Run Your Car on Wood? No Joke.
gas2.org — I know my state (NH) has wood-fired power plants, but I've never heard of a wood-fired car, until today.

- lucutus, on 05/14/2008, -0/+8From the description it seems that this is running on reduced gas from wood coals. Kinda like this guy's Yugo http://freeweb.deltha.hu/zastava.in.hu/wood-gas.ht ...

- jflowers45, on 05/14/2008, -7/+3That's not the only thing I run on wood.
- sterntastic223, on 05/14/2008, -1/+18My GIRLFRIEND runs on wood, if you know what I meaaaan!!! Meaning she runs in a gym with wood floors. What did you think I meant?
- Namaha, on 05/14/2008, -2/+9Penis.
- Shorties, on 05/14/2008, -1/+6I would of said that a little more tactfully
- crazyjake, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1more tactfully than "Penis"?!?!
- Dylson, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3A dick.
- Namaha, on 05/14/2008, -2/+9Penis.
- santaliqueur, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3I see what you did there. Jacking off. We read you.
- sterntastic223, on 05/14/2008, -1/+18My GIRLFRIEND runs on wood, if you know what I meaaaan!!! Meaning she runs in a gym with wood floors. What did you think I meant?
- claybodie, on 05/14/2008, -0/+11It seems like you can run a car on just about anything if you've got the skills and the time...
- tbk123, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3wtf?? Sure isn't as slick looking as all those snazzy silver stream-lined cars you see on Gas2.0
- Gemfinder, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6Steampunk is fun, but I'd rather get methanol out of the wood and run it on that.
- TheIinLive, on 05/14/2008, -2/+26How would that be helping the environment though....?
- Vich, on 05/14/2008, -2/+6Yeah, getting rid of all those nasty trees will help for sure
- bartleby, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Well it is a renewable and sustainable resource, but I don't know about the emissions from wood burning.
- moomeep, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6nothing new at all
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodgas - rolf, on 05/14/2008, -0/+5These were used in Germany late in the war (and several years after) when oil was scarce:
http://strangevehicles.greyfalcon.us/HOLZBRENNER%2 ...
The downside was that you had to start the fire a good while before using the car. It was not a jump in and get going type of thing.- yetAnotherCroc, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1In sweden as well. We couldn't exactly get the oil delivered to us in those days, what with being wedged in right in the middle of the european theater yet not being in the war.
- Mononuclear, on 05/14/2008, -2/+11Instead of using up oil lets just cut down even more trees and more deforestation to power our cars! We already have a huge problem with deforestation. This is not the answer and might even be worse than just using oil..
- tratten, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Thats only a problem when new trees aren't planted. If new trees are planted the environmental impact is very low. The solution is strict laws and regulations that requires that new trees are planted.
But as Gemfinder said, that it would be better with methanol. That can be produced from wood industry waste.

- snaga83, on 05/14/2008, -8/+5I got wood!
/prepared for burying- Failchan, on 05/14/2008, -0/+5Godspeed, my moronic friend. Godspeed.
- Dylson, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1I did bury you, but you are a brave idiot.
- crazyjake, on 05/14/2008, -3/+4well... time to start clearing the rainforest so we can drive to wallmart!
- joshcxa, on 05/14/2008, -1/+2it's win win! The more forrests we clear, the more room we have for more wallmarts!
- Canadian0207, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6that must be terribly inefficient
- Alex2, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1it is. This truck was on Discovery Channel.
- sherbertbones, on 05/14/2008, -4/+13Ziggle bamgir. DS 248 M4 M83 Stive OedekRRK.

3E G68B 0O 5S2S BOM!- Failchan, on 05/14/2008, -0/+9The ***** did I just read?
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+5I think someone put a magnet near his head.
- Dylson, on 05/14/2008, -1/+6Just smile and nod....SMILE and NOD!
- bobmagoo, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1You know, it's so easy to say "oh someone else will summon the seven dragons of reggae" but if I don't, then who will
- killerknives, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2"Grab the playboys we're going on a road trip!!"
- Canadian0207, on 05/14/2008, -9/+6HEY DIGGNATION! WHERE ARE ALL THE "CLINTON RESOUNDINGLY BEATS OBAMA IN WV" POSTS???
- GalacticXenu, on 05/14/2008, -2/+2*laughs*
- pitlord, on 05/14/2008, -8/+5The posts are there, but they have titles like, "Idiot racists in WV vote for that racist honkey Clinton beyotch!"
o.O
That's about what I've come to expect from the racist, hate-filled, libtard "diggnation."
>.>
Luckily there is a very intelligent and strong base of moderate and conservative thinkers here that help keep the inmates in check.- BelatedHero, on 05/14/2008, -2/+5You are not one of them.
- CryRightardCry, on 05/14/2008, -1/+3The only ones the lefties hate are the ignorant rightard *****.
It's funny that you pretend LIBS are racist when the GOP just pushed through that voter ID law that will impact minority voting.
Ah well, you rightard shills didn't ACTUALLY want those poor blacks to vote anyway.
And I guess you are pretending you haven't been over to LGF lately. Let me point you over there. If you are looking for ignorance and hate, that's your gold mine.
It's also not surprising so see a rightard pretending otherwise.
I wonder if you rightards will EVER get any integrity.
- CookieDuster666, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2Never heard of wood fired car? What about the Stanley Steamer?
- LinuxGalore, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1During WW!! due to fuel shortages this was very common here in Australia, I have seen old black and white pictures of cars with a big gas bag on the roof and weird wood conversion unit that look like a stove mounted on the back.
- Shalaby, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2how do you start the engine, light a pile of sticks? or is it a mechanized lighter? how do you stop it for that matter...
- Dantehman17, on 05/14/2008, -2/+3As if we aren't cutting down enough tree already.
- pitlord, on 05/14/2008, -3/+5This is a great idea!
>.>
The exhaust from a wood burning car would destroy our air TEN TIMES FASTER than gasoline.
-_-
Friggin, morons!- Renian, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2[citation needed]
It would if you don't replant and don't balance out the exhaust with new trees, as you would be giving off all the carbon that the tree has absorbed during its life. If you do it right, it should work fine.
- Renian, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2[citation needed]
- maskharat, on 05/14/2008, -0/+0Good lord. I was sure it was going to be a bogus story about Chicken.
- MurphyWatson, on 05/14/2008, -2/+3This is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. In the midst of global warming and deforestation, whose the retard who thought it would be a good idea run cars on something thats derived from burning wood?
- Asheis, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1errr. exactly. We're looking for new fuel sources to help mitigate climate change/global warming, not speed up deforestation. About the only reason this would be actually considered would be for the "fun" factor.
- MonumentMan, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1something seems decidedly unsafe regarding automobiles full of roaring flames cruising down the highway at 80mph.
could make for some epic, epic looking wrecks though, eh? - evan3168, on 05/14/2008, -2/+1i stuck my erection in the gas tank.. nothing. what a misleading headline.
- ZeRux, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2OM NOM NOM NOM
- Mattwdj, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1i got wood reading this....
....errr jk. - Ghostalker, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3How many gallons of wood does that tank hold?
- TheTrust, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Wood Burning Turbine
http://www.gas-turbines.com/nt6/index.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-8BX7dUk5c - edebolt, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1trees? who needs them? I know let's burn them all in our cars. why not?
- Myztry, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1That's almost a silly as running a massive 100 ton vehicle like a train on coal... hmmmm...
- Lavarock, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1More like Gas .5a
- Sillywombat, on 05/14/2008, -1/+3Correct me if im wrong, but isnt this called a steam engine?? Like the ones used in the first trains?
- mqchen, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Buses in Oslo, Norway already run on leftover wood from various production/construction.
- JohnnyHotballs, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1This would be great idea if you lived on some acreage and wanted to power a pickup to haul things around. You really wouldn't need a lot of mileage and you wouldn't need to buy gasoline.
- misimiki, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1yeah it's called a steam engine!!!
- redcolumbine, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1Vaguely intriguing science project, overwhelmingly bad idea.
- Tripper44, on 05/14/2008, -1/+1Bit of awaste of time though, with the state of the worlds forests as they are i wouldnt count this as a renewable source :P probably worse than using petrol actually lol
- auto98, on 05/14/2008, -0/+0The first cars ran on steam, so i would think a wood fired car has been done before
- mehum, on 05/14/2008, -0/+0Its not running on steam. It uses steam and burning wood to create carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which is used to run an internal combustion engine; the entire process is actually reasonably efficient. Much more than what Watt invented anyway.
As for wood as fuel, it at least has the potential to be sustainable / carbon neutral, so long as the silviculture is good. Which is more than can be said for oil or gas. - BradMW, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Did you hear about the wooden car with wooden wheels and a wooden engine? It wooden go!
- oldcyborg, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Yoiu know that the owner couldn't get much else done, especially if they also heat the house with wood. Tons of work, very little return, and a vehicle that looks like *****.... I can't see that, even in WV........
Cyborg - KingGorilla, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1I like steampunk
- sngx1275, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1I think Sweden had to do this during WW2 because the Germans prevented any oil shipments.
