- electricwaffles, on 11/25/2008, -9/+40IT'S OVER 900!!!!
- naturalpapa, on 11/25/2008, -5/+35Change is probably more likely on a local level. Good to see local leaders behind this.
- jerryjamesstone, on 11/25/2008, -7/+32Well, this is great. The more representation the better chance of ***** getting done!
- marklad2020, on 11/25/2008, -9/+27And still they deny that global warming is a reality....
- ProfessorRiffs, on 11/26/2008, -2/+132nd time of posting the same comment in the same article... don't be a jerkwad, we heard ya just fine the first time.
- ldner77, on 11/26/2008, -2/+13Doesn't matter whether "Global Warming" is real or not... We are polluting the plant and you can taste it in the air, and I for one get sick of having a big Mack drive by and getting a face full of noxious gas. It would be like running a gas powered vacuum cleaner, computer, dishwasher, and TV all in the small proximity of your house; when one looks on the global scale, what we are doing is essentially the same thing.
Is global warming a myth? Maybe it is. Is pollution gross? ***** yeah. - Renton, on 11/26/2008, -1/+10Yeah, damn those leftist politicians for spending 600 billion dollars of our money in the Iraq War. Oh wait...
- greenfyre, on 11/26/2008, -2/+10The science is here

Not on wingnut sites that try and push that pathetic Monckton hoax

I wanted to see how Jerry Springer has become a Mayor, but found out that the submitter used a "related article" image. - omegared, on 11/26/2008, -1/+5"Brazil, Russia, India and China go ape ***** crazy producing carbon emissions."
America emits more carbon per capita than all those countries. - jerryjamesstone, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4What great info! thank you for sharing that.
- killerpuppy, on 11/26/2008, -4/+8i really like this approach. .. this is great news
- angryredplanet, on 11/26/2008, -1/+5@mwrl
With no environment, there is no industry, yet Industry (process and pollution) destroys the environment. That logical flow is one way and leads to one conclusion. We can't continue to aspire to unsustainable consumerism based lifestyles, the process of turning resources into garbage faster than nature can turn them back into resources. "Stuff" doesn't come from nowhere.
Infinite economic growth is a figment in the imaginations of economists and politicians. You'd do well to unlearn that notion. - davidryal, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4not anymore.
- terenceyap7, on 11/26/2008, -2/+6I see this as a clear sign of better things to come - long overdue, if I might add!!!
- MorganMghee, on 11/25/2008, -3/+6Local leaders are more responsive to your calls, letters and visits. Type your county, borough or district name and the phrase 'elected officials' into a search engine to get contact information for your area. But don't give up on your state reps: http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml And if you own property or businesses in other areas, call those officials too!
- whereisben, on 11/26/2008, -2/+5and as we all learned in the 08 election, being mayor is just about the most responsibility you can possibly have...except for governor, that is.
- Gerticus, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3That's how the representative system works, buddy.
- BossKey, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3One of the biggest talking points of the older Republican Party was "local control"...states and cities over the Feds. But now the Republicans don't want to listen to mayors, and would rather impost large new federal programs like TSA and Homeland Security.
- spyd3rweb, on 11/26/2008, -4/+7Of course global climate change is real, it happens all the time, it happened before humans even existed.
- greenfyre, on 11/26/2008, -2/+4How about addressing the actual science instead of making silly comments?
http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Some-of-the-climate-ch ... - arielh85, on 11/25/2008, -4/+6agreed!
- greenfyre, on 11/26/2008, -2/+41) Try looking at the science
http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Some-of-the-climate-ch ...
2) A semi coming at you at 150 mph doesn't change your life while it is still 200 ft away ... so you would just stand there? - MrSlumberjack, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3Grow up and learn the difference between climate and weather.
- omegared, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3yes, that is why dbzssj44676 you should not post comments.
- angryredplanet, on 11/26/2008, -2/+4and it was also just as pathetic as the first time..
- Jforsyth89, on 11/26/2008, -6/+8IT'S OVER 9000E-1 !!!!!!!!!!!
- greenfyre, on 11/26/2008, -5/+7How about you address the science instead of silly paranoid claims
http://debunking.pbwiki.com/Some-of-the-climate-ch ... - anonymous1986, on 11/26/2008, -1/+2................... words fail me when i think about the stupidity required to come up with a comment such as that.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1900 city mayors, is not 900 scientist. most mayors like most Americans are dumb as owl *****. if i got 900 mayors to say the sky is pink, would that convince you it was?
doing something about global climate change is one thing, its another to blame humans and tax us for it.
can you tax the earth for it omitting co2?
America, the land of the people who think they are free. they cant even come up with something on their own, they need someone like al gore or a celebrity to pump them up with lies about why people with no money should front the burden of a natural cycle of the planet.
dont you idiots forget, in the 70's they talked about global cooling because it was the in thing. - vbullinger, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1Don't lose sight of that fact, naturalpapa: power needs to lie within smaller units of government, not centralized government.
This is true in all areas. Do not cede any power to large groups, no matter what.
Don't give up personal freedom.
Don't allow the state to take jurisdiction over municipalities.
Don't allow the federal government to take jurisdiction over the states.
Don't allow regional or world governments to take jurisdiction over our country.
These hold true EVEN IF YOU AGREE WITH THE MEASURE! Even if you say "I agree with this proposal," don't get sucked into allowing sovereignty - be it personal, municipal, state or federal - to be handed over to a larger group, thus consolidating power even more. We are marching down this path, full speed ahead.
Oh, and, back on topic: even if you disagree with the theories of global warming/climate change proponents, it doesn't appear to me that this article is particularly relevant: they're talking about lowering pollution. This isn't taxing carbon or blaming man for changes in our climate, it's just saying, "hey, let's stop polluting the planet." I think we can all agree with that. We pollute our air, water and soil all day, every day. And I'm very conservative and DON'T agree with the global warming crowd. - coyote1284, on 11/26/2008, -1/+2Well, we know for a fact Iraq *had* WMDs. We still have the sale receipts.
The most extreme of the "Global Warming" camp will tell you we are already *****. The semi (they can get up to 150mph?) for them is only 20 feet away and there's no possible chance of getting out of the way, yet they've no idea what to do to prepare for the collision to increase our chance of survival.
That said, I don't believe there is anything wrong with trying to be better custodians of our world. That is something we should always strive for as the industrious, rational and intelligent species on this planet. My only contention is that that initiative is being fueled by fear. - Ymeg, on 11/26/2008, -7/+8I am very glad the government has made it their initiative to bully businesses.
- digitronix, on 11/26/2008, -2/+3/s?
- Observant1, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1bankster bailouts.. lets see.. 4.3 trillion divided by 200 million is 21,500 each. more than enough to put solar and wind power on every rooftop saving everyone over 1,000 every year. GM could go into producing permanent magnet versions of their own alternators for small windmills (for less than small companies do) and might not need a bailout, someone(s) mass producing grid-feed inverters, so battery storage is not required, brings the price of inverters down. the surplus energy would pay for servicing and replacements. "carbon footprint" is reduced and no need for the whole ***** carbon tax. Geothermal power could replace the nuclear power plants so we arent running around throwing depleted uranium at each other, Iran could have electricity without a potential for nuclear weapons and Israel could maybe STFU with their fear mongering threats about it, if the US were to able show them the program. big foreign corporations want US land to build MEGA-WINDMILLS and charge us for the electricity, and that kind of idea gets approval with eminent domain land seizure, gee thanks?
big energy isnt gonna go out of business or stop making money if all the homes producing power are grid connected, they're going to need more service techs to maintain it. so theres manufacturing, installation, maintenance, JOBS.. always means taxes and profits doesnt it?
$1000 a year saved by 200 million homes is 2 trillion dollars, the government will end up with half of it anyway, it is what they do.
its a better solution than what these thieving looters are doing. power to the people.
we'd be "going green" and creating tons of work doing it instead of doing nothing and carbon taxing the people while looting an already bankrupt treasury. 4 billion invested returning a billion every year for many many years (life expectancy of solar cells about 20-25 years) while giving cleaner power to BE productive with. it makes a lot more sense than a bunch of illiterate non-productive "youth brigades" running around. manufacturers could have electricity very cheap, more production and profit is more taxes, every time. - dbzssj44676, on 11/26/2008, -3/+4greenfyre, have you ever considered learning what these "silly paranoid claims" are.
Or are you as your name suggests, a tool for the sole purpose of disinformation? - greenfyre, on 11/26/2008, -1/+2China may have passed the US in total emissions, but per capita emissions are still 20 to 25% that of the US
- mwrl, on 11/26/2008, -3/+4Industry fuels the world, it causes pollution. Without one you don't have the other. Without industry you don't have a country. I'll stick with pollution and filter it out thank you.
- MrSlumberjack, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1Once again, climate =/= weather.
"Climate encompasses the temperatures, humidity, rainfall, atmospheric particle count and numerous other meteorogical factors in a given region *over long periods of time*, as opposed to the term weather, which refers to current activity."
-wiki - MrSlumberjack, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1NASA, fraud. APS, fraud. Everybody is becoming frauds!
/s - scoottie, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1lol @ Mayors, thats almost as useful as having the bum that goes through my trash sign that.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+2I think that there is a lot of money to be made on the propaganda of man made global warming. I think its a joke to use an opion poll as a scientific method.
Global warming is not going to save america. Peoples energy could be better spent doing jumping jax.
Adding another ***** tax to the american people isnt going to save this failing nation of idiots. - TheMoniker, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1It's funny that people like you, who probably couldn't even define 'albedo' come on here and start calling everyone "dumb *****." Listen, do us all a favour and grab a pen and a piece of paper, then, once you've done that, write down the Navier-Stokes equations off the top of your head along with a little note under each term, explaining what they mean. Then, define briefly jot down the carbon cycle and explain briefly the western intensification. You couldn't do it, could you? --And that's because, for all of your arrogance, you don't know the first damn thing. Listen, the data from Nimbus7, ACRIM I onSMM, ERBE on ERBS, ACRIM II on UARS, VIRGO on SOHO, and ACRIM III on ACRIM-Sat show clearly* that the solar cycles are not responsible.

We also know that we have a clear warming trend globally**, with the seas absorbing most of that heat and some of it going into the atmosphere***.

- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -2/+2Wow, just in time for Global Warming to be changed to Climate Change to be changed to Global Cooling. Can barely predict the weather one week out, but we're supposed to accept as "FACT" that Earth is doomed in a hundred years because of CO2 emissions. Yep, dimestore science and Chicken Little meet at last.
- Desolite, on 11/26/2008, -3/+3it is? then why is it so ***** cold in Massachusetts?
- randumbusername, on 11/26/2008, -1/+1i see "climate change" as propaganda but on the positive side i rather see bottom up movement than top down
- greenfyre, on 11/26/2008, -10/+10As usual, dead wrong spaz
