- lorensingley, on 06/29/2009, -2/+11Oi! This grid is bollocks!
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -1/+8It's about time someone noticed how outdated everything is getting. Most of the backbone for our 'modern technology' is from the 60's still...
- Moralogic, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6Britain and US alike, we both need massive upgrades to our electrical systems...
- Frostek, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3The US could cut back on it's electrical consumption to be honest. Did you see the world % consumption Digg story earlier?
Too many big tellys and huge fridges... ;-) - bipolarruledout, on 09/02/2009, -0/+2I wish OUR biggest problem was that we used too much nuclear power.
- irvman21, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2Ironically, environmental groups are the biggest roadblocks to build the necessary transmission lines to form a "supergrid". You can't build wind and solar farms out in the middle of nowhere, as they like to suggest, without spending billions on transmission lines to get that power to where people actually use it. Of course, you can't get transmission lines built without years of environmental impact studies, surveys, public hearings, and lobbying. All the while the coal plants continue to burn away, not in spite of environmental groups, because of environmental groups.
- bipolarruledout, on 09/02/2009, -0/+1I don't know of a lot of environmental groups that are pushing for more coal. The fact is is that it's very cheap and we have lots of it. We are now more aware than ever of it's true impact.
- bipolarruledout, on 09/02/2009, -0/+1If you want the world to be greener than the solution is quite simple. Stop having kids. But yeah....fat chance of trying to sell that idea.
- bipolarruledout, on 09/02/2009, -0/+1That's not exactly it. Have you looked at the size of north america? We're too spread out and transport everything long distances from where it's created.
- bipolarruledout, on 09/02/2009, -0/+1Hydrogen is only clean if it's "distilled" from clean energy sources. In and of itself it is not a solution but can be a part of one. Nuclear powered devices would be pretty nifty but I don't see that ever gaining much traction. Imagine a notebook or cell phone that ran for years without needing to be recharged.
- kheptril, on 07/03/2009, -0/+0i disagree; i think it would be far better for the environment and energy security (aka China allegedly hacking the US' power grid), and far more economical (in the long run) to encourage local or micro power generation.
In fact, why not go the whole hog and put fuel cells into everything; TV's, DVD players, games consoles, vacuum cleaners, etc... An untethered world is a better world! lol - blipblopblip, on 06/30/2009, -2/+1http://www.intalek.com/Index/Projects/SmartLINK/00 ...
- Frostek, on 06/30/2009, -4/+2We need to build more nuclear power stations, so that we can gradually phase out...
*sigh*
Okay, I'll say it - "You must construct additional pylons!"

What is Digg?
