/2007, -1/+5I'm sure this won't have any unintended consequences whatsoever. We should immediately start doing this on massive scale across the country.
- VeryBoredNow, on 12/11/2007, -1/+5FinallY!!!
- neonoodle, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Why do people's lives have to be valued above animal lives? The ecosystem is very intertwined. If bees die out, everything above in the evolutionary scale will die out as well because we depend on them to pollinate the plants. The same could be said about other bugs who have various purpose. They all have their place, and we can't put animal lives below us. We need to find an equilibrium. Humans cannot continue rapid growth at the expense of other wildlife and expect to survive on this planet for much longer. Watch Planet Earth or Life in the Undergrowth or another David Attenborough documentary. It will blow your mind.
- Hello1024, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3But I think it'd be worth a try - a contained experiment could prove the effects, and it may be decided that significantly reduced malaria deaths might be worth the possiby small environmntal losses - after all, peoples lives have to be valued above animal lives.
- AquaAdult, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3What high school did this guy go to?
- MadN, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3This idea brought to you by the same idiots who brought Cane Toads into Australia....
- kaosushijin, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Once you pop, you can't stop...
- prattstick, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Can't wait for this to come in an aerosol can!
- positron, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Only the giant enemy crabs.
- ZenMojo, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3That's how we got to this point in the first place.
- Iwantawii, on 12/11/2007, -1/+4I never knew anyone like that in high school.
- seanhive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Thanks for at least putting "chemical" in there so it makes sense as you read it, and you don't get a million views just because of the usual wacky and inaccurate title.
- stackered, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2small penised asian ^
- Antibland, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2"Aww, cmon...it feels...bzzzz...better...bzzz...without it."
- catalysis, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2There are many places where insects have unnaturally high populations though.
- vertinox, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Actually, its due to mankind that many insects are over populated. In California the fact that everyone and their mom has a swimming pool they don't bother to clean means trillions more damn mosquitoes.
- strikes12, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3"The new method the scientists propose will essentially turn insects into that one person you knew in high school. Long after they’ve had sex, they’ll continue to act like virgins."
Possibly the worst analogy I've ever seen. - junkyinny, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2cant wait for human research
- TheTaoOfBill, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Even killing off annoying pests like mosquitoes could have harsh effects on the environment.
- directive0, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2That wish will have many far reaching and lasting repercussions.
- Spoomeister, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Way to throw a bucket of cold water on a perfectly good source of bug sex jokes. ;)
- vertinox, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Not where there aren't many natural predators.
- spyd3rweb, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Stop trying to mess with the internal affairs of mother nature.
- Tikkimann, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2"The new method the scientists propose will essentially turn insects into that one person you knew in high school."
I'll have you know that I knew more than one person in high school! - inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2man I did. Of course I went to sanctimonious bitch high.
- HyperJack, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3You know if all the Bees on Earth dies, we would be dead within 4 years.
Don't feel so great about killing them all now eh ? - AdamKoRn27, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Word!
- crazybugger, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1BEWARE: What can be used on bugs can also be used on humans!
- Spoomeister, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1So that incessant cicada chirping I hear at 1 in the morning is dozens of little Romeos saying "c'mon baby, I'll pull out, I promise..."?
- arrrapirate, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1I misread the sentence about turning the fruit flies "gay and back" and had to do a double take
- nogChoco, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Are you saying that you use tiny condoms?
- onionoino, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Whose job is it to put all those tiny condoms on? cause there are a lot of bugs... and they don't have thumbs so they cant do it themselves.
- lbmouse, on 12/11/2007, -4/+5They also work for SE Asians.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1you've now made me think about Bee Movie. Thanks a bunch.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1 it sure would...Our whole eco system would come crashing down around our ears without the diligent work of insects.
Spiders aren't insects...
And if all bugs die, there would be nothing for the praying mantis to eat...Or the spiders... - Curlz31, on 12/11/2007, -2/+3You beat me to it. lol
- mizuhri, on 12/11/2007, -1/+1WHY?!
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0i would love it if bed bugs go extinct in my neighborhood, Astoria, Queens
- FiestyPumpkin, on 12/15/2007, -0/+0I guess it's okay to kill the bugs, but we have to save the polar bears. The polar bears will probably still die of starvation when they have no fish to eat because the fish's food supply will have been depleted.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 12/11/2007, -3/+3I don't think that's true. If bees died we would find ways to do their job. We already pollinate plants in genetic experiments with plants. All it would take is a puffer full of pollen. In fact in some ways it would be better because the pollen would be more pure and controlled.
Not that it wouldn't be harder on us if bees died. I just don't think we are that reliant on bees. -
