- tgbauer77, on 09/09/2009, -0/+37Ridiculous. How is the frail mantis strong enough to hold that bird?! Wow.
- inactive, on 09/09/2009, -1/+28WTF happened to grasshopper?
- Foxprowl, on 09/09/2009, -0/+26Hummingbirds weigh about 5g, roughly the same weight as a nickel. The Chitin in the mantis' exoskeleton (and all insect exoskeleton) allow it to lift many times it's own weight.
- jerryjamesstone, on 09/09/2009, -0/+24I picture two kids in their perspective Spidey and Batman suits being held hostage by Praying Mantis'
- AmyVernon, on 09/09/2009, -0/+23Holy crap! We have mantises in our backyard and the kids are fascinated by them. After seeing this, though, I'm gonna give them a wider berth.
- Foxprowl, on 09/09/2009, -1/+19At least he's saying Grace before the meal
- MacBookForMe, on 09/09/2009, -0/+13Look that they won't smash those poor mantises after seeing this pic
- Zarokima, on 09/10/2009, -0/+12The Flying Spaghetti Mantis, of course!

"The mantis used its spiny left foreleg to impale the hummingbird through the chest while leaving his right leg free."
Damn, I'm never trying to touch one of those *****. I don't want to have my finger impaled! - da233, on 09/10/2009, -0/+10...Or maybe it doesn't want to eat anything smaller than a human
- jerryjamesstone, on 09/09/2009, -0/+9Hulk Smash!
- heynow21, on 09/10/2009, -0/+9I'll take on a ***** praying mantis, I'm 6 feet tall and bench like 170.

- inactive, on 09/10/2009, -0/+5... and the mantis went to all the trouble to drag it up to perch upside and eat it like that, just so we'd think it caught the bird on its own?
- eeeeeeeeeeeeeee, on 09/10/2009, -0/+5So last week I was getting ready for my driving test. Pretty nervous, and I had to wake up early to boot. I sat in my kitchen and contemplated what next to do. When suddenly, I spotted out my back door, an epic battle had begun between a praying mantis and a bumblebee.
The bee hovered above the mantis, just behind it's head where the mantis couldn't reach. For minutes they writhed, each one locked in place by the other. By this time, I was actually getting bored. But up to the last second, I watched intently to see who would be victorious in this battle royale.
Finally, when it seemed that both had stopped moving, with the mantis laying on its side and the bee locked in the mantis' arms right below its mouth, it would seem logical to guess that the mantis had won. It looked like it was eating its fallen enemy.
However, the bee began to rise from the arena on my deck. It seemed weighed down, and indeed, it was carrying the head of the mantis!
Every few minutes, the bee would come back to nibble off more and more to take back to the colony.
I wasn't nervous for my driving test anymore. - digitalArtform, on 09/10/2009, -0/+5It was catch and release, though. They just snap them out of the air for the fun of it. Sometimes I toss them empty beer cans.
- DuxBelorum, on 09/10/2009, -1/+5Might be a close fight.
- latexsolarbeef, on 09/09/2009, -1/+5Bad. Ass.
- nbaughman, on 09/10/2009, -2/+6That thing comes by my house, I'LL KILL IT!
- AmnesiacJack, on 09/10/2009, -0/+3"I'm from Buenos Aires, and I say kill 'em all! " - Johnny Rico
- a117, on 09/10/2009, -0/+3That mantis caught a hummingbird. A HUMMINGBIRD!! They're the F-35's of the all bird species... AND THAT ***** CAUGHT IT! WITH ITS HANDS!!!
So I ask you... WHERE'S YOUR GOD NOW? - fxdbi, on 09/10/2009, -0/+3A praying mantis killed my neighbor's cousin.
- catcher6250, on 09/10/2009, -1/+4You want to see some mantes getting their asses kicked?
Here you go:
http://www.japanesebugfights.com/ - fragMasterFlash, on 09/10/2009, -0/+3Behold the powah of prayer. Praise Jeebus and pass the ammunition.
- Neiby, on 09/10/2009, -1/+3I have a mantis that big and it must be a total pussy. I put a big grasshopper in the terrarium and that ***** mantis still hasn't eaten it after two and a half days. I guess the little pansy doesn't want anything bigger than a cricket.
- ZonGuy, on 09/10/2009, -1/+3We got to pray just to make it today.
- nbaughman, on 09/10/2009, -0/+2Mantis FTW!
- jsffive, on 09/10/2009, -0/+2This proves that Mantis style Kung Fu is much stronger than Humming bird style.
- rayb0t, on 09/10/2009, -0/+2obligatory zorak comment
- a117, on 09/10/2009, -0/+2I love Japan.
- fromantis, on 09/10/2009, -0/+2Hell yes, fellow mantis.
- hummstheword, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1Must have been a republican mantis.
- dlan4327, on 09/10/2009, -1/+2Sometimes I wonder who they are praying to.
- AmalgamR, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1Vicious beats they are!
- brickwall99, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1"Don’t ever mess with a praying mantis."
WTF is he going to do to me if I step on his ass? Nothing. - dotorg, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1Unless your children are an inch long and weigh 5 grams, I wouldn't be too concerned.
They squish as easily as any other bug. - eleece722, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1As long as I am bigger than a hummingbird, I have nothing to worry about
- the2989, on 09/11/2009, -0/+1Why? It's not gonna try to kill you.
- scarlettletter, on 09/10/2009, -1/+2I guess the bird didn't flap its wings as fast as we thought it could!
- SpazAttack5000, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1Hey there Mr. Mantis, you're beautiful.
- TheEighth, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1And lead us not too far from the bottom of this red thing,
but deliver us to some kind of hummingbird,
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen. - ljkelley, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1I used to have a praying mantis as a pet when I was a child. Used to feed it roaches, but it also loved climbing on my sister, eating her hair.
- packers2009, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1I don't know what's cooler, praying mantis or psycho mantis!!
- AlienMushroom, on 09/10/2009, -0/+1It's been praying for a hummingbird ever since it was born. Give it a break.
- cm2k, on 09/10/2009, -0/+0Ok, but how does he seriously think he's going to eat it?!!!
