- AriaStar, on 11/10/2007, -0/+59I hope that no one will be eating that fish, but I get this sick feeling that that's exactly what will end up happening.
- thickdrummer, on 11/10/2007, -3/+54"Give a man a fish and he can feed his family for a day."
"Give a man 30,000kg of fish an...no, wait...what?" - mattcampbell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+50digg needs a picture section.

- 007ami, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31This is an amazing picture, and an incredible tragedy. Here are some additional pictures; http://www.china.org.cn/english/environment/216818.htm and http://china-environmental-news.blogspot.com/2007/06/what-does-275000-pounds-of-dead-fish.html .
- OOTay, on 11/10/2007, -2/+25man that opened my eyes a bit, i knew it was bad but damn
- JohnDakota, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18At least the Chinese don't have to use cardboard in their dumplings anymore, or contaminate pet products with toxins.. they have a huge reserve of poisoned fish to pass around!
- Wacer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Give a man 30,000kg of fish from China and he can poison a city.
- TrickyTree, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14We are seriously pissing in the wind here, with our fortnightly recycling bin collections and home composting barrels - China and India are building so many ***** factories and power stations on a weekly basis it boggles the mind.
- Wildren, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Oh lord, what have we done?
- itseffinkasey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Man... if there was a lake filled with dead fish, that would be the very last place I would ever go.
- wright3279, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10It's a problem for us too. All their pollution doesn't stay in China. Here in west Texas there are hardly any power plants, but for years, our sunsets are more red than in the past. Culprit? power plants in Mexico. and dust from the Saharan desert reaches the U.S. Our atmosphere is really a very thin envelope around our planet. And I'm afraid things are going to be much worse for our grandchildren.
- sekaijin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8yet another wonderful example of human progress and economic development!
- gigabyte3d, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10That fish ends up on American shelves, LOL.

- shinynew, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I bet they are working in conjunction with the Aliens that were allied with the USSR and are controlling our president.
- chiggah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7The biggest enemy of mankind.
It's mankind itself. - Wacer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Proof?
- Saad85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6look at the other pics too. Personally, i think the satellite picture is the worst.
also, why the ***** is the yellow river.. uh, red? - spyrochaete, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6How much cooking is needed to make those fish edible? They died from breathing too much poison!
- twrife, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Not if you were starving =/
- geneticlemon, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10I cannot possibly fathom how people believe this country will one day surpass the US as the most powerful country in the world. How the hell do they expect to contend in the global community if they can't even take care of their own people?
- Dhalgren, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Holy crap. Did you see the red water?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/gallery/2007/jul/18/china.pollution?picture=330216021 - TheSubStylee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Wow, I didn't know China was so dirty. Shiiiiiiiit.
- Hangender, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9They are destroying their nation for the sake for "capitalism", how noble, aren't they?
- bias, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Incredible tragedy?! Wait til you see those fish on the Chinese markets.
- 3leggedHorse, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7We are all *****.

- mrgodai, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6the story made me thought about the 3 eyes fish near Mr Burn's Nuclear Power Plant
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -2/+6In that heat, I hope he has a terrible sense of smell.
- Wacer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Probably goes home and takes a shower in the water that comes from that pool.
- iluvudigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4watching this one irritates mind so much, man it's more painful than physical torture http://image.guim.co.uk/Guardian/news/gallery/2007/jul/18/china.pollution/GD4058921@Beijing,-CHINA-A-Chin-7482.jpg
- marcee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Chinese markets usually do not have dead fish on them, most of the people only buy alive fish, (they are usually in tanks at the market) and have them killed just then for them. One of the reasons for this, of course, is that it is the only sure way to know that what you are buying is fresh... and at least minimally healthy.
- shinynew, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5They need to have the news, the pictures, the videos, and then one with all of them.
- skwurlhunter, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I bet he smells GREAT at the end of the day.
- quaxon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4youre completely right, not signing kyoto is the one and only thing bush ever got right. many of the environmentalists and kyoto supporters often dont see this point.
- Timetheos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4So they should pollute here? I thought you conservatives like this type of thing: pollute over there so they don't pollute here. The missing part of the equation is trade; we should require our trade partners to abide by some minimum set of rules, preferably ours.
- andregriffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3We are packt like sardines in a crushd tin box.
- chiggah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Odd, I don't see that on the Ads they play on national cable TV to promote tourism to China.
It'll definitely make me want to go visit by about 2% more if they air this instead. - iluvudigg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Bury me down if you think I'm a racist i don't mind, but i cannot stop myself from posting this comment that Indians, Chinese, Bangladeshis & Pakistanis make me puke.. the way they look might not be in their hands but their lifestyle and the care for cleanliness ????? YUCK !
- Sarahgal, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I wonder what, exactly, is in that water.
- edebolt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Ironically China has decent environmental laws on the books but the communist system is so prone to corruption. For example a Mayor of a Chinese city will only be paid a modest salary and looks for bribes from industry to attain wealth for status. This is a common theme all over Asia and SEA with police officers. They don't pay them enough to live well and collect bribes regularly. Police in better developed countries get paid well and don't want to risk losing their desirable jobs.
The reforms necessary in China to change this situation will take quite a long time. Educated consumers in Chinese product importing nations who demand testing on products and willing to reject them will certainly help stimulate this change. - polarbeast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Some friends of mine and I are staying in Hubei province right now, and there's a lake up the road from us that's pretty similar to that one - not that bad, but it looks like someone threw confetti all over it. When you walk by there's just an unbearable stench of death and chemicals. The scary part is, it's not just one lake here and there - almost every place we've visited in China so far has the same level of intense pollution and low health standards, from deep brown rivers to huge mounds of trash that just build up in the streets. As bad as I find places like LA, I wasn't prepared for the staggering amount ofComfortingly, the place we're staying proudly serves "locally caught fish" every night...
- gonediggin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I wouldnt go in there if i were you mr chinaman
- justsomedigger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3seems like a net would work better..
- shortcircuit13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3And we're the primary supporter of their capitalism.
How noble, aren't we? - dschrute, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4That's why Sushi comes from Japan....
- colberrep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2and just like the libertarians want
- LonesomeFighter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2you know what happens to Chinese people who knowingly let their food be bad? they get the death penalty. Or at least that's what just happened to their head their kind of FDA.
