- AlwaysAwake, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1Check out the recent "accident" in France where officials didn't report lethal leakage, until it had seeped into the ground, and then into local rivers, jeopardizing the lives and health of countless citizens.
- AlwaysAwake, on 07/19/2008, -2/+1VERY,VERY dangerous !!!!!
- pharoah724, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Well, electricity is dangerous. Back before we had alternating current (AC) electricity, Thomas Edison put together a propaganda campaign against using AC. He electrocuted dogs to prove that it was dangerous.
Many things that we use are dangerous. We shouldn't let the dangerous tag stop the technological advancement that is necessary. We just need to be careful.
Geez going into space is dangerous, but we still do it.

- Nova437, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3It's naive to beleive that a 1 in a million chance makes these plants dangerous. Nuclear power plants in The United States are very well guarded, especially following September 11th. The federal and state governments have made strict regulatory laws to keep what the author is writing about from happening. This is to say that we're better off without electricity because a few people get electrocuted, better off without homes because they sometimes collapse, better off without boats because they sometimes sink. Obviously the government takes countless measures to ensure that nuclear power stations are safe and secure. Nuclear, Wind, and Solar are the future.

Nuclear power, in terms of production, is among the safest sources of energy when viewed through mortality rates. Engineers fixed the problems that caused Chernobyl long ago. The danger comes from nuclear waste, which must be re-enriched in order to make it suitable for a nuclear weapon (unless you want a dirty bomb). Either way, with proper safeguards, it's perfectly harmless and will degrade in 10,000 years or so. Nuclear power, once past the initial costs of constructive, is very green and relatively cheap. Besides this, nuclear plants can use a blend of weapons grade uranium and non weapons grade, representing a way to effectively use nuclear weapons peacefully.
So author of that article, shut up and do your research better. - Patrikc325, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Visit
