- moredown, on 10/21/2008, -0/+9Badass
- stachesnmullets, on 10/21/2008, -0/+8Burn outs with that much torque have gotta be awesome!
- majikmixx, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7"As the garage door rolls up, a standard black 997 appears, wearing four large orange stickers with the word "Erprobungsfahrt," that is, "Test Drive," on the front and rear bumpers."
My new favorite German word: Erprobungsfahrt. - inactive, on 10/21/2008, -0/+6The thing that always impressed me about electric vehicles is torque.
That will get you snapped back in your seat with 470+.
They look great but I would have to wait until they were on the road a few years before buying one.
I don't want to be the test. - metapop, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4meh- i'd still rather have a tesla.
- umaranjum, on 10/21/2008, -0/+4thats a beauty
- hilo4321, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4oh my god, a ringtone site, are you retarded or what?
this doesnt work here.. - guinsu, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4I own a Porsche and I care about the environment. Not enough to sell it but my house is as energy efficient as I can make it, I ride the subway and I recycle. So I figure the car isn't so bad in the grand scheme of things. Woul love an electric/hybrid though.
- inactive, on 10/21/2008, -0/+3It'll be interesting to see how and if they can mass produce these at affordable prices. Then again, most of us can;t afford a normal Porsche!
- The0cho, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3Oh and it happens in Germany as well...Not the US
- LOLz0rz, on 10/21/2008, -4/+7Better than the Bugatti Veyron. Still, if you have the money for a Porsche who cares about gas prices/the environment?
- The0cho, on 10/22/2008, -2/+5Slightly deceptive. A Ruf is not a Porsche. While Ruf and Porsche are similar, they are not the same. Ruf takes unmarked Porsche chassis and installs many of its own parts into it. It is classified by the German government as an independent automaker. So sad to say, no electric Porsche
- Oasisma, on 10/21/2008, -1/+4It can only go full throttle for 4 miles.
- techweenie, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4Actually the first car designed by Dr. Porsche was electric, so it won't surprise if Porsche itself is working on electric propulsion.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3What about steam power? Throw a coal / wood burning engine in there!
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2and then the women will be flowin' in!
- AmazingSteve, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2The performance isn't exactly "Ruf" either 0-90 in 7 seconds is fine the torque is awesome, but that seems to be the norm for performance electrics as the Tesla is a torque monster as well, but it tops out at 160. And being Ruf, it's going to be expensive as hell. I wish someone would get it right. An electric car with these looks at an affordable price for Joe average would probably outsell everything.
- metapop, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2it was a poor choice... but people who make poor choices litter the automotive industry anyway, in every company. i would much rather buy a much faster car from a startup company than a slower (and probably more expensive) car from a corporation.
besides, drivers who look like ***** drive yellow (or any color) hummers. i don't think the first thought that runs through the average person's head that sees a tesla on the road is "wow, did you see that *****", as if that even matters. - metapop, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2only if it comes in orange
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+2This guy has a point. This might be good for an electric automobile but it can't compete as a supercar. Porsches are already surprisingly efficient, there is no need to ruin one like this.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+20-60 in 4 is in no way on par with the world's fastest street legal cars. That was true twenty years ago. There are currently a few dozen models in production that are faster than 3.5, and a handful are available for under $100,000
- dan222555, on 10/22/2008, -1/+3A 200hp Porsche....I can hardly contain my excitement. I can't wait to get smoked by kids in Civics in my outrageously expensive 200hp electric Porsche.
I didn't know RUF was in the business of making golf carts now. - doublefelix, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2
Awesome is a matter of perspective:
http://www.tgdaily.com/html_tmp/content-view-33853 ... - HippyInASuit, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2"Erprobungsfahrt" = "Test Drive"
LOL! You said bungs fart! - Jektal, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Better in some ways, not all.
If money weren't an option, I'd still rather have the Veyron. - Antimatt, on 10/22/2008, -1/+3Tesla 0-60 in 4 seconds, on par with the fastest street legal cars in the world. This car 0-60 in 7 seconds.. about the same as a VW Rabbit.
- vertigo32, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Just what the world needs, another reason for pretentious Porsche owners to think they are better than everyone else.
- Shiftgood, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1I feel like they should take electrics and plug them into a mid engine platform like the cayman.
- InJectaH, on 10/22/2008, -1/+2The price of that thing = 40 Years Money worth of gas for me or pennies to the person who can actually afford that thing. Still nice though.
- dan222555, on 10/22/2008, -1/+2Torque will get you off the line and win you a forty yard dash. But after that if you don't have any power you're not winning anything. The article says the thing does 0-60 in ~7 sec. That can't beat my 216hp Mazda6 that has less than 200 lb/ft of torque.
You know what you can do with that much torque? Tow a boat....got tow a boat with your ridiculously expensive electric Porsche. - nerdsftw, on 10/22/2008, -2/+3wow, that's cool.
- hdhock3y, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Nice spam.
- flander, on 10/22/2008, -1/+2Glad to see tuners are looking at electric vehicles. Now all we need is governments to back electric and alternative fuels instead of being payed off by BIG oil companies.
- rockrapdude, on 10/22/2008, -1/+2From the guys who laid off people via blog? Good luck not looking like an *****.
- RumpleForeskin3, on 10/22/2008, -2/+3Butch, hairy, environmental women that is
My Land Rover had enough electrical problems I don't see a fully electric one going anywhere but to the repair shop - Jektal, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Meh.
Biofuel is another move in the same game. Even with farms of high-production algae we'd be reliant on a single source with many of the same problems and limited applications as oil, and similar pollutants.
Electric moves us to a game where we can theoretically power everything you need (heat, light, appliances, gadgets, car, etc) off of one power source which doesn't generate pollution when it is used, can be transmitted faster over large distances, and can come from a huge variety of sources, including bio-fuel-burning generators. The whole system (batteries, generation, transmission infrastructure, home infrastructure, etc) needs a lot of work, but electric shows the greatest all-around promise. - dmadip, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1this is 3rd one i have seen today. are these bots?
- saikyan, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Apply this treatment to a Carrera 4, throw in a set of snow tires, and you've got one hell of a year-round daily driver.
- hilo4321, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1i feel like this cant be a bot because its fairly pertinent to the topic at hand
- HippyInASuit, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1Thank you, I was wondering what was going on.
- hfactor, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1It's not required to be a dick when you have money...
- salinemist, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1Dugg for the truth.
- thewordisberry, on 10/21/2008, -0/+1all I need is my electric range rover...oh and 100K.
- pacman122, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1How did Road and Track pull this one off? It would have been my guess that Top Gear or some other well known organization would have been first to test drive it.
- Folksie, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1This is good, because if people view technology like this as cool, they will want it, demand will increase, and thus innovation will drive costs down. Go Porsche (quite literally with that much torque!)
- niradg, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1well the new 2009 911s are starting to come with "PDK" (like Audi's DSG) anyway.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1How on earth is this better than a Bugatti?
- jimmies, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1You don't get it. Horsepower is a measure of torque over time. Given the right gearing, I'll take torque. KTHX.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/22/2008, -1/+1The cops would be all over you by then anyway.
