- eastwood24, on 12/12/2008, -2/+20First they wanted people to hug the trees. Now they want people to live with the trees. I see where this is going. You people are disgusting :)
- hnazareth16, on 12/12/2008, -1/+18We're one step closer to the Ewok/Wookie village.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6true, that would be really cool but it's either technology or nature!
this is NOT a stargate episode where you can use laser while climbing a tree,
either drop your car and things that won't work in the woods or the plan is going to fail! - malex, on 12/12/2008, -2/+8Actually, we need them to support unique ecosystems, maintain watersheds, and biological medicines that are far more valuable than short-term, unsustainable agriculture.
This is actually good for the local economy. You would probably see that if you thought about it. - 1jaxstate1, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7A article about tree people, and NO PICS. Sigh, I really wanted to see the tree people.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+4i like the idea
i think that was one of frank lloyd wright's principles: to work around nature not bulldoze it flat and then build - elfprince13, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3lemme know when the colonization call for Kashyyyk comes in.
- jeffersongo, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3They aren't cutting down forests to develop industry you moron! Mostly it is for agriculture, cattle raising, logging, mining, and other land-intensive uses (see http://www.wrm.org.uy/deforestation/index.html). And in most cases, the countries would be better off using less destructive methods.
- toxsid, on 12/12/2008, -2/+5"I have a dream that one day trees will be payed to live among people." - Martin Luther Tree Jr.
- matude, on 12/12/2008, -1/+4Not necessarily, if there's no shortage of room then why not build streets wide enough to fit many trees on both sides. I mean, a city could be integrated with a forest, if planned properly.
You could live in an eco-friendly house, that produces all of it's water and electricity on it's own and is totally surrounded by high trees. Cars could even be put into underground tunnels and the whole city surface could be a really green pedestrian area, with some futuristic electric no-pollution trains etc.
Maybe a cold-fusion nuclear plant somewhere near the city to provide electricity to proper clean public transport and to some houses that don't have high-efficient solar panels.
/One can dream... - malex, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3But they don't have to destroy their forests to develop industry.
- icabodane, on 12/12/2008, -2/+5What are you talking about and why are you so angry? Also, who is "we"? Do you mean to say that you are part of an organization that is actively screwing the forest dwelling peoples of the world over by helping refrain from destroying their local ecosystems and live green? Really? You're a dumbass, and the people digging you up and burying Malex are also dumbasses. Then you throw "pathetic" on the end to really make it sound like you know what's up.
pathetic. - MadEnvoy, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3http://www.weirdasianews.com/wp-content/uploads/20 ...

- bowens44, on 12/12/2008, -1/+3Did you even bother reading the article?
I thought not. - MorganMghee, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2I live in a poorly developed county, can you pay me?
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2/dreaming is good
dreaming into manifestation is fantastic
and possible - elfprince13, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2and not everyone needs help with body hair either.
- MiGs2, on 12/12/2008, -0/+2Paid to live in trees, and grow more body hair, then we're on the right track.
- lemur, on 12/12/2008, -1/+3Well I knew that humans and fish can coexist peacefully, but trees? I don't know, man...
- malex, on 12/12/2008, -1/+2Really? Why is that?
- mykool, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1Save the Trees - Grow the Weed! The growth of hemp and marijuana for the use of making paper would put a tremendous dent in the number of trees that need to be cut down.
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1You people are out of your minds. Here is proof...
http://digg.com/comedy/Are_Environmentalists_Asham ... - whatthefu, on 12/12/2008, -1/+2Are you scared of bugs?
- Gunshock, on 12/12/2008, -1/+2This is a great idea.
- ligyron, on 12/12/2008, -2/+3I don't need technology anyway
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -5/+6Yes lets make sure that people in developing countries dont cut down those trees, because WE NEED THEM FOR US IN THE FUTURE!
pathetic. - btschul, on 12/12/2008, -1/+2http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc210/christyss ...

- spyd3rweb, on 12/12/2008, -1/+2Which is all industry.
- Mootabolife, on 12/13/2008, -1/+2What till they get to the whales.
- jeffersongo, on 12/12/2008, -2/+3Paying subsidies to third world governments is like throwing money in a hole. It would better to put a tariff on imports of goods whose production results in deforestation.
For a good website on the causes of deforestation, see http://www.wrm.org.uy/deforestation/index.html - BlaenkDenum, on 12/13/2008, -1/+2We're outsourcing tree hugging now too? A sign of the times...

You might think it is a good idea to tell these third world countries to save their trees.
Imagine what the US would be like if we followed our own advice.
The midwest was once covered in 80% forest. Have you driven the highways recently? It is all farmland.
Why should we tell others how to manage their resources when the US is busy giving what little protected natural habitat over to oil companies, loggers, and snow mobile enthusiasts. Is the US working to reestablish it's natural forests? - Spuby, on 12/12/2008, -2/+2Paid to live high ... hmm.
- MiGs2, on 12/12/2008, -1/+1Tree Top Town style from Donkey Kong Country anybody?
- junkneo, on 12/12/2008, -2/+2Treehuggers wanted: Must be non-smokers.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -4/+4LOL.
These people make me laugh. - djt992, on 12/12/2008, -1/+1Sounds like fun to me :P
