http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5 ... - thefourcast, on 05/31/2009, -1/+9It's sad to see this for the whales but it's heartening to watch people care and help out.
- ban1d0, on 05/31/2009, -4/+12Meanwhile in Digg people are acting righteous without ever lifting a finger to help anything during their lives.
Yeah the world is a ***** place so ***** the whales, why give a *****? /s - WhiteMike87, on 05/31/2009, -2/+10Suicide? Like a whale-cult, or something?
- inactive, on 05/31/2009, -6/+14Meanwhile elsewhere in africa, a bunch of skinny kids look under rocks for insects to eat.
- Pinkertinkle, on 05/31/2009, -3/+10These whales want to die, if you rescue them they'll just beach themselves somewhere else.
- libhatefulhead, on 05/31/2009, -0/+6These whales beached themselves because of the Iraq war and Climate Change and in protest of the former Bush administration.
- daivos, on 05/31/2009, -0/+5Some scientists believe whale beachings are caused by disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field.
The Earth's magnetic field is actually over-due for polarity switch, and that location is close to the magnetic anomoly that has been growing off the coast of Brazil for several years now, and now covers an area about the size of North America.
Humans were not around the last time the Earth switched it's polarity, which usually lasts for a couple thousand years. No one really knows what could happen during that period, but it's going to happen at some point, and whatever happens probably isn't going to be good. The magnetic field is believed to be a big part of a lot of naturally occuring things, like bird migration and bat navigation. - Tyrghast, on 05/31/2009, -1/+6It's been a long-standing fact that whales do not have the reaction time to be good pilots. They also ruin your gas mileage.
- GreenNoise, on 05/31/2009, -0/+4I'll eat that.
- EndouOuto, on 05/31/2009, -1/+5Bugs am good food
- bcronos, on 05/31/2009, -0/+4Couldn't agree more. The whales do this for a reason and we obviously don't know what it is, so leave them alone.
- inactive, on 05/31/2009, -0/+4I hope they sell them to the Japanese or something. That's a lot of wasted whale otherwise.
- inactive, on 05/31/2009, -0/+3for starters, 16 out of 20 people in south africa are black. And in capetown, 18.75% are white and 48.13% are mixed. So sorry to burst your bubble, but white people can be african too.
- dexx4d, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2Or disoriented due to sonar in the area.
http://digg.com/pets_animals/Why_do_whales_beach_t ... - Grazzit, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2they failed and wound up shooting them all
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5 ... - EndouOuto, on 05/31/2009, -2/+4Whales beach themselves to die. Might as well feed them to the poor.
- dscan, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2They had a whale of a time.
- Hellahulla, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2Well, those who are starving are a long way away and those whales were right on their beach.
I find it hard to believe that a large majority of those people helping those whales don't also do something to help the less fortunate people in their continent too. - jf713jf, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1Honestly thought this was gonna be a Rosie photochop
- noknockers, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2yeah of course we are part of nature..silly thing to say, but we're the only creatures that constantly fight against it. Everything else is in harmony with it, and we're completely 180 degrees out of rhythm.
- FreakazoidZA, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1come to south africa :) Cape Town is one of the friendliest cites in the world.
- cambob76, on 05/31/2009, -3/+4Well, it does seem odd that so many beached themselves at once... they're smart creatures too... maybe it wasn't an accident.
- noknockers, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2it's awesome that you shared with us what you thought. Have you ever though that nobody is really too concerned with what you thought this article was about?
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1Confusing wording in the title.
- jf713jf, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1it's still funny!
- inactive, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Right hemisphere, wrong country.
- noknockers, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1"...cares enough to help them".
Are you for ***** real? Help them? Dont let your emotions get in the way of what's actually happening here.
You may see it as helping.... only because the thing you fear most in life is death. These creatures want to die, they don't have an issue with it, only humans have an issue with it because we're so fricken scared of it. They have a greater agenda here than you can perceive, and by not letting them die,we're not helping anything except for our own egos. - skipvt, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1"Officials said it was unclear why the animals had come to shore"
Bystanders were unclear why officials had to put in their two cents. - Cryptopsy, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Just a quick question.... are you mentally retarded?
- GGREH, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the pics...sad!! But cool to see so many people trying to help!
- noknockers, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2they're not dolphins dude, they're whales.
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1seeing as I was actually there.. there were a crap load of white and coloured people and some black people on the beach and helping to save the whales.. what you don't realise is that the public transport and the mountains make it very hard for anyone who doesn't own there own car to actually get anywhere near a beach.. but hey, the black government could've done something about that 10 years ago instead of embezzling all their money.. so yes you will see mainly white people volunteering to help people.. because you would have to own a wetsuit and a car to even get near the beach which is ***** expensive for the majority of the unemployed...
And if you actually walked around Kommetjie without your rose tinted glasses you would've seen the squatter camps and local slums which are a few 100 meters up the road from the beach, but I guess you missed the fact that ***** anyone can walk on the beach.. if they can get there.
Oh and the only province which is actually doing anything constructive to actually help the poor black people is the one run by white people.. ***** funny that.. no-offence to other races but it always come down to white people having to sort ***** out for the rest of the we don't give a crap about the pollution and war and whatever crimes we commit.. - foreverdaed, on 05/31/2009, -4/+4 like it or not humans are a part of nature. Pls stop bitching about people doing stuff that wont affect you.
This may help with the anger.

- NJSlacker, on 05/31/2009, -2/+2One of Nature's saddest mysteries.
- MyTrooper, on 08/01/2009, -0/+0this article will change your life! you think you know all??? we only know, what governments allow us to know... the rest comes from the internet! and this is the reality i live in - read many posts... the truth is in between :-)

whales have no chance! READ IT! - inactive, on 05/31/2009, -0/+0Obama beached the whales!
- drd57, on 05/31/2009, -0/+0
egos ? i doubt it
people are going to continue to
do humane things such as this regardless of what anyone thinks
some will care some will object. you can never satisfy everyone
so whether there is a agenda or not acts like this will continue to happen. we all know we're going to die and this has nothing to do with fear of death - jokesta, on 05/31/2009, -2/+2the aims reading test that i took had a story about beached whales.
i failed everyone of those questions
i hate beached whales now - inactive, on 05/31/2009, -0/+0Why so serious?
- dikky, on 05/31/2009, -1/+0news to me that humans weren't around a couple thousand years ago
- KingKobe1, on 05/31/2009, -5/+4Nice to see this many people helping out whales.....not many people would help out a man begging on the street
- noknockers, on 05/31/2009, -7/+6*****, leave them alone. Stop ***** with nature.
I cant stand seeing us humans playing 'god' and thinking we're helping, when really we're just doing exactly the opposite of what nature was intending to happen. It makes me so ***** angry!!!! - drd57, on 05/31/2009, -1/+0
it always does me good to see people helping out these whales
never mind how or why they got there at least they know someone cares enough to help them. - bcronos, on 05/31/2009, -2/+1The whales know what they're doing, the people don't...
- Flytrap, on 05/31/2009, -4/+2Very interesting picture... that could have been Australia, Europe or even North America. Very much like our malls, suburbs, country clubs, restuarants, etc... still very lilly white.
People outside of South Africa may not get it, I know, but in a country where whites make up less than 5% of the population, it still always amazes me to see how much of the country remains exclusively white...
What the pictures appear to imply is that wherein most of the faces in the pictures should have been overwhelmingly black, the pictures appear to imply that the indeginous black people couldn't have been bothered to participate in the attempted whale rescue, and this was left to the few white people who cared. What cannot be seen from the pictures is that that little Kommetjie enclave is almost exclusively inhabited by white people, who have developed gated estates that are designed in such a way as to keep people who do not live in the area from accessing the beach front.
For those that do not know, the Kommetjie, Hout Bay, Chapman's Peak and Noordhoek areas are some of the most beautiful shorelines and country living areas in the world. I was in Hout Bay for a weekend getawy with my wife a few weeks ago, and although we really enjoyed ourselves and the hotel was great... we couldn't help but feel like an anomaly in the area wherever we went - we even overheard someone at the poolside table next to ours trying to convince his companions that he knew some black people outside of work, but just couldn't remember their names (in a country where 19 of every 20 people is black, how can these people spend an entire lifetime without ever having to interact with black people) - jayjay1001, on 05/31/2009, -2/+0I'm beached as bro!
