- datagod, on 11/05/2009, -1/+22Actually, that looks like quite a lot of food. The author seems to be filling in a lot of detail that are not exactly evident in the picture. The ice may be melting and there are pictures floating around of bears "stranded" on islands, even though they can swim up to 200km. The article also does not mention that the polar bear population is higher this year than it has been since the 1950's (+25,000 v.s. 5,000).
- Halsfield, on 11/05/2009, -0/+15I'm sure melting polar icecaps are hurting any animals that live in that immediate vicinity, and anyone living along a shoreline globally, but this picture is not evidence of that, and this article is terrible.
Polar bears and their cubs are great swimmers, and with the scarcity of food in the arctic in good or bad times, they are built to trek miles and miles to find food. The article makes it sound like they had one large feast after another before the ice caps started to melt, and that just isnt the case. They have always had to work hard for their meals and of course when a huge meal like this is essentially handed to them there are going to be tons of animals coming from miles and miles around to get a bite. When you have that many animals in a clump there is absolutely going to be aggression and fighting, but that happens everywhere(just look at an African lion pride's kill , even family members squabble over who eats first and gets the best pieces).
Just like that stupid photo of the mother polar bear and her cub sitting on a small floating chunk of ice that was taken by newspapers as evidence of the plight of polar bears in the arctic. In reality it was summer and the ice was supposed to be melting, and the polar bears are used to it and float like corks in the water due to large fat layers and hollow hair. - inactive, on 11/05/2009, -4/+19Here's your daily pile of steaming ***** from "THE SKY IS FALLING !!" crowd.
Why is that a person can take a photo like this, apply a completely fabricated headline...and the sappy liberals buy it hook, line & sinker? This article is 99% false...yet the liberal stooges, who think with their feelings instead of their brains, can't see through it. Just like the photo of the bears playing on a small ice float.....
Looks like America's government/union schools are really taking their tolls on the average American's intellect.
ZERO critical thinking skills....NONE...NADA! - pettdog78, on 11/05/2009, -0/+11It's quite obvious what the solution is... We trap 50% of the polar bears then sell their hides and carcasses for charity....
If we did that we'd double the amount of food for the remaining 50% of Polar Bears!!!
It's called "Conservation".... :D - monodelasno, on 11/05/2009, -1/+10I'm thinking if theres a dead whale carcass to be had, polar bears will be there. This has nothing to do with global warming of the polar ice caps melting, but it does make for great sensational journalism.
Al "The Carbon Billionaire" Gore would be proud. - Bowie, on 11/05/2009, -1/+6
Can we PLEASE get past this whole "OH NOES!!! TEH POOR BAERS!!! TEH POLUR ICE IS MELTANG!!!! THEI POLUR BAERS HAVE NOWHERS TO GO BECUZ OF TEH GLUBAL WAERMING WE CAUZD!!! OMG!!!" ?
Spend like 5 ***** seconds researching them and you'll learn POLAR BEARS SWIM ALL THE TIME. THEY ARE NOT PURELY LAND-BASED ANIMALS. THEY DEPEND ON ICE FLOWS AS A METHOD OF HUNTING SEALS AND SCAVENGING. THEY -LIKE- ICE FLOWS for ***** sake!
READ.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear - Rothbardosaurus, on 11/05/2009, -1/+6THE SCIENCE IS SETTLED LOOK WE HAVE A PICTURE OF BEARS FIGHTING!!! Idiots.
-Only two of the distinct population groups, accounting for about 16.4 percent of the total population, are decreasing.
-Ten populations, approximately 45.4 percent of the total number, are stable.
-Another two populations - about 13.6 percent of the total number of polar bears - are increasing.
-Arctic air temperatures were as high as present temperatures in the 1930s and polar bears survived.
-A Canadian government study found that changing wind patterns are the primary cause of changing sea ice distributions, with any possible "global warming" playing a distantly small role.
There's this crazy thing called the Internet where you can look up facts instead of reacting emotionally to images.
Polar bears eat just about anything living in or near the Arctic Circle. They can swim long distances, roam on land or on ice, and are not limited to only the very coldest latitudes.
Did you think that there's only a few acres of icebergs, and that a polar bear dies every time some ice melts?
What kind of infantile vision of the world do gaia worshippers have? - nambio, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4If the ice is melting then there should be more food since the density of prey per sqkm would be increasing. Silly bears.
- black27696, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Also note that polar bears DON'T NEED THE ***** ARCTIC TO SURVIVE. They go down in to Alaska, including during the summer months. While typically found in cold climates they are like other bears in that they can live in warm conditions as well. For example, the polar bears enjoying the 80 degrees at the San Diego zoo. Their fur thins out, and they enjoy eating carrots for a light snack.
- tgc1, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Funny you mention that. Looks to me like they're plump and healthy. Those of you who have seen an emaciated animal know what it's like to find them starving. They don't look plump and healthy like those bears. Any other ***** they want to tell us today?
Nothing in the freezer? Everybody knows polar bears live off coke-cola. Just like the commercials. It's a documentary right?
/s - doctechnical, on 11/05/2009, -2/+5Go to Alaska, find some polar bears and shoot yourself. The bears will eat you and you won't feel bad about being a human any more. You'll be bear ***** instead.
- inactive, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3"I am feeling ashamed of being a human....."
lmao......of course you do.
(you know, you could off yourself and quit contributing to the bears demise.....I'm just sayin) - rignopolis, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3It's much better for the bears to actually kill their prey rather than have it handed to them on a silver platter. So, just go poke one in the eye and then start running. This will also save them from accidentally ingesting a lead bullet.
- doctechnical, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3People pay good money for polar bear hunts. Anyone know how they taste? I'd love to try a Polar Burger.
- CptBuck, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3Don't polar bears generally eat aquatic animals anyways? Do they reall need Ice Caps? I mean, theres a ***** of land up north...
- asnaturalasgas, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2indeed; a bear does not consider scavenging to be desperate ... in fact I bet if you asked him to define 'desperate', he couldn't
- dfross, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3What precisely links this to "liberals", aside from your own agenda?
Keep raging. - GamerXR72, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3I feel ashamed that your a human too.
- Vaiper, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2I'm going to go ahead and say that polar bears did these before we started killing the ozone. What the hell kind of BS article is this?
- pettdog78, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Well I don't know about Polar Bear meat but some people do eat Grizzly Bear meat. I've never had it myself but I've heard it's a little greasy cause of all the fish the bears eat apparently.
- lbzfoxracingsmp, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1This guy was great ! RIP GEORGE
- ONSP, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I will preempt this thread with George Carlin before it wallows in self human hate:

Go jump off a bridge. You know, to save the cute man-eating bears. - cyberclown, on 11/05/2009, -1/+0Lets see can a polar bear kill and eat people, them we just need to send the FOX news/propaganda crew up there to solve 2 problems at once.
- inactive, on 11/05/2009, -3/+1Dude, you can't be this politically naive. Do you really think there are conservative environmentalist moonbats?
Sure, a lot of conservatives, myself included, are environmentally conscious, but we're not stupid about it. We're smart enough to discern between leftist ***** (Cap & Trade) and taking reasonable steps to keep the environment clean. - swiftsurfere, on 11/05/2009, -12/+4I am feeling ashamed of being a human..... The poor polar bears.................
