- Dinsdale77, on 03/03/2009, -15/+124Undoing the blatant insanity of the Bush years. I bet Sean Hannity will find some stupid reason to decry this as being socialist and anti-american, just wait.
- valimar77, on 03/04/2009, -12/+69The bush changes would have had animal rights eviscerated
in lieu of corporate interests.
This has nothing to do with the stimulus and everything to do with common sense.
A Good call for the President. - fotoman607, on 03/04/2009, -3/+46I think Obama's first four years will just be canceling things the bush administration did.
- atomicpoet, on 03/03/2009, -11/+39Maybe we'll hold off on some of that Alaska drilling.
- KnowMad1982, on 03/04/2009, -7/+34davidg11: "You guys should know that most of these studies these days have to do with some sort of bug, moss, or small insignificant plant"
Insignificant? Do you realize the influence those 'insignificant' plants and 'grubs' have on the balance of life on this planet?
Just because YOU dont know anything about them, does NOT make them insignificant. Typical Republican...
Thank god you guys are now an endangered species. - ReinMasamuri, on 03/04/2009, -10/+30I don't know why you're being dugg down, it's true.
10 years to do a study = 10 years of government funding. - Johnnehblazes, on 03/04/2009, -4/+23research must be done!
i hit a bunny a week or so ago. :x
and it had a collar on :x - genjiworks, on 03/04/2009, -2/+2010 years on a report. Are you guys getting your information from 'Simpsons' or the 'Family Guy' they do not take 10 years sometimes they take less then a month. The reason companies are bitching is because it might cost them more to put roads or buildings around an endangered species enviroment. I don't care... I'm still pissed off! My child wants to se a Dodo bird... and it's extinct. RIP Dodo.
- nihilville, on 03/04/2009, -4/+22Piece by piece we are seeing the most egregious errors and crimes of the Bush administration being dismantled and rectified. No project is so important that it's worth breaking the law over.
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -3/+20Preserve the ecosystem or fill some ***** wallet with more money, hmmmm.
- Jeepy, on 03/04/2009, -3/+19A story so nice we FP'd it twice.
- morgens2, on 03/04/2009, -4/+17Yes, but probably 99.8% of those were from nature, while many of the ones that are endangered today are a result of human activity and irresponsibility.
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -1/+14wtf?
- austang, on 03/04/2009, -5/+17Why try to repair all the policy damage, just use Windows System Restore!
- quandrum, on 03/04/2009, -2/+14Yeah, who cares about ecosystems if the animals aren't cute.
- hyperjoy, on 03/04/2009, -3/+14Why are other living things on this planet always the enemy of capitalism?
- fxu1989, on 03/04/2009, -0/+10Did you cook it and eat it afterwards?
If so, then no harm done. - maximilen, on 03/03/2009, -45/+54That's all good and well, but why the hell do "environmental studies" for building a simple road take like 10 ***** years?
- bobbi21, on 03/04/2009, -1/+10Man if he could really do all that, that'll be amazing on it's own.
- DaviDTC, on 03/04/2009, -4/+13Didn't know it was nature who flew around in helicopter with rifles to shoot animals. Or nature to build massive structures in places. Nature, such a bitch.
- Shadic, on 03/04/2009, -1/+9Bush's computers? I'm fairly certain they were on ME.
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -1/+8Exactly. Environments change over time, and not necessarily in common-sense, predictable ways that can be modeled; as a consequence, time is needed to chart these changes so as not to upset the ecosystem.
Of course, stating that Obama's reversal of Bush's policies are ". . . all good and well" suggests a cavalier disregard for both the environment and the scientific method in general. - Todynho, on 03/04/2009, -3/+10Extinction is forever
Everyone knew Bushy was gutting every piece of environmental legislation he could get his hands on before heading out the door. Correcting Dubya's legislative malice will take some time. But good on Obama for having the foresight to think things through properly and calmly and not use the economy as an excuse to dismantle decades of important environmental legislative gains. - PixelPusher74, on 03/04/2009, -2/+9Is that the new label for Obama? Populist?
- kelliillek, on 03/04/2009, -1/+8stupider?
- geehawk, on 03/04/2009, -1/+8Yeah, but it's different because he's a patriot. Only republicans love America... Obviously.
God, I can't believe I actually refer to them as republicans... Lincoln must be turning in his grave. - bryantee, on 03/04/2009, -2/+9Shouldn't born humans have priority over unborn? Because stem cell research is aiming to help humans who are alive; who have relationships and emotions, developed nervous systems and families to support.
- Todynho, on 03/04/2009, -0/+7You see, you've discovered the flaw in the fetus-worshiper's ideology. Only a fetus has the right to life. Once born, you can be executed, sent to war, left to die on the side of a road, ill, poor, undernourished and uncared for. No worries.
- mattsouth, on 03/04/2009, -2/+8Damn! Obama is making moves left and right. Props to him.
- megostylez, on 03/04/2009, -1/+7Isn't he already freeloading on conservative american fears?
- Suzilla, on 03/04/2009, -1/+7@maximilen
First, can you be a bit more specific about what you mean by "simple road" (one-lane access road? 6-lane highway?) and, second, can you cite a single instance wherein it actually took 10 years to build such a road? Thanks. - Suzilla, on 03/04/2009, -2/+7@ ReinMasamuri
Same goes for you: can you cite a single instance wherein it actually took 10 years to do the sort of study you and maximilen seem to be referring to? - PhoenixAvatar2, on 03/04/2009, -3/+8Haven't you heard? The White House computers are all still on 2000.
- StarFingHipster, on 03/04/2009, -3/+8How about we re-build what we already have, which is more than enough if we actually used public transportation to its fullest extent.
- Legoman513, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5Funny?
- DakotaCat, on 03/04/2009, -2/+7Go Obama! I knew he was a good choice. :3
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -2/+7"The dodo has been extinct since the mid-to-late 17th century.[1] It is commonly used as the archetype of an extinct species because its extinction occurred during recorded human history, and was directly attributable to human activity." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodo
Seems you can pin its extinction on the human race, after all. - bobbi21, on 03/04/2009, -1/+6I wish. There's more republicans out there than you think (46% of the US population voted for Mccain). Losing to the democrats just makes them angrier anyway to make up for that few percent.
- JesseJ, on 03/04/2009, -2/+610 years of researching if it is ok to ***** up 10 million years of evolution because of a road... Seems ok to me.
- shadowof44, on 03/04/2009, -3/+7oh word. somehow, i seemed to have missed that over time, there were just these niches of creatures being filled, wiped out, refilled again, wiped out again etc etc. it seems plausible that over the course of, what, 900 million years? 99.9% would be wiped out.
but then again to say that nature's gonna kill em anyway doesn't give us reason to do whatever we'd like for the same effect - butterpat, on 03/04/2009, -3/+7From the perspective of the rest of the world, Obama is making all Americans look good again!
- morgens2, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4@christoast
it's not your facts that make you an idiot, it's your failed understanding of the facts that makes you an idiot. - Pstmann, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4
Based on the "rarity brings worth" rule, an endangered species is invaluable. Whereas you (being from an ever expanding and populace species) have very little worth.
Much easier to just get rid of people like you and save what little is left of the natural world, than the other way around. - saisumimen, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4Common sense.
- richid, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3How about the Bald Eagle?
- banderwocky, on 03/04/2009, -2/+5Little by little the damage is being 'repaired'.
- DrDragun, on 03/04/2009, -2/+5Government funding in the biology discipline usually isn't as wasted on mediocrity as it is in other areas. The biology community tends to be self-regulating due to a bunch of huge PhD egos competing for fame and more than eager to tear each others' publications down whether they are funded by the government or universities.
- Todynho, on 03/04/2009, -2/+5Why is it an either/or issue with some people? You have trouble chewing gum and walking at the same time, too?
- gemlarin, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Nah, that could take a lifetime. Wishful thinking.
- bobbi21, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4I always find it funny how ppl always pick the like the worst possible scenarios to defend their points. We've seen socialization in every successful country in the world as well. Seen more of it in the successful developed countries in fact.
