- burybrigader, on 11/06/2009, -6/+48right up there with the PT Cruiser
*shudders* - jerryjamesstone, on 11/05/2009, -12/+44It is one fugly car....hands down.
- Antz0rz, on 11/06/2009, -0/+29But are they both close to the pontiac aztek?
- THMike, on 11/05/2009, -7/+36I'm not sure what to think of the Prius.. I kind of got used to it over the years.
- David513, on 11/06/2009, -2/+23I think it's very ugly, but I'd also argue that the oddball looks are one of the reasons it has sold better than Honda's hybrid. The driver of a hybrid is trying to make a "green statement" with the car. If the car looks like any other on the road (as Honda's hybrids do), he's not able to make the same psychological/political statement. So even if he's not aware of it, I think the fact that it looks SO different made it popular with people who were buying for environmental reasons.
- NaturalCauzes, on 11/06/2009, -2/+19The fact that Marty McFly's ride is on this list leads me to call shenanigans. That thing looks sweet going 88mph...
- thrillki1l, on 11/06/2009, -2/+18The PT cruiser and that stupid ***** box of a scion are the top 2 ugliest.
- haldir2012, on 11/06/2009, -0/+14That's it. A lot of Prius owners don't really give a ***** about the environment, they just like looking as though they do.
- superkendall, on 11/06/2009, -0/+12I have that same problem with a lot of cars. I hate giving up visibility. I've never sat in a Prius but with that shape I can see how that would be the case.
- therippa, on 11/06/2009, -3/+14Not only is it ugly, but it's nothing but one big blind spot. I have one as a rental for a week while my other, proper car is in the body shop. It seems no matter where I look in the thing, there's an unnecessary pillar of some sort blocking my view.
Also, there's an armrest, but it's so low you can't rest your elbow on it. What up with that?! - boozedrinker, on 11/06/2009, -1/+10The Enzo's speed alone more than makes up for its looks....***** Newsweek.
- KMartSheriff, on 11/06/2009, -3/+11You say that as if the Honda Insight were any better looking (protip: it's not).
- Cocomon24, on 11/06/2009, -2/+9It looks like an orthopedic shoe
- Apex3, on 11/06/2009, -2/+9*****
- ThaDRD, on 11/06/2009, -0/+7This argument is garbage. Look at this chart. There are many cars with the same (or around the same) drag coefficient that aren't ugly:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_drag_coeff ... - heliumflash, on 11/06/2009, -2/+8This shouldn't surprise anyone
- jayskulls, on 11/06/2009, -7/+13The Prius isn't that ugly. Neither is the Prowler or the DeLorean. The DeLorean has always been one of my favorite cars. That list is stupid.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6You're one of those people with poor taste and no sense of style?
Interesting... - rjey, on 11/06/2009, -7/+13"Is the Prius really that ugly?"
Yes, yes it is. - gsensel, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6Ok some are hideous (ie Aztek), but others are not. I think ultimately they wanted 50 in 50 years so they padded it out. There are ones on the list that I have never heard anyone say anything negative about.
- whatthefu, on 11/06/2009, -8/+13It's actually kind of fun to drive. I don't think it's ugly.
- Kardde, on 11/06/2009, -5/+10I didn't buy my Prius so I could have a hot-looking car. Besides, the Prius was designed to have a perfect aerodynamic profile. I expect future cars will start becoming more and more similar to that shape.
- s8nzsj, on 11/06/2009, -1/+6Time for a newer look.
- SRSco, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5Cool story, bro.
- Apex3, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5How you could think the new Beetle isn't ugly is beyond me
Then again you don't think the Prius is ugly, which I don't get either. At least the Aztec is practical and useful(look into it if you don't believe me). - dafragsta, on 11/06/2009, -1/+6How could the Aztek become known as the poster example for "Fugly Car" and the Prius not get a little acknowledgment for it's own fugliness. THere are undeniable parallels in the looks.
- ldsan, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5irony in your second sentence.
- aychseven, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5"superfluous..." "overcompensation" i guess they never heard of aerodynamics
- samespbn, on 11/06/2009, -2/+6And that isnt biased being on Treehugger.com /sarcasm.
- Apex3, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4Yea, I'm not getting that one either. From that alone you can tell whoever wrote this knows nothing about cars.
- inactive, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4I like the hybrid and I think it is kinda cool, i would trade my car for it.
PT cruiser looks like ass though just my 2 cents. - boozedrinker, on 11/06/2009, -2/+6This has the BMW 7 series...I call *****.
- dmazzoni, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4i have a 2005 prius, i usually get 45 miles to the gallon but i've gotten as high as 55 on one 10-gallon tank (so 550 miles). 600 on one tank of gas is not at all impossible, but most people will only get 450.
- prolikewhoa, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4Agreed. Ugliest car in years.
- ThaATrain, on 11/06/2009, -3/+7I've always wondered why they make hybrids so ugly...at least they used to
- MaxxusFlamus, on 11/06/2009, -2/+5It's not a car that was designed to look good- it was a car designed to minimize drag at highway speeds.
- jimbo92107, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3You get over the dull looks when you see how little gasoline it uses.
Why didn't Toyota make a hybrid Del Sol? - Apex3, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3That's because they put no thought into design, they just picked a cheap easy way to get a low drag coefficient.
My car is on that list, it has a better coeffient than a Veyron! Yes! Before wind tunnels, that's kind of sad actually. - Apex3, on 11/06/2009, -1/+4When was the last time you saw someone in a Beetle that WASN'T a teenage girl, or someone who wishes they were? And we all know the Prius wasn't a success based on looks.
And I didn't say the Aztec was a success, I didn't say it was pretty, I said it was more practical and useful, which it is. - ldsan, on 11/06/2009, -3/+6my boss got one. he let me drive it. it aint pretty, and i felt like people were staring and laughing, but it does go 600 miles on 10 gallons of gas.
- adminmatt, on 11/06/2009, -1/+4my vote:
http://www.nissanusa.com/cube/ - jpate86, on 11/06/2009, -8/+11No doubt it is horribly ugly. You don't buy a Prius so you can have a "hot" car. You buy a Prius for economic and environmental reasons.
- seraph1982, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3you retard, you can't have more windows without having more pillars to anchor them to
- seraph1982, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Have you considered questioning your taste? Or perhaps what taste is?
- djhash, on 11/06/2009, -1/+4Aerodynamic profile = (Drag coefficient x Drag Area )
From your own link..
"While designers pay attention to the overall shape of the automobile, they also bear in mind that reducing the frontal area of the shape helps reduce the drag. The combination of drag coefficient and area is CdA (or CxA), a multiplication of the Cd value by the area.
In aerodynamics, the product of some reference area (such as cross-sectional area, total surface area, or similar) and the drag coefficient is called drag area. In 2003, Car and Driver adapted this metric and adopted it as a more intuitive way to compare the aerodynamic efficiency of various automobiles. Average full-size passenger cars have a drag area of roughly 8.5 ft² (.79 m²). Reported drag area ranges from the 1999 Honda Insight at 5.1 ft² (.47 m²) to the 2003 Hummer H2 at 26.3 ft² (2.44 m²). The drag area of a bicycle is also in the range of 6.5-7.5 ft².[23]" - uevan, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Have you seen it in green? I cried.
- dmazzoni, on 11/06/2009, -2/+5This is a myth.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jennifer-grayson/eco ... - SRSco, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3And he truly is a bro:
http://digg.com/users/greenfirefly/h.png - inactive, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3I saw some schmuck the other day driving around with FLAMES painted on their PT Cruiser!
- Apex3, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Yes, yes they are
