- rtittle, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Why is the government forcing us to use these bulbs if they KNOW it is a health hazard? I started using these type bulbs thinking I would be saving energy and money. What scares me is the last time I bought a pack of these, I went to screw in one and did not know it had a crack in the glass and broke right in my hand. Now I hear that it is a health hazard. What in the world have I exposed my 10 month old baby to?
- Gfreed, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3I don't understand something? We used to relamp entire office buildings with thousands of six foot fluorescent lamps. The old lamps were ground to dust by this device that looked like a wood chipper. We had hundreds of 55 gallon drums full of shredded lamps. Now if one of these very small CFL lamps are so dangerous. what of all these other fluorescent lamps we've been using since the 1940's? Why is it that my MSDS data sheets are not showing these fluorescent lamps as super hazardous? I can't keep WD-40 in the shop because its carcinogenic and there for considered hazardous material. An MSDS sheet isn't even required for Fluorescent lamps! Someone's got something messed up somewhere!
- mozartwt, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Because if we put all the pieces together, life means nothing to the government--only power and money. And the sicker we are, the less we'll be likely to fight them successfully.
Just take a look at what the FDA continues to approve for our consumption and the lies the CDC crams down our throats. It's the only conclusion I can come to, anyway... - 8thAAFWW2, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2when o when is America going to return to being a Jeffersonian Democracy, instead of becoming a socialistic, paternalist, and autocratic government? When is the Federal Government going to start following the Constitution?
- planet87, on 08/12/2008, -2/+4Never Mind. Don't read this... Even if somebody gets sick from this, I'm sure the messiah will be able to heal them. At least you'll have the pleasure of knowing you took one for everybody else.
Also, this would be a great cause for John Edwards to pick up now that his political career is over. I won't hold my breath (unless one of these breaks). - ScottyDog1, on 08/15/2008, -0/+18thAAFW
I could not agree more.
The Federal Government is out of control. Most of the pin heads that work there have utter contempt for our Constitution, freedom and liberty.
There is no legal authority for them to tell Americans which kind of light bulbs to buy or the idiotic CAFE standards that have created another bureaucracy telling automakers how to build or cars and trucks.
Americans should be afraid of what kind of Government we are getting in return. - Christianptriot, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1The answer to this is simple: follow the money.
- exring, on 08/17/2008, -0/+0I'm impressed by the diversity of comments...not. The US government is not forcing anyone to use this product. They are an outgrowth of the US doing huge amounts of business with China where most of these bulbs are manufactured.
If you are concerned about how much mercury is in this product, don't use them and properly dispose of the ones you have so you do not contaminate the rest of us.
If you are really concerned, convince your friends and co-workers to properly dispose of the bulbs they have.
Reducing the power needed to generate light by a factor of 5 or so and reducing the heat generated by an even greater factor multiplied by the number of light bulbs in this country is a very large number. Maybe large enough to free up enough generation capability to power the electric cars that the media is trying to convince us are so good. Just don't become involved in an auto accident with one of those battery cars. If the battery is ruptured the problems with these little bulbs will seem minuscule by comparison. - TexOkie, on 08/12/2008, -2/+2So what is the problem? We poison ourselves and our youth to the point that mankind can no longer viably reproduce, the human species vanishes from Earth and the global warming problem is solved. Perfect solution.
