- mrgreenjeans, on 02/21/2008, -3/+490If he doesn't believe anyone knows how the human eye works, then he shouldn't be wearing glasses.
- ani625, on 02/21/2008, -6/+361We see with half eye..
Moon is half the size of the sun..
and finally, sun is smaller than the earth..
Pure GOLD! - alski707, on 02/21/2008, -3/+256"the moon's diameter is 1,200,000km while that of the sun is 2,400,000km"
"the sun circles the earth because it is smaller than the earth"
Just so we don't have to think back to science class to put that in perspective:
actual diameter of the moon :3,474 km
actual diameter of the earth :12,756km
actual diameter of the sun: 1,400,000km
Scientist guy should have asked him how come an aircraft journey to Australia takes about 20 hours, and not SIX YEARS.
No wait, i think this has to be a fake right? please tell me none of that was what he actually said? - matt510, on 02/21/2008, -31/+277As funny as I think this is, how much does this one crazy guy actually represent Muslims at large? Do most Muslims hold to a strictly literal interpretation of that Koran that suggests the Earth is flat?
- Lancer383, on 02/21/2008, -7/+235Wouldn't it be funny if this weren't what they were talking about at all? Really, unless you understand what they're saying, all that you have to go by is that they're moving their hands and at one point one guy holds up a book aptly named "SCIENCE."
It would be fantastic if they were really having an informed discussion on some matter, and it was really just the subtitles that were leading us to think that they were a couple of idiots discussing whether or not the Earth is round. - errornix, on 02/21/2008, -2/+205The second guy held up my 5th grade science book. I remember it because they let us keep them.
- BryanQ, on 02/21/2008, -22/+214A lot of you guys make fun of his lack of logic and reason but here in the states we face similar consequences by letting Christian fundamentalists attack evolution. Once Creationism is taught along side evolution you'll see similar debates on our TV's. The focus shouldn't be on his specific religion but on religious fundamentalism as a whole and the current push towards anti-intellectualism.
- Zippo, on 02/21/2008, -6/+157"So far, no doctor has succeeded in understanding how the eye works"
Right... except for the fact we have optometrists... and have a solid scientific understand of exactly how light and our eyes work.
This guy is just spouting out pure ***** off the top of his head - confidently - in order to try and persuade some gullible, religious people. - CraigCarlyle, on 02/21/2008, -12/+162Who knew Fox News had it's own channel in Iraq?
- kru1e, on 02/21/2008, -9/+155He has a book titled science, its obviously a fact
- pmuaddib, on 02/21/2008, -16/+136The Quran does not say that the earth is flat.
- SpaceDreamer, on 02/21/2008, -13/+132wow, an iraqi huckabee...
- headphonz, on 02/21/2008, -2/+120Puny mortals..."I have seen the sun move!"
- JLecker, on 02/21/2008, -3/+120You've got to hand it to the physicist for not rolling his eyes whenever the "Researcher on Astronomy" opened his mouth.
- Scienceisfun, on 02/21/2008, -4/+100As crazy as the Koranic scientist sounds (if the subtitles are to be trusted), I was struck by how civil the discussion was. Sure you could see some edits in the video, but the two subjects never yelled at each other and didn't talk over each other to the point where you just hear noise for minutes at a time like on CNN or FOX. They also seemed to get a reasonable amount of time to explain some points, instead of having to talk in 10 second soundbytes.

mccain do something - pintomp3, on 02/21/2008, -29/+106no, and neither do most christians, despite what the bible says:
http://www.answering-christianity.com/earth_flat.h ... - bobartig, on 02/21/2008, -2/+67@alski: The Koran makes no mention of airplanes OR Australia. Q.E.D. Next!
- coyoteblue, on 02/21/2008, -2/+66SCIENCE!
- EmitStop, on 02/21/2008, -2/+62Think this is funny?
Check out this whole forum of people like this: http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/ - ICSU, on 02/21/2008, -6/+64McCain will use him to look younger and sane.
- Aidenf77, on 02/21/2008, -4/+57This man has such unwavering faith in the words of the Qur'an that, to him, discrediting a single part of it would be to discredit the whole thing. Therefore, he goes to extreme and laughable lengths to discredit the modern scientific evidence that would invalidate certain statements in the Qur'an. He summarizes by saying everything else is wrong simply because it differs from what is stated in the Qur'an. The logical fallacies employed were numerous and consisted of the "appeal to antiquity and tradition" not to mention the classic "ad hominem," where he attacked those presenting the opposing evidence as being heretics without ever addressing their points of debate. This is, unfortunately, all too common in any religion.
- manfrin, on 02/21/2008, -5/+55Replace 'earth is flat' with 'evolution' and 'Iraqi' with 'American' and we'd still have pretty much the same video. Except it would be in english.
- inactive, on 02/21/2008, -2/+51List of things not mentioned in the Koran:
- Glasses
- Wrist watch
- Shirt
- Microphone
- TV camera
That old guy is a lie and may not even exists according to his own interpretation. - boris92, on 02/21/2008, -3/+50IT's LIKE HE'S ***** FIVE!!!
- semengilligan, on 02/21/2008, -5/+51isn't that the guy who said there were no Americans at the Iraqi airport when the war first started?
- bobartig, on 02/21/2008, -9/+54As crazy as his statements were, he's no worse than the literal interpreters of the Bible, who believe that the earth is 6000 years old, evolution doesn't happen, and that Pi is exactly 3.
- Cymrubeats, on 02/21/2008, -0/+41No kidding...all pre 1992 scientific facts have already been debunked by the 1993 scientists!
- Elias1, on 02/21/2008, -0/+41I speak Arabic and, sadly, he said exactly what was written in English.
- gamer31, on 02/21/2008, -0/+38notice his glasses?
- rabidmonkey1, on 02/21/2008, -6/+42Well, all those passages are written in highly poetic/metaphoric language... so it's not accurate to make the claim that the Bible says it, too.
You can take a sentence in the Bible and distort it to say just about anything you want. Context is key, but most people don't bother to read the context. - alski707, on 02/21/2008, -3/+37Or... 3 months.
look at the difference a morning cup of coffee makes. - inactive, on 02/21/2008, -4/+38Same thing as Christian Science....hogwash (minus the pork for the Muslims I guess).
- crazydiode, on 02/21/2008, -3/+36have you seen the sun move? I have.
GOLD again!!! - inactive, on 02/21/2008, -2/+34this was a parody on the Iraqi website
http://www.shkomako.com/
it's like "the ONION" of the middle east. - chingy1788, on 02/21/2008, -3/+35are computers mentioned in there?
if not then they must be a lie, but im using one ahhh conundrum
is cake mentioned in there? - Teh_Shiz, on 02/21/2008, -0/+31"I have seen the sun moving"
Just as glorious as Tom Cruise being the only person who can help in a car cra$h. - zhepp, on 02/21/2008, -3/+32they are so stupid everyone knows the earth is hallow.
- chingy1788, on 02/21/2008, -2/+30any Iraqis here can interpret what they are saying?
- NoNamesLeft, on 02/21/2008, -17/+44Yep, this is the reason I hate religion. If it isn't in the sacred text or goes against any sacred text, it isn't true. Zealots will make up some ***** to argue that the sacred text is the only valid argument (half eye?) and, if you completely out do them with logic on every point, they'll simply call for your execution on the grounds that you are being sacrilegious. Case closed. Religion wins. Muslims need to get a bit more 1900's, less 1400's. I vote we strap this idiot to a rocket and send him skywards so he can see the shape of the Earth with his FULL eye. We'll be considerate and give him a parachute and warm clothes to land back on the Earth. Then we do it gain.
- FaceCage, on 02/21/2008, -1/+28HAHA, that's exactly what I was thinking, just couldn't remember what grade. There were some great experiments in that book, and I learned a great deal. I remember Chapter 5 vividly, "Why the earth is Flat"
- scamper22, on 02/21/2008, -2/+29"Do most Muslims hold to a strictly literal interpretation of that Koran that suggests the Earth is flat?"
I certainly wish they held a literal interpretation according to the Koran.
Read it sometime and
No where does it say the Earth is flat.
No where does it say to FORCE people to dress a certain way
It specifically prevents any use of violence with the exception of self-defence...and even then you're allowed to 'transgress'
No where does it say to prevent little girls from attending school.
...
Actually, the biggest problem with Islam is all these interpretations...mostly radical interpretation by the Saudis and warlords. - jsmith39, on 02/22/2008, -0/+26I too can confirm this, I don't speak Arabic or anything, but it just felt right.
- strikerK, on 02/21/2008, -0/+26I can confirm that the subtitles are 100% correct. My roommate's first language is that.
- avgbody, on 02/21/2008, -1/+25Actually he said that since the earth is not mention as being a sphere in the Koran, and that anything not in the Koran is then a lie.
- jonnyeh, on 02/22/2008, -2/+26I can confirm the confirmation too, I pretend to speak Arabic 100% fluently! Dirka dirka.
- zephc, on 02/21/2008, -0/+24The cake is a pie
:-O - chrisatwork, on 02/21/2008, -0/+22You realize that guy wasn't the one saying the world is flat?
- stevenscorsese, on 02/21/2008, -2/+24Baghdad Bob's dad?
- jrak, on 02/21/2008, -0/+21No, you are thinking of Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, Iraqi Minister of Information.
