- llamarama7, on 04/07/2009, -2/+46Awesome: America's two best cities caught up in a battle to the death!
- AndrewDB, on 04/08/2009, -7/+23Everyone be on the look out for a Smug Alert for San Francisco and Portland.
- rusty123jimi, on 04/08/2009, -2/+18GO Portland...I love it here! Such a nice and clean city! =)
- Popninety, on 04/08/2009, -4/+20Being a resident of Portland this is really exciting news!
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -2/+16People who regurgitate "smug" jokes not only have nothing constructive to add, but they actually work against progress by ridiculing those who have the foresight which they lack.
In short, shut the ***** up about smug and let the future leaders of America take care of business. - Schmapdi, on 04/08/2009, -0/+14I'm sure it's a friendly rivalry - it's not like Portlanders are going to be bombing electric car ports to get ahead of San Fran in the race for dominance or anything.
- cityscape, on 04/08/2009, -0/+13San Francisco and Portland are two great American cities, I hope it works out for both of them.
- itstodd, on 04/08/2009, -1/+12and LA is bringing up the rear in neighbors with mustaches...
- stutimandal, on 04/08/2009, -1/+11Co-operate! Please co-operate! Exchange information and learn from each others' mistakes or successes.
- jasdf, on 04/08/2009, -1/+11Competition is good!
- thatwasawkward, on 04/08/2009, -1/+9I love Portland.
- taylorr05, on 04/08/2009, -2/+9PDX REPRESENT!
- Maynza, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6When they are competing over electric cars everyone wins.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6those EVs will need some pretty powerful batteries to get much range on those hills.
- enantiodromia, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6No this is a war I can support!
- pingveno, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5Come on Seattle, join the brawl! All of the cool West Coast states are doing it!
- one504, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5Superior barley pops for the win!
- enantiodromia, on 04/08/2009, -2/+7(random regurgitated line from a show someone else wrote years ago)
- colincornaby, on 04/08/2009, -2/+7Portland FTW!
- armourer, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5Admittedly, there's a lot less direct sunlight in the Pacific Northwest though.
- bdbr, on 04/08/2009, -1/+5Portland has been limiting sprawl for decades. It sucks that we all have extremely small yards, but along with a thriving public transportation system it also means that drives are generally short as well. EVs should have plenty of range for most local driving.
- draemalic, on 04/08/2009, -2/+6Maybe you should re-read the article
"“Electric vehicles have the possibility to transform our economy, revive our car industry, and improve our environment. To make sure electric vehicles succeed this time around we need to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in battery technology and [charging] infrastructure.”
That little part about transforming our economy might have something to do with it. - Thumper13, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3Look, I love my city, but Portland already has that.
We don't need more.
Still, anything to bring more money to the region. - AquaOSX, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3Although, really, if you live and work in SF, leaving your car in your garage can save you a LOT of headaches. A tank of gas lasts me forever around here. Although, this might be handy if you commute to the city and drive a plug-in hybrid.
- Toloran, on 04/08/2009, -1/+4You obviously aren't familiar with SF and Portland. Around here, if you say you are gay, people will respond with "Yeah, and?"
- enantiodromia, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3do you even know what smug means?
you don't think you're cool because you are smug, you are smug because you think you are cool. - lfroker, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2This is excellent, theres nothing like competition to speed up innovation
- cheez124, on 04/08/2009, -5/+7Portland FTW, SF is already waaaaaaaay to smug.
- PopcornDave, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2If you're in SF you HAVE to leave your car in the garage because there's so little street parking to begin with.
- barfooz, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2If you're living and working in SF, having a car doesn't make sense, unless you've got more money than you know what to do with. Paying $150-200 a month for parking in a city with great public transportation is dumb.
- laguano, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2I don't understand why you're getting dugg down.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2Its the exact same thing as the people who go "Penicillin? Man was not meant to know such things! God will smite you for your pride! (and understanding things that make me feel stupid)"
- K2H7, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2In case anyone wasn't aware, he's referencing a Simpsons episode.
http://www.hostedfile.com/videos/5734/simpsons-ele ... - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2hopefully neither will try competing to become the biggest producer of alkaline - the batteries most important ingredient.
unless they like acid rain. - Mysticcal, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2TBH I really don't think SF has any smug, there's treefreaks here, sure, there are also priuses, yes. But alot more in Berkeley.
We're just as diverse as LA or NY. and we really don't care about how you think we're all grouped in with a stereotype.
kthx
-San Francisco - lancedice, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Whoever loses is still a winner, nice
- barfooz, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Well, in terms of coverage at least, it is great. I'm on J Church luckily and those run a lot better than the buses.
- Enlefo, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Word to that! PDX and San Fran both kick ass. I live in Portland and I'd love to get a job in the electric car industry... I am also a big Nissan fan so this is great news for me.
- consciousman, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1I hope this Idea open up a lot of Jobs Opportunities in San Francisco, so I can move there soon.
- bipolarruledout, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Portland is a lot of fun and one of the least expensive west coast cities.
- bwjacket, on 04/08/2009, -2/+3And that is the definition of a "pillow fight".
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Yes, because its so fun to hate people that fix the world then ask us to get our ***** together too.
- AquaOSX, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1I'm not about to start calling MUNI "great."
- kingp43, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1nah.... you can have the "very far", but the rest is just being uninformed

White Zombie 11.5 second electric quarter mile - Enlefo, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Boo ya PDX!
- imnojezus, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1YeahYEAH
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Whats up on electric motorcycles? Anyone know?
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1This is out of the blue, but I think if they made like an electric car crash derby that would get the muggles on board. They have this image of electric cars being for smart but girly men. 12 electric cars crashing smashing and or exploding would fix that right up!
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1i love naked women.
