- poidh, on 09/12/2008, -0/+19Great. Now a bunch of idiots are going to fly out there to shoot them.
- Alias1431, on 09/12/2008, -3/+21CHARRRRRRLIEEEEEEEEEE.

- ohmysac, on 09/12/2008, -1/+18You fail at the cognizant comprehension of what is called a joke.
Douchenozzle. - DarkCanuck12, on 09/12/2008, -0/+11First time I saw one of these in San Diego I was like, "WTF are they doin' to animals at this zoo."
It all makes sense now... - hagfish70, on 09/12/2008, -2/+12I actually did my masters thesis on the Okapi and other related animals. Such a beautiful animal. Those of you who would like to see this creature in action, see below.

- gametavern, on 09/12/2008, -5/+13Mmmmm... Okapi Jerky.
- richalot, on 09/12/2008, -0/+8Add Disney's Animal Kingdom to that list.
- maxsunset, on 09/12/2008, -0/+7Yeah, when I first saw this I was like "I swear I have seen those at the San Diego Zoo...", but I guess their "rareness" is referring to the animal in the wild.
- maus56, on 09/12/2008, -0/+6Oncamera Okapi, future Ubuntu release.
- josephbloseph, on 09/12/2008, -0/+6rtfa
nobody claims they were held to be mythical until only recently; their "mythical" status had been upgraded to "just really ***** rare" long ago. - ohmysac, on 09/12/2008, -1/+7There are a few at the Columbus Zoo as well.
- Apocolypse007, on 09/12/2008, -0/+5Or a dragon fighting bigfoot!
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -1/+6only if there was intelligence stating that the Okapi COULD harm us citizens
- inigomntoya, on 09/12/2008, -0/+5You can undigg it in your profile.
- snoonoo, on 09/12/2008, -2/+7So can Michael Phelps, but you don't see him make the front page.
- Chillbilly, on 09/12/2008, -0/+4You little sumbitch! What's wrong with being a redneck?! yee haw
- burjzyntski, on 09/12/2008, -0/+4no, it's a rare creature; not a trap.
- djholybolt, on 09/12/2008, -1/+5They are telling us that your chances of seeing these in the wild is slim to none, and they just got camera footage.
- BinderGang, on 09/12/2008, -2/+5Taking a look at the patterns on the animal, they sure stick out like a sore thumb in the jungle, don't they. No wonder they're rarely found in the wild.
- OfficialJoe, on 09/12/2008, -6/+9For most of the Digg population this may just be another story to click on, but seeing these animals in the wild is as rare as the average Digg user's chances of sexual interaction with something other than their hands, couches or an assortment of warmed up fruits.
So appreciate it, is all I am trying to say. - username7410, on 09/12/2008, -0/+3"In addition to the ongoing civil war, the species is under threat from poaching. Okapi meat, reportedly from the park, is now regularly on sale in the nearby town of Beni. "
I'd be willing to beat the seller of that supposed Okapi meat has a nice little scheme going on. - protodon, on 09/12/2008, -2/+5I've seen these at multiple zoos with my own two eyes. then I borrowed someone else's eyes and I STILL saw them so they're real.
- OsiVert, on 09/12/2008, -0/+3you mean Sea World
- lolmax, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2White people don't care about your comment
- spykez, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2These comments are terrible.
- DiggItalia, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Pics or ...!
Oh my.
Well then, it must be photoshopped. look at the shadow. totally wrong. I hate you!
oh.. come on... where's the good ol' digg skepticism? - NexusV2, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Followed by Mr. Obama...
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2So we haven't seen one in 50 years but the poachers can find them consistently enough that their meat is constantly available? I think our conservationists need to step it up a little and get with the program...
- wastelander, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Yes, because she knows they are NOT endangered and are in league with Alkida.
- JakeK23, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2or a dragon with a big foot!
- PixelEater, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2Why does the okapi have zebra-like stripes? These markings, which seem very bold to us, give the animal great camouflage when hiding in the partial sunlight that filters through the dense rain forest. The stripes may also help young okapis follow their mothers through the dark forest, and they may help adult okapis find each other, too.
- tigerpaper, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Shoot them from helicopters
- nymphetamine, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2It's a good thing I saved my Master Ball.
- sajorojas, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Dugg for not being Dugg enough
- pitdog, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2just don't shoot it (or send Palin near it)
- psykiv, on 09/12/2008, -2/+4Okapi? Sounds like a pokemon.
- jjremy, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Or a bigfoot in drag!
- drewbe121212, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Yup. I see these guys everytime I go. They were really trying to fit in, heh.
- je12u, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1***** you!!..Two of my Okapis died while being poach....wait, are we not doing this one anymore?
- nepidae, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Appreciate what? All I see is a picture of something, so to continue your analogy is that like the porn of animal watching?
- lolmax, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1apparently the rarity of an animal is directly proportionate to the image size of the pictures you can show
- HoldenMyOwn, on 09/12/2008, -4/+5They do look tasty.
- Apocolypse007, on 09/12/2008, -1/+2I wonder how much the meat would cost if the animal is so rare. Seeing as how most African nations are poor, I can understand why poachers exist even if they know they may cause its extinction
- thealsir, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Nice to see that ascii art get dugg down for once
- leerayIG88, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1looks good to eat...I wonder what it taste like.
